[PATCH nbdkit 5/9 patch split 1/5] Create libnbdkit.so.
This is the previous 5/9 patch posted earlier today, split into
reviewable chunks. This passes bisection with -x 'make && make
check', but I didn't work very hard on the commit messages, so I refer
you back to the original patch to explain how it works:

[PATCH nbdkit 0/9] Port to Windows.
Also available here:
https://github.com/rwmjones/nbdkit/tree/2020-windows-mingw
This is the port to Windows using native Windows APIs (not MSYS or
Cygwin).
This patch series is at the point where it basically now works. I can
run the server with the memory plugin, and access it remotely using
guestfish, creating filesystems and so on without any apparent
problems.
Nevertheless there are many

[PATCH nbdkit 0/13] Port to Windows without using a separate library.
Also available here:
https://github.com/rwmjones/nbdkit/tree/2020-windows-mingw-nolib
After a lot of work I have made the port to Windows work without using
a separate library. Instead, on Windows only, we build an "import
library" (library of stubs) which resolves references to nbdkit_*
functions in the main program and fixes up the plugin, basically the
first technique outlined in

[PATCH EXPERIMENTAL nbdkit 0/2] Port to Windows using mingw.
The patches following do indeed allow you to compile nbdkit.exe, but
it does not actually work yet. I'm posting this experimental series
more as a work in progress and to get feedback.
Note this does not require Windows itself to build or test. You can
cross-compile it using mingw64-* packages on Fedora or Debian, and
test it [spoiler alert: it fails] using Wine.

[nbdkit PATCH 0/4] Start using cleanup macros in filters/plugins
There's more that can be done (in particular, use of CLEANUP_FREE),
but this is enough to at least see if I'm on the right track.
I couldn't figure out an obvious difference between common/include and
common/utils, but it looks like the former is for things that are
inlineable via .h only, while the latter is when you need to link in
a convenience library, so this landed in the

[PATCH nbdkit incomplete 0/5] Port to Windows.
This is an incomplete port to Windows. Currently the server compiles
and starts up successfully, but goes into an infinite loop when you
connect to it. Nevertheless I think the approach is ready for
feedback. This being Windows the changes go quite deep.

[nbdkit PATCH 0/4] More .list_exports uses
Here's changes to the file plugin (which I'm happy with) and a new
exportname filter (which is still at RFC stage; I need to finish
implementing strict mode in .open, and add tests).
I also discovered that we really want .list_exports and .open to know
when they are used on plaintext vs. tls clients for --tls=on, and we
may want to split out a new .default_export callback rather than

[PATCH nbdkit] tar as a filter.
For review only, this needs some clean up and more tests.
My eyes are going cross-eyed looking at the calculate_offset_of_entry
function, so time to take a break ...

[PATCH] [v2] WIP: ddrescue mapfile filter
This allows to overlay bad sectors according to the mapfile generated by
ddrescue, to then see where sectors are used using fsck and trying to
copy files around.

[PATCH nbdkit v3] New tmpdisk plugin.
v2 was here:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2020-March/msg00154.html
v3:
- Micro-optimize tmpdir.
- Quote $disk in default command shell fragment.
- Don't redirect mkfs output to /dev/null. Instead use
exec </dev/null >/dev/null before the shell fragment.
We may want to do this in other places where we run
external shell scripts, or more generally for all

[PATCH libnbd 0/5] interop: Check that LIBNBD_TLS_ALLOW works against nbdkit.
I was a little surprised to find that LIBNBD_TLS_ALLOW worked out of
the box, so I had to examine the logs whereupon I saw the magic
message ...
libnbd: debug: nbd1: nbd_connect_command: server refused TLS (policy), continuing with unencrypted connection
I don't believe this path has ever been tested before.
It's possible the tests could be improved if they actually checked for

[PATCH nbdkit 0/4] server: Add nbdkit_shutdown() call and two new filters.
This adds a new nbdkit_shutdown() API whereby plugins and filters can
request that the server shuts down (asynchronously) during the serving
phase.
Two new filters are added, one of which depends on this feature and
the other not needing it but being somewhat related.

[PATCH 1/3] nbdkit: fix build of the SSH plugin on FreeBSD
From: Alan Somers <asomers@gmail.com>
There was a missing #include. It only worked on Linux due to header
pollution.

[PATCH nbdkit] New tmpdisk plugin.
Unfinished (needs tests). This is my attempt to make a
"remote tmpfs" plugin as outlined in this prior email:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2020-March/msg00134.html
Although it would be possible to construct something a bit like this
using existing plugins and filters (perhaps with some new features in
those filters) I think it may be nicer to have a dedicated plugin for

[PATCH nbdkit INCOMPLETE] New filter: exitwhen: exit gracefully when an event occurs.
This incomplete patch adds a new filter allowing more control over
when nbdkit exits. You can now get nbdkit to exit gracefully on
certain events, such as a file being created, a pipe held open by
another process going away, or when another PID exits. There is also
a script option to allow for completely custom events.
It is untested at the moment, I'm posting it to get feedback on the

[PATCH nbdkit v3 0/4] Add linuxdisk plugin.
For v3 I reimplemented this using mke2fs -d. This obviously makes the
implementation a whole lot simpler, but cannot support multiple
directory merging.
Patches 1-3 are the same as before. I've also reproduced the notes
from v2 below.
v2:
- Fix inconsistent tab/space.
- All 3 plugins now contain a block of text pointing to the
other 2 plugins.
- TMDIR -> TMPDIR
- Unlink the

[PATCH nbdkit v2] New filter: limit: Limit number of clients that can connect.
This is a second version of the limit filter. v1 was posted here:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2020-March/msg00015.html
I didn't bother to repost the other three patches because they are the
same.
The difference is this version of the filter takes security more
seriously. It shouldn't be possible for malicious clients to connect
more than limit=N times to the plugin now,

[PATCH nbdkit v2 0/5] Add linuxdisk plugin.
Another interesting thing you can do with this plugin:
https://rwmj.wordpress.com/2019/02/19/nbdkit-linuxdisk-plugin/
v2:
- Fix inconsistent tab/space.
- All 3 plugins now contain a block of text pointing to the
other 2 plugins.
- TMDIR -> TMPDIR
- Unlink the temporary file and other cleanups along error paths.
- fclose -> pclose, and check the return value for errors.
-
