[PATCH nbdkit 2/2] Add insert function and use the new vector library in several places.
This extends the vector library with an insert function. It is more expensive than appending, but this does not affect existing code using vector and can be used in new places without making those uses more expensive. We use this function in nbdkit-extentlist-filter, nbdkit-eval-plugin and the sparse library. This is refactoring, so should not affect functionality at all. However during the

[nbdkit PATCH 1/2] sh, eval: Cache .can_zero and .can_flush
In commit c306fa93ab and neighbors (v1.15.1), a concerted effort went into caching the results of .can_FOO callbacks, with commit messages demonstrating that a plugin with a slow callback should not have that delay magnified multiple times. But nothing was added to the testsuite at the time, and with the sh and eval plugins, we still have two scenarios where we did not take advantage of the

[nbdkit PATCH 0/2] More caching of initial setup
When I added .can_FOO caching in 1.16, I missed the case that the sh plugin itself was calling .can_flush twice in some situations (in order to default .can_fua). Then right after, I regressed it to call .can_zero twice (in order to default .can_fast_zero). I also missed that .thread_model could use better caching, because at the time, I did not add testsuite coverage. Fix that now. Eric Blake

[nbdkit PATCH v2 5/5] sh, eval: Add .list_exports support
Exposing .list_exports through to shell scripts makes testing export listing a lot more feasible. The design chosen here is amenable to 'ls -1' or 'find' output provided there are no newlines in the files being listed, while also being flexible enough to support a future format addition if we find ourselves needing a way to express escape sequences or parsing machine-readable code

[PATCH nbdkit 8/9] eval, sh: Set $tmpdir before running the command, instead of globally.
The $tmpdir environment variable is used by the eval and sh plugins to communicate the path to the temporary directory created by the plugin for shell scripts to use for temporary files. Previously we set this environment variable globally (in .load()), but this means the environment variable can be leaked into undesirable places, eg. into the --run script: $ nbdkit sh - --run 'echo

[RFC nbdkit PATCH 4/4] sh, eval: Add .list_exports support
Exposing .list_exports through to shell scripts makes testing export listing a lot more feasible. The design chosen here is amenable to 'ls -1' or 'find' output provided there are no newlines or whitespace in the files being listed (the user gives up descriptions in that case), while also being flexible enough to support names or descriptions with arbitrary content. One idea that

[nbdkit PATCH v3 06/14] api: Add .export_description
I'm about to add an 'exportname' filter, and in the process, I noticed a few shortcomings in our API. Having .default_export makes it easy to answer NBD_INFO_NAME in response to a client request during NBD_OPT_GO, but answering NBD_INFO_DESCRIPTION is awkward - there's no guarantee the export name was given with a description in .list_exports. Note, however, that while we map

[PATCH nbdkit 0/5] server: Add .get_ready callback.
I like this change. I think we were overloading the config_complete method before to do two different things (complete configuration; do any allocation/housekeeping necessary before we can start serving). The only questions in my mind are whether we want this before 1.18, and whether the name ("get_ready") is a good one. Rich.

[PATCH nbdkit 1/2] server: Add .after_fork callback, mainly for plugins to create threads.
If you have a plugin which either creates background threads itself or uses a library that creates background threads, it turns out you cannot create these in .get_ready (or earlier). The reason is that nbdkit forks when either daemonizing itself or using the --run option, and fork cancels all the background threads in the child process (the daemonized or captive nbdkit). The only good solution

[PATCH nbdkit 2/2] api: Remove .list_exports from nbdkit 1.22 release.
During the 1.21 development cycle we added support for listing exports. However at the time that 1.22 was released we did not feel the API was sufficiently finalized to commit to in a stable branch. Therefore this new API was removed before 1.22 was released, but the feature continues to be developed upstream and should appear in nbdkit 1.24. Note this also hides the nbdkit*export* functions so

[RFC nbdkit PATCH 0/4] Progress towards .list_exports
This takes Rich's API proposal and starts fleshing it out with enough meat that I was able to test 'nbdkit eval' advertising multiple exports with descriptions paired with 'qemu-nbd --list'. Overriding class_attribute writers and order of super/extend C.M./included block eval in ActiveSupport::Concern
I have: module MySpike extend ActiveSupport::Concern included do class_attribute :foobar, instance_writer: true end end But, I want to be able to override the class attribute writer and/or instance writer method to do something when the attribute is set via self.foobar = true before or after calling super to set the attribute. Unfortunately, I can''t find a clean way

[nbdkit PATCH v2 0/8] exportname filter
This is a revision of my .default_export work, plus new work on .export_descriptions and a new exportname filter. I think it is now ready to check in. Things I'd still like in 1.22: - the file plugin should implement .list_exports (patch already posted, but it needs rebasing on this series) - the ext2 filter should override .list_exports when in exportname mode - the nbd plugin should be

[PATCH nbdkit 0/2] Temporarily remove .list_exports for nbdkit 1.22
If you're following nbdkit development upstream you'll have seen that we are still making changes to the .list_exports and related APIs. The current .list_exports API upstream is not how it will look finally. The latest set of proposals was here: https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2020-August/thread.html#00330 At the same time I'd like to do an nbdkit 1.22 (stable) release.
