[nbdkit PATCH v2 5/5] log: Allow user option of appending to log
Always truncating a log can wipe out useful history. Add an option to change this. [nbdkit PATCH v2 0/5] log appends
v2 turned out to be much more involved, as I ended up fixing several things along the way that I noticed while debugging a feature addition. Eric Blake (5): maint: Improve ./nbdkit option parsing main: Saner newline printing during --help utils: Add nbdkit_parse_bool main: Use new bool parser for --tls log: Allow user option of appending to log docs/nbdkit-plugin.pod | 11

[nbdkit PATCH 0/2] RFC: tweak error handling, add log filter
Here's what I'm currently playing with; I'm not ready to commit anything until I rebase my FUA work on top of this, as I only want to break filter ABI once between releases. Eric Blake (2): backend: Rework internal/filter error return semantics filters: Add log filter TODO | 2 - docs/nbdkit-filter.pod | 84 +++++++-- docs/nbdkit.pod

[nbdkit PATCH 2/2] filters: Add log filter
'nbdkit -v' is quite verbose, and traces everything. Sometimes, we want to trace JUST the client interactions. In particular, when debugging another filter, being able to trace what the filter called can be quite useful; and having the log filter in place will make it easier to add testsuite coverage of other filters. Also, it is nice to have timestamps in the log, in order to see if

[nbdkit PATCH v2 0/3] add log, blocksize filters
Since v1: add the blocksize filter, add testsuite coverage of the log filter, several fixes to the log filter based on what adding tests revealed I'm still working on FUA flag support patches on top of this; the patches should all be committed in the same release, as we want to minimize the number of releases that cause a filter ABI/API bump Eric Blake (3): backend: Rework internal/filter

[nbdkit PATCH v3 00/15] Add FUA support to nbdkit
After more than a month since v2 [1], I've finally got my FUA support series polished. This is all of my outstanding patches, even though some of them were originally posted in separate threads from the original FUA post [2], [3] [1] https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2018-January/msg00113.html [2] https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2018-January/msg00219.html [3]

[PATCH nbdkit 0/5] server: Add .get_ready callback.
I like this change. I think we were overloading the config_complete method before to do two different things (complete configuration; do any allocation/housekeeping necessary before we can start serving). The only questions in my mind are whether we want this before 1.18, and whether the name ("get_ready") is a good one. Rich.

[nbdkit PATCH 0/8] fd leak safety
There's enough here to need a review; some of it probably needs backporting to stable-1.12. This probably breaks tests on Haiku or other platforms that have not been as on-the-ball about atomic CLOEXEC; feel free to report issues that arise, and I'll help come up with workarounds (even if we end up leaving a rare fd leak on less-capable systems). Meanwhile, I'm still working on my

[PATCH nbdkit 0/4] Add fuamode=pass and fuamode=discard
Two hopefully useful additions to the fua filter. The second one is kind of like cache=unsafe in qemu, in that it exchanges correctness for speed. Useful for data which is easily recreated in the event of a crash or for people who like living on the edge and have good backups. Rich.

[nbdkit PATCH 0/3] Content differentiation during --tls=on
Patch 3 still needs tests added, but it is at least working from my simple command line tests. [PATCH nbdkit] tar as a filter.
For review only, this needs some clean up and more tests. My eyes are going cross-eyed looking at the calculate_offset_of_entry function, so time to take a break ... Rich.

[nbdkit PATCH] nozero: Add notrim mode
It may be useful to test whether the client's use of NBD_CMD_FLAG_NO_HOLE makes a difference; do this by adding a mode to --filter=nozero to force a non-trimming zero write. Signed-off-by: Eric Blake <eblake@redhat.com> --- filters/nozero/nbdkit-nozero-filter.pod | 19 +++++++---- filters/nozero/nozero.c | 45 ++++++++++++++++++++----- tests/test-nozero.sh

[PATCH nbdkit 0/4] server: Add nbdkit_shutdown() call and two new filters.
This adds a new nbdkit_shutdown() API whereby plugins and filters can request that the server shuts down (asynchronously) during the serving phase. Two new filters are added, one of which depends on this feature and the other not needing it but being somewhat related. Rich.

[PATCH nbdkit v2] New filter: limit: Limit number of clients that can connect.
This is a second version of the limit filter. v1 was posted here: https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2020-March/msg00015.html I didn't bother to repost the other three patches because they are the same. The difference is this version of the filter takes security more seriously. It shouldn't be possible for malicious clients to connect more than limit=N times to the plugin now,

[nbdkit PATCH 0/3] Add noparallel filter
Being able to programmatically force nbdkit to be less parallel can be useful during testing. I was less sure about patch 3, but if you like it, I'm inclined to instead squash it into patch 1. This patch is written to apply after my NBD_CMD_CACHE work (since I touched the nocache filter); but can be rearranged if we think this series should go in first while that one undergoes any adjustments

[PATCH nbdkit] ddrescue: Miscellaneous fixes.
A few fixes and a possible enhancement to the ddrescue filter. If you think these are all OK, I will squash it into your patch and push it. Rich.

[PATCH nbdkit filters-v2 0/5] Introduce filters.
Rebased filters patch. Requires current git master + the locks / thread model fix (https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2018-January/msg00128.html) So a few changes here since last time: The "introduce filters" and "implement filters" patches are squashed together. I introduced a concept of .prepare and .finalize. These run before and after the data serving phase

[PATCH nbdkit filters-v3 0/7] Introduce filters.
This is still tentative and needs a lot of work, but: - partition filter works, supporting MBR & GPT - prepare and finalize methods fixed - open method can now be changed (allowing readonly flag to be modified) - thread_model can be limited I believe I made most of the changes which were previously suggested in email. I think the only one I didn't was preventing inclusion of both

[PATCH nbdkit] Add readahead filter.
A suggested readahead filter. I've only lightly tested this, but it seems to work fine with qemu-img convert. The commit needs proper tests. Rich.

[nbdkit PATCH v2] Introduce cacheextents filter
This filter caches the last result of the extents() call and offers a nice speed-up for clients that only support req_one=1 in combination with plugins like vddk, which has no overhead for returning information for multiple extents in one call, but that call is very time-consuming. Quick test showed that on a fast connection and a sparsely allocated 16G disk with a OS installed `qemu-img map`
