Re: libguestfs preview for RHEL 7.4
Just a friendly reminder that RHEL 7.4 preview packages of libguestfs and virt-v2v are available. You should be able to use them on top of either RHEL 7.3 or CentOS 7.3. http://people.redhat.com/~rjones/libguestfs-RHEL-7.4-preview/ Instructions below. ANNOUNCE: libguestfs & virt-v2v RHEL 7.3 preview packages available
If you are running RHEL 7.2 betas or snapshots (or RHEL 7.2 when it comes out next month) then you may be interested in trying out the newer RHEL 7.3 preview versions of: - libguestfs - virt-v2v (Supported since RHEL 7.2) - virt-p2v (Technical Preview in RHEL 7.2, Supported in RHEL 7.3) I intend to release upstream 1.32 towards the end of this year, and rebase libguestfs to that version. Q: how can I request to add an upstream patch to resolve a core dump issue?
UPDATE: It turned out QEMU still dumped core with that patch applied. That said, I'm still interested to know how to report issues with QEMU from centos-virt repo. ANNOUNCE: RHEL 6.4 preview packages available
As some may remember, in the run-up to RHEL 6.3 I made a yum repository available of libguestfs and other packages. It's time for the same thing for RHEL 6.4. These packages should work on RHEL 6.3, CentOS 6.3 and other RHEL 6 derivatives (although I've only tried them on RHEL 6.3). A source RPM is also supplied in case you want to try rebuilding the package. To use the repo, run the

Re: [PATCH] launch: Close file descriptors after fork (RHBZ#1123007).
Hi Richard, I see this patch is included into libguestfs >= 1.26.6 & libguestfs >= 1.27.24. I feel that version is too high. Now RHEL 7.0 runs libguestfs-1.22.6, RHEL 6.6 alpha and 6.5 runs libguestfs-1.20.11. Is that possible to backport this patch, in order to make this problem fixed in RHEL 7.0, 6.6, and 6.5? Libguestfs for RHEL 7.5 preview repository
As in previous years, I'm making an unofficial, unsupported, unsigned yum repository containing a preview of the libguestfs and virt-v2v RHEL 7.5 packages: https://people.redhat.com/~rjones/libguestfs-RHEL-7.5-preview/ PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT RED HAT SUPPORT ABOUT THESE PACKAGES. Does anyone (*ahem* Rich) already have a yum repo with upstream libguestfs rpms for RHEL/CentOS7?
Obviously due to the heavy development, the packages in RHEL7 (even 7.2) lack tons of things. I'm specifically interested in virt-builder and wondering if there's a preview repo that I'm not aware of. ...?

[PATCH] launch: Close file descriptors after fork (RHBZ#1123007).
This refactors existing code to close file descriptors in the recovery process, and also adds code to close file descriptors between the fork() and exec() of QEMU or User-Mode Linux. The reason is to avoid leaking main process file descriptors where the main process (or other libraries in the main process) are not setting O_CLOEXEC at all or not setting it atomically. Python is a particular

libguestfs for RHEL 6.5 preview repository
In RHEL 6.5 we are probably going to rebase libguestfs, febootstrap and virt-v2v. As usual when this happens, I've put up a preview repository: http://oirase.annexia.org/tmp/libguestfs-RHEL-6.5/ If you want to use these packages, the easiest thing to do is to copy the attached file into /etc/yum.repos.d/ and simply install or upgrade libguestfs. If you want to test libguestfs, obviously

Do we need a rebase bug for RHEL 7.4?
Hi Pino, $subject -- do we intend to rebase libguestfs, virt-v2v and virt-p2v in RHEL 7.4? If yes, we should file the rebase bug soon. Pros: - The RHEL 7.3 package has 151 patches on top of 1.32.6. Rebasing would get almost all those patches. Not rebasing would mean (at predicted growth rate) shipping ~300-400 patches. - Backporting patches is currently hard work since the code

libguestfs for RHEL 7.0 preview repository
RHEL 7.0 will ship libguestfs 1.22, supermin (replacing febootstrap) and hivex. Although the RHEL 7 alphas and betas are not public, to help people understand what the libguestfs package will look like I have put up a preview repository: http://oirase.annexia.org/tmp/libguestfs-RHEL-7.0/ This should work on top of RHEL 7 beta, for those able to use that. If you want to use these packages,

C 7 installation annoyances
In the disk partitioner, I can't 1) choose to make the LVM with root and swap be on a RAID 1. Is there some way to do that, rather than two separate partitions RAIDed? 2) They don't align, so I can't clone /dev/sda to /dev/sdb as a failover (for /boot and /boot/efi). I've created those two, manually, and nope, it wiped them out, so I can't clone

RHEL 7.3 preview repository and virt-v2v Windows conversions
First I'd like to remind people that I am publishing RHEL 7.3 preview packages of libguestfs here: https://people.redhat.com/~rjones/libguestfs-RHEL-7.3-preview/ https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2015-September/msg00079.html These can be installed on RHEL 7.2. In the libguestfs-1.32.1-3.el7 package that I have just uploaded, I have enabled *experimental* support for virt-v2v

What is the best way to pass form params between methods in my sign-up controller? The solution I''m using seems too hacky and there''s got to be a something more elegant. Re: Libguestfs Hangs on CentOS 7.4
(1) This made no difference. It still hangs around the same place. (2) It wasn't enabled in the kernel so i enabled it. I then rebooted but unfortunately it made no difference. If you want access to a hypervisor to have a play around, let me know. The only information i really have is that if i installed CentOS 7.3 on this hypervisor it works fine.
