problem with samba 3.0.28/Solaris 8/smbclient
Dear Samba users,
I am trying to update our local samba packages to 3.0.28.
They are built against heimdal-1.0.1 and openldap-2.3.38.
The Redhat Enterprise Linux 3 and 4 packages are working
fine so far in my limited testing. The problem with heimdal
and "net ads join..." has been fixed on all 3 platforms.
On the Solaris 8 server, the "net ads join..." works
correctly and the

[PATCH]: Workaround a security leak on Windows
The attached patch should solve the following problem:
ssh-agent creates a temporary directory under /tmp with '600'
permissions. The actual socket file is created in that dir using
the default umask. That's no problem in U*X systems since nobody
but the owner of the directory can read the socket file.
Unfortunately, Windows has a user privilege called "Bypass traverse

most robust way to call R API functions from a secondary thread
Hi,
As the subject suggests, I am looking for the most robust way to call an (arbitrary) function from the R API from another but the main POSIX thread in a package's code.
I know that, "[c]alling any of the R API from threaded code is ?for experts only? and strongly discouraged. Many functions in the R API modify internal R data structures and might corrupt these data structures if

SIGPIPE in assorted apps after "yum update"
Hello,
I have several systems which I recently updated with
yum -y update
to all the latest packages. These systems use yum-priorities and use
the CentOS (priority 1) EPEL (priority 5) and rpmforge (priority 10)
repositories. After the updates, dhcpd stopped working with a SIGPIPE
error which occurs shortly after it attempts to fork into the
background. I worked around that problem by building

ogg123: close_dsp_on_suspend and next_on_SIGUSR1 patches submission
Hi,
A developper of MandrakeSoft needed for some reason to ameliorate ogg123
in a way: with the patch when you issue a Ctrl+Z (suspending the app) the
dsp is freed. Ofcourse the app can still continue when SIGCONT is
received.
Apparently he chose to separate the actual code into more functions.
Please note that this code uses local functions, it thus needs gcc to
compile.

most robust way to call R API functions from a secondary thread
Stepan,
Andreas gave a lot more thought into what you question in your reply. His question was how you can avoid what you where proposing and have proper threading under safe conditions. Having dealt with this before, I think Andreas' write up is pretty much the most complete analysis I have seen. I'd wait for Luke to chime in as the ultimate authority if he gets to it.

NUT 2.4.1 crashes on FreeBSD - additional info
Hi Volker,
I forward your request to the user list since I don't currently have much
time to process it.
quickly testing 2.4.1, I wasn't able to reproduce it.
a question: was it working with the exact same context/config with 2.2.2?
cheers,
