nbdkit -c /dev/nbdX option
While I was thinking about what I'd write for my proposed nbdkit talk
at FOSDEM next year, this strikes me as clunky:
rm -f /tmp/sock
nbdkit -U /tmp/sock file foo
nbd-client -u /tmp/sock /dev/nbd0
...
nbd-client -d /dev/nbd0
killall nbdkit
In qemu-nbd, all that is just this:
qemu-nbd -c /dev/nbd0 foo
It seems like it would be nice to implement an ‘nbdkit -c

[nbdkit] Serving "temporary disks" over NBD
(This email is largely me just thinking aloud ... So ideas welcome!)
For the RISC-V builders (http://fedora.riscv.rocks) I'm using an NBD
disk to host the heavily used /var/lib/mock build directory. This is
because the build machines have only SD-cards as local disk and SD is
both slow and unreliable.
The builders (NBD clients) are set up with an /etc/rc.d/rc.local file
which runs these

mkfs.ext2 succeeds despite nbd write errors?
Hi,
So I've been hacking together an nbdkit plugin (similar to the "file"
plugin, but it splits the file up into chunks):
https://github.com/pepaslabs/nbdkit-chunks-plugin
I got it to the point of being a working prototype. Then I threw it
onto a raspberry pi, which it turns out only has a 50/50 shot of
fallocate() working correctly.
I'm checking the return code of

strcmp() leaves errno alone (well, POSIX doesn't guarantee that, but no

[PATCH nbdkit 2/9] floppy, iso, split, ssh: Use new vector type to store lists of strings.
These plugins have in common that they store either a list of
allocated strings or a list of constant strings. Define either
string_vector or const_string_vector as appropriate and use it to
store these lists.

[PATCH nbdkit v2] New tmpdisk plugin.
This can be used for creating temporary disks to thin clients, as a
kind of "remote tmpfs".

[PATCH nbdkit] New tmpdisk plugin.
Unfinished (needs tests). This is my attempt to make a
"remote tmpfs" plugin as outlined in this prior email:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2020-March/msg00134.html
Although it would be possible to construct something a bit like this
using existing plugins and filters (perhaps with some new features in
those filters) I think it may be nicer to have a dedicated plugin for

conditional loop
I am looking up a number based upon a randomly selected number and then
proceed to the rest of my code if the corresponding value is greater than or
equal to yet another value.
so if
Dev_Size = 14
and my randomly selected number is 102
and i am looking up 102 in the following table
100 21
101 4
102 9
103 52
104 29
So i select the the corresponding value of 102, which is 9 and

[PATCH nbdkit 4/4] Add floppy plugin.
Create a virtual FAT-formatted floppy disk from a directory of files.
For example:
nbdkit floppy /path/to/directory
The implementation of this is quite different from nbdkit-iso-plugin
since we cannot use an external program. Instead this plugin
synthesizes the MBR partition and FAT32 structures that are required.
To do: Implement bootable virtual floppy using syslinux. This is not

[PATCH nbdkit v3] New tmpdisk plugin.
v2 was here:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2020-March/msg00154.html
v3:
- Micro-optimize tmpdir.
- Quote $disk in default command shell fragment.
- Don't redirect mkfs output to /dev/null. Instead use
exec </dev/null >/dev/null before the shell fragment.
We may want to do this in other places where we run
external shell scripts, or more generally for all

Calling object outside function
What i thought was a simple process isnt working for me. After i create an
multiple objects in a function (see below), how to i use those objects later
in the program. I tried calling the function again and then the object i
wanted and it worked the first time but now it doesnt( i think i defined the
object outside the function accidently so then it worked but when run
properly it doesnt). I

ANNOUNCE: nbdkit 1.8 - an NBD server toolkit with stable plugin API and permissive license
I’m pleased to announce the next stable release of nbdkit.
NBD — Network Block Device — is a protocol for accessing Block Devices
(hard disks and disk-like things) over a Network. nbdkit is a toolkit
for creating NBD servers.
The key features are:
* Multithreaded NBD server written in C with good performance.
* Minimal dependencies for the basic server.
* Liberal license (BSD) allows nbdkit
