Adobe Reader 7.0.8 on x86_64 system
Hi Everyone,
[yes, this is about a proprietary product, but I'm just asking for some
tips/pointers]
Has anyone tried installing the new Adobe Reader (7.0.8) RPM from Adobe
on a CentOS 4.3 x86_64 box? I just attempted an upgrade from
AdobeReader_enu-7.0.1-1 (also RPM install), and I'm getting this error:
error: Failed dependencies:

Crash of latticeExtra graph with Adobe Acro Pro/Reader/Windows/ during print only (display ok).
I created a report with Sweave today, that displayed perfectly on screen,
but crashed both Adobe Pro 9.3.1 and Adobe Reader 9.0 on Windows 7. Output
with Foxit Reader was flawless.
I was able to reproduce a "minimal" example, which is not really minimal but
the smallest I could get after 2 hours of wasting paper.

"fixme" items for Adobe Acrobat Reader under wine
.
Installing Pagemaker under wine also resulted in Adobe Acrobat Reader
5. being installed ... and it seemed to work fine until I installed
"libwine" in order to try to fix the problem that I could not print
from any win-application. Now, when I run Acrobat, I get the following
series of "fixme" messages:

adobe reader 8.x can't decrypt using online authentication
justin at methuselah:~$ wine --version
wine-1.0.1
justin at methuselah:~$ uname -a
Linux methuselah 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 21:57:00 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux
I use Adobe Acrobat Reader version 8.1.1. It can open files that don't require decryption online. I, however, have to connect to an external server to validate my unique user name and password for the pdf files I must read.

Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.3 - slightly OT
I've noticed recently that the latest version of Adobe's Acrobat
Reader (9.3) has a really annoying tendency to stop for 30-60 seconds
shortly after it starts up to read/display a PDF file. I don't see
this on my Windows copies, just on CentOS.
Anyone know what's up with that?
Thanks.

New Adobe Reader works on CentOS-4.x, speech synthesis reader & more.
Just and FYI.
In RPM form, works on 4.x and I will try on 5.x too. Speech is tacky,
but if I can get something but the Gnome Festival synthesizer, maybe it
will improve?

Acrobat Reader 9 on Centos 4.7
Hello,
Anyone know how to get Acrobat 9 running* on Centos 4.7?
Looks like a libc conflict:
/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/bin/acroread: error while loading shared \
libraries: /apps/Adobe/Reader9_libs/libstdc++.so.6: requires glibc 2.5 or later dynamic linker
Thanks

Acrobat Reader won't start from a applications
I have installed a software working fine with WINE (some special financial software from my company I work for) but I can't get Acrobat Reader to launch, when I try to open a pdf File from that application. Acrobat is installed.
On the console I get this message:
Code:
fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00000100
Same when I try that:
Code:

Acrobat Reader broken on CentOS 4.3
I have had Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0.1 installed on my CentOS 4.2 desktop
and it worked fine. After upgrading to 4.3, I can't get it to come up
anymore. I downloaded Acrobat Reader 7.0.5 and it does the same. I'd
appreciate any suggestions on what to look for, since the executable and
the startup scripts are not giving me any useful errors to chase.

OT: permission denied when opening PDF docs with Acrobat Reader X potected mode
Hi,
this might be off topic because it's not a samba problem, but might be
interesting for others too. We are running an older samba 3.0.24 working
as domain controller (no DFS features). When opening a .pdf file with
the Acrobat Reader X from a WinXP SP3 client (maschine is member of the
domain) the Acrobat Reader X shows a "permission denied". We see the

open 2nd pdf on dfs share with Acrobat Reader not possible
Hello everybody,
after updating samba from Version 4.9.1 to 4.10.4 (Centos 7)
opening a PDF Document in Acrobat Reader with a double click,
when the document resides on a dfs share, is only possible for the 1st
document.
I know, this is not not a samba bug, because windows 2019 Server behaves
the same, i just want to share my findings.

Font permissions with X11-adobe
Hi All,
We're trying to get R with the standard gui loaded onto CentOS 4, and
under certain users R will not render certain graphics. When logged in
as root the graphics render, but under the restricted user they don't.
The graphics don't render with the error:

Acrobat Reader version for CentOS 3?
Having had a working version of Acrobat Reader, I upgraded to 7.0.5 a
couple of days ago (without backing up the previous install, of course).
Unfortunately, the acroread command fails with:
GTK+ UI Toolkit libraries, ver. 2.4 or greater were not found.
The (CentOS 3) standard libraries for gtk+ etc. are installed.
Anyone know what is the most recent compatible version of Acrobat Reader

acrobat reader for x86_64?
Adobe doesn't seem to have acroread for x86_64 linux, or at least I don't
see it anywhere.
Anybody know otherwise?
Evince and other tools work pretty well, but I have always liked having
the "real thing" around for those occasions when they don't.

PDF Reader/Editor for CentOS 5.7 (32 bit)?
I had, in the past, a .pdf reader that also permitted me to fill in
some information, when I received a .pdf file.
I have KPDF installed, but that seems to only have Reader capability.
Trying to install xpdf, with yum, I get this dependency error from rpmforge:
1:xpdf-3.02-8.el5.rf.i386 from rpmforge has depsolving problems
--> Missing Dependency: libXm.so.4 is needed by package
