[libnbd PATCH v2 0/2] opt_list_meta_context
In v2: ack'ed preliminary patches have been pushed, and I've added a
lot of testsuite coverage as well as putting the new API to use in
nbdinfo.

[libnbd PATCH v2 00/13] Adding nbd_set_opt_mode to improve nbdinfo
Well, I'm not quite done (I still want to get nbdinfo to work on a
single nbd connection for all cases when reading the heads of the
file is not required), but I'm happy with patches 1-11, and 12-13
show where I'm headed for getting NBD_OPT_INFO to work. Posting
now to see if some of the earlier patches are ready to commit while
I continue working on the latter half.

[libnbd PATCH v2 0/5] Add knobs for client- vs. server-side validation
In v2:
- now based on my proposal to add LIBNBD_SHUTDOWN_IMMEDIATE
- four flags instead of two: STRICT_FLAGS is new (patch 4),
and STRICT_BOUNDS is separate from STRICT_ZERO_SIZE (patch 5)
- various refactorings for more shared code and less duplication
Eric Blake (5):
api: Add xxx_MASK constant for each Flags type
generator: Refactor filtering of accepted OFlags

[libnbd PATCH 0/3] opt_list_meta_context
I'm posting this now, as I'm at the end of a workday and I got things
working for manual experimentation.
Still to do:
- write interop tests for qemu-nbd and nbdkit (including my proposed
patch addition of qemu-nbd -A to show qemu:allocation-depth)
- figure out if we can make 'nbdinfo --map' use the new API to
automatically select all contexts advertised by the server

[libnbd PATCH v3 0/2] Implementing NBD_OPT_LIST
This is a subset of my v2 posting, but limited to just the
NBD_OPT_LIST handling. The biggest change since v2 is the addition of
added unit testing in all four language bindings (C, python, ocaml,
golang). The tests require nbdkit built from git on PATH, and may not
be entirely idiomatic, but I at least validated that they catch issues
(for example, adding an exit statement near the end of the

[libnbd PATCH] nbdsh: Support -u as synonym for --connect
Typing nbdsh --con (the minimum to get an unambiguous prefix for
--connect, different from --command) is annoying compared to having a
short option. Since it takes a URI as an argument, using -u seems
like a reasonable mnemonic.

[libnbd PATCH] nbdsh: Add -b option to simplify h.block_status
We decided to not request the "base:allocation" context by default (if
a client wants to use block_status on a different context, then they'd
have to get any default request out of the way); however, block status
is useless without at least one meta context. This adds a convenience
knob for requesting that, and has the nice benefit of working with the
--connect command line option

[libnbd PATCH v2 0/3] Improve nbdsh -u handling
v1 was here:
https://listman.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2022-October/030216.html
Since then, I've incorporated changes based on Rich's feedback:
swap order of patches 2 and 3
less change in patch 1 (including no unsafe eval(%s) for --uri)
in patch 2, include -c in list of snippets to store, and use dict of
lambdas to map back to the desired action

[PATCH libnbd PROPOSAL] Add APIs for listing exports from an NBD server.
Proposal for new APIs to list exports. The general shape of the API
can probably best be seen from the examples/list-exports.c example.

[PATCH libnbd] generator: Move first_version fields to a single table.
This doesn't include Eric's new APIs, but if you push those
then I can rebase this one on top.

[libnbd PATCH 0/2] Expose export description
An incremental improvement on top of listing exports. I still think
it's worth experimenting with revisiting how our API for list mode
should actually work [1] (so that we can reuse a single connection for
both grabbing the list and finally using NBD_OPT_GO), but this change
was easier to whip together while still thinking about that.

[libnbd PATCH v2 3/5] api: Add nbd_set_strict_mode
Right now, libnbd has refused to issue a command not advertised as
supported by a server, mainly because the NBD protocol does not
guarantee what the server will do, and libnbd would rather stay in
sync with the server than drop the connection. However, for
integration purposes, it can be handy to coerce libnbd into sending
something to see how the server will react (whether it be an extension

[PATCH libnbd] api: Allow NBD URIs to be restricted.
Previous discussion:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2019-August/msg00102.html
Last night I experimentally added support for URIs that contain the
query parameter tls-psk-file, as part of rewriting the tests to cover
more of the URI code. So you can now have a URI like:
nbds://alice@localhost/?tls-psk-file=keys.psk
However there's an obvious security problem here because now

[nbdkit PATCH 0/4] Spec compliance patches
The first one is the nastiest - it is an assertion failure caused
by a spec-compliant client and introduced by our security fix
that was released in 1.14.1.
Eric Blake (4):
server: Fix regression for NBD_OPT_INFO before NBD_OPT_GO
server: Fix back-to-back SET_META_CONTEXT

[nbdkit PATCH v2 0/8] exportname filter
This is a revision of my .default_export work, plus new work on
.export_descriptions and a new exportname filter. I think it is
now ready to check in.
Things I'd still like in 1.22:
- the file plugin should implement .list_exports (patch already posted,
but it needs rebasing on this series)
- the ext2 filter should override .list_exports when in exportname mode
- the nbd plugin should be

[libnbd PATCH 0/3] Improve type-safety of ocaml/golang getters
Natural fallout after my recent testsuite additions that fixed a
couple of ocaml bugs in the setters. However, on at least the OCaml
code, I'm not sure what we should do if a newer libnbd ever returns a
bit that an older NBD.mli was not expecting at the time the OCaml
compiler ran (see below). I'm also not sure if there is a more
efficient way to avoid outputting Val_FOO() converters for

[PATCH libnbd v4] Add Go language bindings (golang) (RHBZ#1814538).
Now runs a complete set of tests, notably including the AIO test.
File descriptors are passed in and out as plain ints (instead of
*os.File) for a couple of reasons: (1) We have to pass the plain int
to syscall.Select. (2) Turning an fd into an os.File causes golang to
set the blocking flag which is deeply unhelpful.

[libnbd PATCH 1/1] generator: Add support for NBD_INFO_INIT_STATE extension
The NBD protocol is adding an extension for servers to report the
initial state of the image (for now, whether it is sparse and/or reads
as all zeroes). Time to expose this to clients, via the new API
nbd_get_init_flags(). The patch requires refreshing the
nbd-protocol.h file from a corresponding contemporary nbdkit commit.
Testing is possible with recent enough qemu.

[nbdkit PATCH v3 06/14] api: Add .export_description
I'm about to add an 'exportname' filter, and in the process, I noticed
a few shortcomings in our API. Having .default_export makes it easy
to answer NBD_INFO_NAME in response to a client request during
NBD_OPT_GO, but answering NBD_INFO_DESCRIPTION is awkward - there's no
guarantee the export name was given with a description in
.list_exports. Note, however, that while we map

[libnbd PATCH v2 0/3] Improve type-safety of ocaml/golang getters
Well, the golang changes (patch 1 and 2/3 of v1) were already
committed, all that was left was the OCaml changes. I'm a lot happier
with how things turned out with an UNKNOWN constructor in the OCaml
variants.
