cvs command failure on 5.2
Another little problem I am now having on CentOS 5.2 that I was not
seeing on FC8:
[mrichter at sushi lane]$ cvs update
poll: protocol failure in circuit setup
cvs [update aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if any)
I could understand if there was something that had changed from FC1 to
CentOS 5.2, but if it works in FC8, why not here?
Here's what's in the CVS

rsh problems in CentOS 5.2 (was "cvs command failure on 5.2")
Okay, I've narrowed the problem down quite a bit. As previously
reported, in CentOS 5.2 I get this:
$ cvs log Makefile
poll: protocol failure in circuit setup
cvs [log aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if any)
Turns out this is a problem with rsh:
$ rsh khan ls

Trying krb4 rsh...

[LLVMdev] Install fails due to missing 'pax' tool
Vladimir,
I believe I've corrected this situation with version 1.299 of
Makefile.rules. It now only uses find and install to do the installation
of the header files. pax isn't used any more. Hopefully this helps you.
Reid.

This is a known issue. We plan to make the makefiles not depend on pax.

[LLVMdev] Install fails due to missing 'pax' tool
Hello,
I've just tries make && make install on a fresh CVS tree, and get:
llvm[0]: Installing include files
/bin/sh: line 1: pax: command not found
Two questions.
1. Why install process requires some nonstandard tool? Is it possible to get
away without it.
2. autoconf/configure.ac has this:
AC_PATH_PROG(PAX, [pax], [pax])
but Makefile.rules uses plain 'pax',

Garbled mails in Maildir storage

from time to time i am having mails delivered to my anon maildrop
which completely break mailbox listing.
I ignored it mostly as this is an anon maildrop for one time emails so
loosing spam wasnt an issue. Today i had a mailbox which wouldnt list at
all which was caused by 50 consecutive mails beeing broken.
(I am showing the last 20 in the web interface)
After some debugging i found a bunch

Parameterised Classes in 2.6.0... still no luck
I downloaded the latest version of puppet 2.6.0 today, and still can''t
get parameterised classes to work. At least, I think it''s 2.6.0... the
version number in the RPM spec file says 0.25.5.
This simple example:
/etc/puppet/manifests/nodes/pax/name01.pax.xxx.com.pp:
node ''name01.pax.xxx.com'' {
class { amodule::afunc: version => "1.0" }

Good catch.
And recursive grep for Rf_lang2 in the Rcpp sources tree suggests

Logging into WIndows 2000 ADS from Linux Clients
Hi everyone,
I want to convert some 50 new machines that an organization is getting into Fedora Linux workstations.
This is the current setup:
The organization currently has one Primary Windows 2000 ADS and 2 numbers of Windows 2000 servers acting as Backup domain servers.
There are currently some 50 workstations already in the network and these are all Windows 2000 professional machines.

samba backup and build
I am replacing my samba 4.1.9 with version 4.1.14. While tarring my
/usr/local/samba in preparation for this I got a number of message about
not being able to backup a socket.
So I switched and used pax to create the tar archive. I got the same
message in addition to the message about not backing up the socket I get
messages like this:
pax: ustar header field is too small for ./var/locks/sysvol/

Strange Fedora Booting problem: can not mount "LABEL=*" partitions
Hi,
Just got Fedora FC1 vanilla 2.4.25kernel+libata8patch booting problems, FC1 complains that it can not automatically find&found partitions specified with "LABEL=" in /etc/fstab, and then falls me into repair mode. In the repair mode I can mount it manually without any problems. More interesting are: 1) I have several partitions specified with "LABEL=*" in

Moved samba doesn't work
Moved samba (acting as a standalone system) from a RH9 system to a FC1
system. It wont authenticate the users. Here is more of the specifics:
1. Users log into a Samba PDC.
2. Login scripts setup their mappings
3. Some mappings are on the PDC (these still work)
4. Some mappings are on the standalone server.
5. The version of samba on RH9 is 2.2.7
6. The version of samba on FC1 is 3.0.4

Mac OS X installer: missing files fix
I've paraphrased the OS X installer developer's comments: there's a bug in
Installer that is preventing the archive from working right. Below is the
fix for the problem.
First (obviously) run the installer. Since the executables are in the
archive.pax.gz file in the installer package, first do a "show package
contents" on the package file, then unstuff the enclosed

The call should be protected before evaluation though. So more like:

Problems to compile examples of RInside
Hello,
I have some problems to migrate to R >3.0 my devel machine (R.2.15.2). So I decided to start from scratch with a brand new virtual machine.
Downloaded latest network install of debian testing, not stable (jessie/sid, SMP Debian 3.16.3-2 (2014-09-20) x86_64 GNU/Linux) installed only with ssh-server and basic utilities (no X).
Then I installed R by:
