[PATCH libnbd] api: Allow NBD URIs to be restricted.
New APIs are added which let you enable or disable features of NBD URIs, mainly for security reasons. tls-psk-file is *disabled* by default for obvious security reasons. All other features are enabled by default. --- generator/generator | 127 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++- lib/handle.c | 26 +++++++++ lib/internal.h | 5 ++ lib/uri.c | 31 +++++++++--

[libnbd PATCH v2 0/5] Add knobs for client- vs. server-side validation
In v2: - now based on my proposal to add LIBNBD_SHUTDOWN_IMMEDIATE - four flags instead of two: STRICT_FLAGS is new (patch 4), and STRICT_BOUNDS is separate from STRICT_ZERO_SIZE (patch 5) - various refactorings for more shared code and less duplication Eric Blake (5): api: Add xxx_MASK constant for each Flags type generator: Refactor filtering of accepted OFlags api: Add

[PATCH libnbd] copy: Allowing copying from NBD server to NBD server.
This patch is a straightforward refactoring of libnbd?s nbdcopy program, and not very interesting. However I have plans for nbdcopy (see full todo below). I would like to use this utility for virt-v2v as a replacement for ?qemu-img convert?. qemu-img has caused us a series of problems: - change in zeroing behaviour caused a big performance regression - qemu-img reads extents up-front which

[libnbd PATCH v2 0/3] Improve nbdsh -u handling
v1 was here: https://listman.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2022-October/030216.html Since then, I've incorporated changes based on Rich's feedback: swap order of patches 2 and 3 less change in patch 1 (including no unsafe eval(%s) for --uri) in patch 2, include -c in list of snippets to store, and use dict of lambdas to map back to the desired action Eric Blake (3): nbdsh:

[PATCH libnbd PROPOSAL] Add APIs for listing exports from an NBD server.
Proposal for new APIs to list exports. The general shape of the API can probably best be seen from the examples/list-exports.c example. Rich.

mkfs.ext2 succeeds despite nbd write errors?
Hi, So I've been hacking together an nbdkit plugin (similar to the "file" plugin, but it splits the file up into chunks): https://github.com/pepaslabs/nbdkit-chunks-plugin I got it to the point of being a working prototype. Then I threw it onto a raspberry pi, which it turns out only has a 50/50 shot of fallocate() working correctly. I'm checking the return code of

[PATCH libnbd 0/9] Add Enum and Flags types.
This largish series adds several new features to the generator. Enum maps to enumerated types (like enum in C). The only current use for this is replacing the nbd_set_tls (nbd, 0/1/2) parameter with LIBNBD_TLS_DISABLE, LIBNBD_TLS_ALLOW, LIBNBD_TLS_REQUIRE (and natural equivalents in other programming languages). Flags maps to any uint32_t bitmask. It is basically a non-optional, generalized

[libnbd PATCH v2 00/13] Adding nbd_set_opt_mode to improve nbdinfo
Well, I'm not quite done (I still want to get nbdinfo to work on a single nbd connection for all cases when reading the heads of the file is not required), but I'm happy with patches 1-11, and 12-13 show where I'm headed for getting NBD_OPT_INFO to work. Posting now to see if some of the earlier patches are ready to commit while I continue working on the latter half. Eric Blake (13):

ANNOUNCE: libnbd 1.2 & nbdkit 1.16 - high performance NBD client and server
I'm pleased to announce the releases of libnbd 1.2 and nbdkit 1.16. These are a high performance Network Block Device (NBD) client library and server. Key features of libnbd: * Synchronous API for ease of use. * Asynchronous API for writing non-blocking, multithreaded clients. You can mix both APIs freely. * High performance. * Minimal dependencies for the basic library. *

[libnbd PATCH v2 1/5] api: Add xxx_MASK constant for each Flags type
Document and make it easier for applications to determine which bitmask values were supported at compile time. Also, generating bitmask values in hex tends to be more legible than in decimal, as it makes it obvious that the values are intended for bitwise operations. And it doesn't hurt that this reduces churn in some of the tests if new bits are added. --- docs/libnbd.pod

[libnbd PATCH 0/3] opt_list_meta_context
I'm posting this now, as I'm at the end of a workday and I got things working for manual experimentation. Still to do: - write interop tests for qemu-nbd and nbdkit (including my proposed patch addition of qemu-nbd -A to show qemu:allocation-depth) - figure out if we can make 'nbdinfo --map' use the new API to automatically select all contexts advertised by the server Eric Blake

[libnbd PATCH 0/2] NBD_OPT_INFO support
This replaces 13/13 of my v2 series; and now that it has pretty good testsuite coverage and demonstrable performance improvement to nbdinfo, I'm going ahead and pushing this now. We may still want to add further nbd_opt_* commands for other fine-grained tuning of negotiation, but for now, I think things have stabilized on this end, and I can return to polishing .list_exports on the nbdkit

Xen reboots on dom-U disk stress...
Hi all I tried to run bonnie++ disk stresser in dom-U, who''s disk is backed with non-local (on nfs) loop-back file. The machine rebooted pretty quickly. So, how do I tell what''s barfing? Is it Xen? Is it dom-0 (nfs or loop-back)? I looked in dom-0''s /var/log/messages and didn''t see any obvious record of a dom-0 whoopsie (but is that the right place to look

[RFC libnbd PATCH 0/2] Add knobs for client- vs. server-side validation
We have been inconsistent on how much we reject client-side without even consulting the server, vs. how much we depend on the server to detect failure (even if our request can be deemed undefined per NBD protocol). I'd like to change it so that by default, we reject as much as we can client-side for less traffic, but where the user can also change things on the fly for server-side integration

[libnbd PATCH v3 0/2] Implementing NBD_OPT_LIST
This is a subset of my v2 posting, but limited to just the NBD_OPT_LIST handling. The biggest change since v2 is the addition of added unit testing in all four language bindings (C, python, ocaml, golang). The tests require nbdkit built from git on PATH, and may not be entirely idiomatic, but I at least validated that they catch issues (for example, adding an exit statement near the end of the

[PATCH nbdkit] tests: Convert some tests to use nbdsh instead of qemu-io.
Very much a work in progress as there are still many tests using qemu-io which are candidates for conversion. You'll notice at the end of test-full.sh that the new test has some duplicated code which looks as if it ought to be refactored into a Python function. When I tried to do that, I got loads of strange Python problems which may indicate bugs in nbdsh itself or problems with my
