[PATCH nbdkit v2 0/6] plugins: Implement magic config key.
v1 was here: https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2018-September/msg00024.html v2: - As discussed in the patch review, tighten up the characters permitted in keys. - Update documentation to note that relative paths can be made safe by prefixing with ./ and absolute paths do not need any extra steps. - I pushed patch 1/6 from the v1 series since it was just a trivial

[nbdkit PATCH 0/3] Add noparallel filter
Being able to programmatically force nbdkit to be less parallel can be useful during testing. I was less sure about patch 3, but if you like it, I'm inclined to instead squash it into patch 1. This patch is written to apply after my NBD_CMD_CACHE work (since I touched the nocache filter); but can be rearranged if we think this series should go in first while that one undergoes any adjustments

[nbdkit PATCH v3 00/15] Add FUA support to nbdkit
After more than a month since v2 [1], I've finally got my FUA support series polished. This is all of my outstanding patches, even though some of them were originally posted in separate threads from the original FUA post [2], [3] [1] https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2018-January/msg00113.html [2] https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2018-January/msg00219.html [3]

[PATCH nbdkit 0/4] tests: Move common functions into tests/functions.sh
Combine much common code into tests/functions.sh. Patch 1: Preparation for patch 3. Patch 2: Fix a long-standing bug in how man pages links are generated. Patch 3: Common code for iterating a test function over every plugin. Patch 4: Common code for starting nbdkit in a test and waiting for the PID file to appear. This is the largest and most complex of the patches but is

[PATCH v2 nbdkit 0/5] tests: Move common functions into tests/functions.sh
v1 was here: https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2018-September/msg00057.html v2: - Fix tab vs spaces in configure.ac. - To generate list of plugins, use printf instead of xargs. - Use 'source ./functions.sh' instead of 'source functions'. - functions.sh: Consistent quoting in foreach_plugin function. - functions.sh: Change the contract of start_nbdkit so it

[nbdkit PATCH v2 00/24] implement NBD_CMD_CACHE
Since v1: - rework .can_cache to be tri-state, with default of no advertisement (ripple effect through other patches) - add a lot more patches in order to round out filter support And in the meantime, Rich pushed NBD_CMD_CACHE support into libnbd, so in theory we now have a way to test cache commands through the entire stack. [nbdkit PATCH 0/3] Add nozero filter
I still need to add testsuite coverage. Perhaps it might be easier if I create a new '--filter=log logfile=foo' filter that produces a log of which commands a client sent, then compare the log using a known client that uses write_zeroes (qemu-io works well) both with and without --filter=nozero to prove that the change in advertisement changes the commands sent over the wire (that would

[PATCH nbdkit 0/4] Add fuamode=pass and fuamode=discard
Two hopefully useful additions to the fua filter. The second one is kind of like cache=unsafe in qemu, in that it exchanges correctness for speed. Useful for data which is easily recreated in the event of a crash or for people who like living on the edge and have good backups. Rich.

cross-project patches: Add NBD Fast Zero support
This is a cover letter to a series of patches being proposed in tandem to four different projects: - nbd: Document a new NBD_CMD_FLAG_FAST_ZERO command flag - qemu: Implement the flag for both clients and server - libnbd: Implement the flag for clients - nbdkit: Implement the flag for servers, including the nbd passthrough client If you want to test the patches together, I've pushed a

[nbdkit PATCH 0/9] can_FOO caching, more filter validation
It's easy to use the sh script to demonstrate that nbdkit is inefficiently calling into .get_size, .can_fua, and friends more than necessary. We've also commented on the list in the past that it would be nice to ensure that when filters call into next_ops, they are not violating constraints (as we've have to fix several bugs in the past where we did not have such checking to protect

[nbdkit PATCH 0/2] Avoid oddities with files unaligned to granularity
When using a filter that rounds up to alignment boundaries, the tail bytes of the plugin are difficult to access correctly. Rather than duplicating lots of code already in the truncate filter, it's easier to just make the other filters default to rounding down and add doc links on how to round up instead. [PATCH nbdkit 00/10] FreeBSD support.
With these patches, a majority of tests pass. The notable things which are still broken: - Because FreeBSD links /home -> /usr/home, $(pwd) gives a different result from realpath(2). Therefore some tests which implicitly rely on (eg) a plugin which calls nbdkit_realpath internally and then checking that path against $(pwd) fail. - Shebangs (#!) don't seem to work the same way

[PATCH nbdkit 0/13] Port to Windows without using a separate library.
Also available here: https://github.com/rwmjones/nbdkit/tree/2020-windows-mingw-nolib After a lot of work I have made the port to Windows work without using a separate library. Instead, on Windows only, we build an "import library" (library of stubs) which resolves references to nbdkit_* functions in the main program and fixes up the plugin, basically the first technique outlined in

[nbdkit PATCH 0/2] RFC: tweak error handling, add log filter
Here's what I'm currently playing with; I'm not ready to commit anything until I rebase my FUA work on top of this, as I only want to break filter ABI once between releases. [nbdkit PATCH v2 0/3] add log, blocksize filters
Since v1: add the blocksize filter, add testsuite coverage of the log filter, several fixes to the log filter based on what adding tests revealed I'm still working on FUA flag support patches on top of this; the patches should all be committed in the same release, as we want to minimize the number of releases that cause a filter ABI/API bump Eric Blake (3): backend: Rework internal/filter

[nbdkit PATCH v2 00/13] Add filters + FUA support to nbdkit
A combination of the work that both Rich and I have been doing lately, where filters use only the new API with flags on every command that the client can send over the wire (we can then add support for more flags in nbdkit without having to add new callbacks, as NBD adds more flags upstream). Eric Blake (4): protocol: Split flags from cmd field in requests backend: Pass flags argument through

[PATCH nbdkit v3] New tmpdisk plugin.
v2 was here: https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2020-March/msg00154.html v3: - Micro-optimize tmpdir. - Quote $disk in default command shell fragment. - Don't redirect mkfs output to /dev/null. Instead use exec </dev/null >/dev/null before the shell fragment. We may want to do this in other places where we run external shell scripts, or more generally for all
