Ubunty Feisty (!) Install on CentOS 5 Xen
What is it with the names (and the baby-poo backgrounds) these Ubuntu people use? Anyhow .. has anybody managed to install Feisty as a Xen guest on a CentOS 5 box? And .. if so .. how? -- Graham Jenkins +61 3 9925 4909 Victorian Partnership for Advanced Computing http://www.vpac.org/ PO Box 201, Carlton South, Vic. 3053, Australia

Backing Up A Xen Guest
Here's the problem. We perform full tar backups of our CentOS 4/5 machines in real-time at regular intervals. And when a disaster happens, we are able to restore those backups onto virgin filesystems, make the /dev/null, /dev/zero and /dev/console devices .. and boot the machine. This has worked well on standalone systems, and also on Xen 3.0.3 guests on CentOS 4.4 machines, where each guest

CentOS 5 Xen Files Left in /var/lib/xen ..
I have a machine with four guests on it, and it seems to create and leave lots of files with names like vmlinuz.LqKA3h and initrd.kolvQu in directory /var/lib/xen. The remain there even when all guests are gracefully shut down .. and additional ones get created when they are next started. The end result, of course, is that the root file system fills up. So .. how can I prevent this from

Trying to install CentOS 4.4 as a domU
Hi all, Few days ago I installed a CentOS 5 domU on a xen-box with CentOS 5 dom0 also. All worked fine; I used virt-install assistant and I created a local http repo for increase the process speed. I've tried to do the same with CentOS 4.4 domU, but always I get an error relationated with unavailable HTTP resource. It's curious... so I downloaded the x86_64 complete DVDs for 5 and

logwatch reports not benig emailed
Hello, I have a couple of CentOS 5 servers, and third running in a FC6 domU. I've configured postfix on those servers to not deliver any email to the local system, but to instead relay mail to an internal mail server. I also set up /etc/aliases to send all mail to root to me, ksandhu. I can send mail on the command line, and I get it at my email address, delivered to the internal mail

[OT] External RAID storage / NAS
Hello List, I need storage for my home network - lots of storage. It's going to hold pictures, home movies, music, other bits of data, etc. I'm looking to start at about 500 GB, but I'd need to eventually grow that to 1 TB, or more. I also want something that is quiet, has hot swappable drives (not necessary, but a plus), is fairly easy to manage, and can be directly attached to

Default printer environment variable
Hello All, I'm trying to get the iSeries Access for Linux client (IBM 5250 emulator) working on a CentOS 4.4 system. The client is mostly working - it connects to the remote AS/400, the custom keymap I created is recognized, etc. The only problem is printing to a local printer. The docs for the client state that it reads the default printer environment variable to figure out which printer

CentOS 4.4 not seeing all RAM
Hi Everyone, My server is only seeing 4.8 GB out of 6 GB available. I don't know why. I have a CentOS 4.4 x86_64 server running on a Tyan s2895 with 6 GB of RAM (two 1 GB sticks and 2 2 GB sticks). I upgraded the RAM, powered up the server, and when CentOS was finished booting, checked the available RAM with free. This is what it's reporting: total used

Saving Gnome Sessions in CentOS 5.0 x86
OS: CentOS 5.0 x86. I am not sure it is a bug or something, however regarding saving Gnome Sessions, under Session Options, even if we select "Ask on logout", it doesn't ask. Any work arounds?

CentOS 5 x86: Missing features
Hi, I am surprised how some features are missing from CentOS 5. So far, I found missing: 1) GNOME Session does not prompt for saving on log out. 2) There isn't a "Run" option in the GNOME menus for running programs.

Raw print queues in CentOS 4.4
Hi All, I have a raw print queue configured in CentOS 4.4 for a printer connected to a Windows PC. The printer doesn't have a Linux driver of any sort, so this was the only way to print to it. The printer is an Okidata dot matrix printer. Users can print to it from a console application, but if they try printing to it from OOo Writer, the printer spits out reams of pages with what looks

Upgrade of dovecot broke imap (CentOS 4.5)
I just did a yum update and one of the packages updated was dovecot. I've been using this for imap/pop3 for quite a while. Now, however, I get an error when trying to login under any account. It gives "bad user or password" errors for every user. The user can ssh in just fine and run mutt or pine. But trying to get in with evolution, or even squirrelmail, just gives me an

Postfix won't relay after update to CentOS 4.4
Hi Everyone, My CentOS 4.4 mail server is having problems sending mail after updating it to 4.4 Before the update, I did not have any problems. My ISP requires that email clients must authenticate to their mail servers before mail can be sent out. I setup smtp auth to get postfix to relay mail through the ISP's mail servers. Here's my config: main.cf -------- relayhost =

Dovecot and IPA
Hello, I'm trying to get Dovecot to use GSSAPI for authentication. I have an IPA server on CentOS 7 with a bunch of my servers attached to the IPA domain, including the server running Dovecot. I've followed official documentation from Red Hat and read numerous wiki articles on how to configure Dovecot to get it to use GSSAPI correctly. I don't think I've done anything

Adaptec 2230SLP not detected
[I originally sent this using the wrong email address - apologies if it appears twice] Hello Everyone, Has anyone tried installing CentOS 4 x86_64 on a machine with an Adaptec 2230SLP card? I've just tried it, and Anaconda could not detect the card. I've manually loaded the aacraid driver, which then starts the install process. But, when the install gets to disk partitioning, the

Oracle java RPM
Hi Everyone, Years ago the recommended way to install Sun's java was to install from the tar.gz file because the RPM they supplied did some bad things (clobbered other files or something...can't remember the details). Is this still the case with Oracle's java RPM, or is it now safe to install? Ranbir -- Kanwar R.S. Sandhu

CentOS 6 x86_64 DVD doesn't boot
Hi Everyone, I downloaded the CentOS 6 x86_64 DVD ISOs and burned the first image to a rewritable DVD. When I tried to boot my new home server off it, it didn't, and then this was printed to the screen: ETCDisolinux: Found something at drive = EF No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found! boot: The same disc works fine in my 4 year old HP laptop, and when installing CentOS 6 as a KVM.

nut rpms for CenOS 4
Hello Everyone, Does anyone know where to grab RPMs for nut? Or, at the very least, a spec file that could be used to build a new one for CentOS 4? I'd much rather use apcupsd, but the UPS in question is only supported via nut.
