vlmc - "In vlmc(traffic.clusters.stationary, cutoff = i) : alphabet with >1-letter strings; trying to abbreviate"
Dear all (copying the package author), I have a question on the vlmc package. I am trying to model a time series, where each element can take one of 11 values (the result of some clustering). When I run the following command (synthetic data to facilitate self-contained example) I get the following warning: ("alphabet with >1-letter strings; trying to abbreviate") +++ START+++ >

Nested PXELINUX configurations
Hello all, I have a boot server (running Debian Lenny x64) with a number of bootable options already configured (freedos, memtest, sysresccd etc). What I am struggling to do now is add Ubuntu and Debian netinst images so that I can boot from the network and have all the boot options available as if I was using a CD-ROM. The problem is that (as far as I can tell) the Ubuntu and Debian

Problems with RJS w/ Lighttpd & Ubuntu
I have my code working on my local machine no problem, but when I upload to the server the RJS effects I have aren''t working. The server is running Ubuntu Dapper w/ lighttpd while on my local machine I''m using webrick. For kicks I shut down lightty and booted my app on the server with webrick and it works fine. So it''s definitely a lightty issue. Anyone else seen

error loading Matrix in Mac OSX 10.4
Hello, I am having trouble loading Matrix (0.96-3) in self-compiled R-2.1.1- beta, and self compiled R.app (got it a couple of days ago via: svn co https://svn.r-project.org/R-packages/trunk/Mac-GUI Mac-GUI ) on Mac OS 10.4.1. The problem I get when I try to load Matrix is the following: (I know I do not need to worry about the warnings, even though it might be nice to know why they

mixed effects models - negative binomial family?
Hello all, I would like to fit a mixed effects model, but my response is of the negative binomial (or overdispersed poisson) family. The only (?) package that looks like it can do this is glmm.ADMB (but it cannot run on Mac OS X - please correct me if I am wrong!) [1] I think that glmmML {glmmML}, lmer {Matrix}, and glmmPQL {MASS} do not provide this "family" (i.e. nbinom, or

problem installing packages with compiled-from-source R.app on Mac OS X - Tiger
Hello all, This may be aimed for r-devel, but I encountered this as an R-user and not an R-developer so I start here (having said that, please direct me to R-devel if you think this is appropriate. I am not cross- posting, as I believe this is bad netiquette). I am a recent, but extremely happy R-user (especially after getting my own copy of MASS 2002). My adventures started when I wanted

Voice "broken" during calls
Hello Luca, We are still playing with visualization of your data, but I didn't want you to wait any longer for some results.  I think I blame both DT and the Pi :) First, a look at the phone side of your Banana Pi.  The first thing we noticed is there were a LOT more packets in one direction (north towards DT) than the other (towards the phone): jeff at

Transferring RailsConf registrations
Has a decision been made about the proper way to transfer RailsConf tickets from one person to another?  I didn''t see anything on the RailsConf site and the wiki just leads to the regular RoR wiki. It turns out a client of mine needs me that week.  I don''t mean to clutter the discussions here with that, but I don''t know of any other forum. Ken -- Kenneth A. Kousen,

Condor and R
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has successfully linked R against the Condor libraries so that R can be run as a Condor job in the "standard" (not "vanilla") universe. The advantage of this would be that due to checkpointing, jobs can be suspended and transferred to another node. There is a good overview by Xianhong Xie here:

eRm: new version 0.9-6
Dear useRs, new and updated features in eRm 0.9-6 for extended Rasch modeling: - infit and outfit mean-square statistics added to functions personfit() and itemfit(). - new method: plotPImap() plots a person-item map (cf. Bond & Fox, 2007), i.e., a map of locations of item (and threshold) parameters, and the distribution of person parameters. - new options in plotGOF(): 'conf':

glmmPQL / "system is computationally singular"
Hi, I'm having trouble with glmmPQL from the MASS package. I'm trying to fit a model with a binary response variable, two fixed and two random variables (nested), with a sample of about 200,000 data points. Unfortunately, I'm getting an error message that is difficult to understand without knowing the internals of the glmmPQL function. > model <- glmmPQL(primed ~

(lme4: lmer) mcmcsamp: Error in if (var(y) == 0)
I've got a problem with "mcmcsamp" used with glmer objects produced with "lmer" from the lme4 package. When calling mcmcsamp, I get the error Error in if (var(y) == 0) { : missing value where TRUE/FALSE needed This does not occur with all models, but I can't find anything wrong with the dataset. If the error is in my data, can someone tell me what I am looking

Response to query re: calculating intraclass correlations
Karl, If you use one of the specialized packages to calculate your ICC, make sure that you know what you're getting. (I haven't checked the packages out myself, so I don't know either.) You might want to read David Futrell's article in the May 1995 issue of Quality Progress where he describes six different ways to calculate ICCs from the same data set, all with different

lme4 install trouble
After upgrading to R 2.6.0, I'm having trouble running lmer: model <- lmer(primed ~ log(dist.time)*role + 1|target.utt, data=data.utts) Error in UseMethod("as.logical") : no applicable method for "as.logical" So I thought I'd upgrade lme4 to the latest version, but unfortunately the compilation fails - perhaps there's a missing #include: R CMD INSTALL
