[PATCH] drm/virtio: rework batching
Drop the virtio_gpu_{disable,enable}_notify(). Add a new virtio_gpu_notify() call instead, which must be called whenever the driver wants make sure the host is notified needed. Drop notification from command submission. Add virtio_gpu_notify() calls everywhere instead. This results in more batching because we now notify only once for a series of commands. We already had that for page flips,

[PATCH v3 1/4] drm/virtio: rework notification for better batching
Drop the virtio_gpu_{disable,enable}_notify(). Add a new virtio_gpu_notify() call instead, which must be called whenever the driver wants make sure the host is notified needed. Drop automatic notification from command submission. Add virtio_gpu_notify() calls after each command query instead. This allows more fine-grained control over host notification and can move around the notify calls in

[PATCH v3 3/4] drm/virtio: batch resource creation
Move virtio_gpu_notify() to higher-level functions for virtio_gpu_cmd_create_resource(), virtio_gpu_cmd_resource_create_3d() and virtio_gpu_cmd_resource_attach_backing(). virtio_gpu_object_create() will batch commands and notify only once when creating a resource. [PATCH 2/3] virtio-gpu: batch display update commands.
When the driver submits multiple commands in a row it makes sense to notify the host only after submitting the last one, so the host can process them all at once, with a single vmexit. Add functions to enable/disable notifications to allow that. Use the new functions for primary plane updates. [PATCH v4] drm/virtio: add drm_driver.release callback.
Split virtio_gpu_deinit(), move the drm shutdown and release to virtio_gpu_release(). Drop vqs_ready variable, instead use drm_dev_{enter,exit,unplug} to avoid touching hardware after device removal. Tidy up here and there. v4: add changelog. v3: use drm_dev_*(). Signed-off-by: Gerd Hoffmann <kraxel at redhat.com> --- drivers/gpu/drm/virtio/virtgpu_drv.h | 3 ++-

[PATCH] drm/virtio: Add option to disable KMS support
From: Rob Clark <robdclark at chromium.org> Add a build option to disable modesetting support. This is useful in cases where the guest only needs to use the GPU in a headless mode, or (such as in the CrOS usage) window surfaces are proxied to a host compositor. [PATCH] Add virtio gpu driver.
From: Dave Airlie <airlied at gmail.com> This patch adds a kms driver for the virtio gpu. The xorg modesetting driver can handle the device just fine, the framebuffer for fbcon is there too. Qemu patches for the host side are under review currently. The pci version of the device comes in two variants: with and without vga compatibility. The former has a extra memory bar for the vga

[PATCH] drm/virtio: Add window server support
This is to allow clients running within VMs to be able to communicate with a compositor in the host. Clients will use the communication protocol that the compositor supports, and virtio-gpu will assist with making buffers available in both sides, and copying content as needed. It is expected that a service in the guest will act as a proxy, interacting with virtio-gpu to support unmodified

[PATCH v6 11/18] drm/virtio: switch from ttm to gem shmem helpers
virtio-gpu basically needs a sg_table for the bo, to tell the host where the backing pages for the object are. So the gem shmem helpers are a perfect fit. Some drm_gem_object_funcs need thin wrappers to update the host state, but otherwise the helpers handle everything just fine. Once the fencing was sorted the switch was surprisingly easy and for the most part just removing the ttm code. v4:
