[PATCH] Add support for newstyle NBD protocol (RHBZ#1297100).
Experimental and only very lightly tested so far.

[PATCH nbdkit 0/4] common/protocol: Unify public <nbd-protocol.h>
We should have only one NBD protocol file. Let's make nbdkit's
version the canonical one, and use it in libnbd.

Updated in

Requires tweaks to our handling of nbd magic.

[PATCH nbdkit 2/2] server: Split out NBD protocol code from connections code.
The code handling the NBD protocol was located in the same file as the
code handling connections, for not really any reason except historical.
This is quite a large code movement which splits out the protocol code
into four new files:
server/protocol-handshake.c initial handshake
server/protocol-handshake-newstyle.c " " (newstyle)

[nbdkit PATCH v2 1/2] nbd: Add new nbd forwarding plugin
This is a minimal implementation of an NBD forwarder; it lets us
convert between old and newstyle connections (great if a client
expects one style but the real server only provides the other),
or add TLS safety on top of a server without having to rewrite
that server. Right now, the real server is expected to live
on a named Unix socket with no encryption, and the transactions
are serialized

[PATCH nbdkit 4/4] common/protocol: Install <nbd-protocol.h> as a public header.
Some further small changes are made to allow this header to be used
from arbitrary ISO C compilers.
It can now be used from other projects.

[PATCH nbdkit 0/2] server: Split out NBD protocol code from connections code.
These are a couple of patches in preparation for the Block Status
implementation. While the patches (especially the second one) are
very large they are really just elementary code motion.
Rich.

[nbdkit PATCH 3/4] nbd: Use libnbd 0.1
This conversion should be feature compatible with the standalone nbd
code. Note that the use of libnbd makes the binary for this particular
plugin fall under an LGPLv2+ license rather than BSD; but the source
code in nbd.c remains BSD.
A lot of code simply disappears, now that I'm no longer directly
utilizing the NBD protocol files but relying on libnbd. Coordination

[PATCH libnbd] lib: Copy nbd-protocol.h from nbdkit 1.15.3.
Eventually nbdkit will install this as a public header file and we
will be able to consume it from $includedir. In the mean time
synchronize with the copy in nbdkit.

[libnbd PATCH] api: Add set_handshake_flags for integration
Similar to the recent --mask-handshake command line added to nbdkit to
test client fallbacks to crippled servers, it can be worth testing
server fallbacks to crippled clients. And just as we have exposed
whether the client will request structured replies, we can also expose
whether the client will understand various handshake flags from the
NBD protocol.
Of course, we default to supporting all

[nbdkit PATCH 0/4] Play with libnbd for nbdkit-add
Patch 1 played with an early draft of Rich's Fedora 30 libnbd package:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1713767#c17
Note that comment 21 provides a newer package 0.1.1-1 with a different
API; and that libnbd has more unreleased API changes in the pipeline
(whether that will be called 0.2 or 0.1.2); so we'll have to tweak
things based on what is actually available in distros.

[nbdkit PATCH 6/7] nbd: Implement NBD_OPT_GO client request
The NBD spec was recently patched (nbd.git commit 7827f3ae and friends)
to require NBD_OPT_GO for baseline interoperability, with the aim of
fewer servers and clients falling back to NBD_OPT_EXPORT_NAME. And
since nbdkit as server recently started supporting NBD_OPT_GO (commit
f7dd9799), our nbd client as plugin should take advantage of it.
This patch is a prerequisite to teaching the nbd plugin

[libnbd PATCH] states: Avoid magic number for h->tls
When we moved to an enum instead of raw int for nbd_set_tls(), we
should have also updated our code to prefer the enum values. While at
it, improve the grammar of error messages (confusing since 632196ec,
and copy-and-pasted into more locations since then).

[nbdkit PATCH v2 0/5] Play with libnbd for nbdkit-nbd
libnbd-0.1.2-1 is now available in Fedora 29/30 updates-testing,
although it was not compiled against libxml2 so it lacks uri support
(I ended up testing patch 4 with a self-built libnbd).
Diffs since v1 - rebase to master, bump from libnbd 0.1 to 0.1.2, add
URI support, better timing results
Still not done - patch 5 needs associated tests

[nbdkit PATCH v2 0/2] add nbd plugin
I'm still working on the interleaving (and Rich reminded me on IRC
that we still don't have THREAD_MODEL_PARALLEL working anywhere
yet, anyways). Since nbdkit doesn't really have a parallel plugin
yet, my testing on that front will have to use qemu-nbd as the
original server, as well as qemu-io as the driver (qemu-io's
aio_read and aio_write commands can be used to trigger
