Ham Radio s/w and CentOS? {including Echolink}
I am going to present Linux to my ham radio club at some point in the next few
months, and wanted to collect info on ham radio software, including options for
echolink. Our repeater has an echolink connection, thus if I present the
software available for it, it might perk up people's interests more.
It would also be very helpful if the echlink applications offered
proxy/firewall options

wine 1.1.4 and 2nd soundcard (alsa)
Moin,
I am using a kind of VoIP Software (Echolink) that run perfekt with the build
in soundcard. But I want to use my headset, that appears as soundcard 1
(hw:1.0).
I can choose the soundcard in Echolink (default, external and system default),
but this goes to the build in card independent from this setting.
Can I configure wine to use the 2nd card? Or can I configure wine to use the

My Computer
Hello,
I have a HP Pavilion p2 1033wb. I has a 3 core Vision AMD E-300 Processor Dual Core runs at 3.2 GHZ. CentOS will run ok with this processor won't it Echolink told me I would have no problem running there program with it. Probably a dumb question but just checking.
Thanks,

I've upgraded from Mandrake 10.0 to 10.1 CE, which meant moving from wine 20040213 to 20040813.
It sorta runs ,
I have the C drive pointed to the win directory off my home dir thats used by win4lin, I know it can
see this as the fonts are OK.
I can only get regedit and notepad to run from the menubar, plus the old problem of not finding c:\

Re: FRS and GMRS via *
You don't need to reinvent anything to tie radios to *. Ham systems like
IRLP, Echolink, eqso etc all have fairly tight controls to keep from
being abused (although with a little Linux knowledge, the IRLP package
can easily be used to set up your own network using their protocol). Jim
Dixon seems to have done the work to integrate radios with * already.

Trouble running 'alsamixer' as normal user on headless box with minimal system
Hi,
I just transformed an old Pentium III 500 into a headless jukebox. It's
installed in the basement, near the stereo. There's only a base CentOS
system on it (GNOME unchecked, package customization checked and then
everything unchecked). From there on, I just installed the ALSA utils,
and vorbis-tools. The machine is only supposed to do one thing (and to

alsamixer and multiple audio cards
When I run kmix, there is a drop-down box in the upper right corner
that lets me choose the audio device that kmix will be adjusting. If,
however, I try to use alsamixer instead of kmix, there is only one
(default) device that I can adjust. How can I tell to alsamixer that I
want to adjust the volume of another card?
And yes, this is related to my system-config-soundcard question... :-)
Best,

If it helps : my soundcard is a ES1988 Allegro-1, the module is "maestro3".
I use kmix as mixer, but there is nothing in it about a

Correctly setting up sound with Intel High Definition ICH7
Hi,
Earlier this day I started a thread about Skype not working with
outgoing sound. Now I wonder if it's not a problem with my soundcard. I
had a vague suspicion about this, but since it's way off the original
topic, I decided to start a new thread about this.
Here's what the soundcard looks like:
[root at grossebertha etc]# lspci | grep -i audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel

multiple files with same attributes
I''m almost afraid to ask because this probably sticks out
like a sore thumb on the wiki somewhere, and I''m just not
seeing it.
But I have a bunch of files with the same owner/mode. Is
there a way to somehow collapse these, so that all I repeat
is the file name?
Example:
file {
"/opt/test/1":
owner => "jtan",

USB SoundCard no longer recognized in 1.3.25
I just upgraded to wine-1.3.25 from the PPA repository and my USB soundcard is no longer recognized.
(I have pulseaudio disabled, and the USB set as my "default" card.)
I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
The program's message says
"The audio input device is not responding."
and
"The sound system does not support the requested waveform audio format."
But alsamixer

Wine release 20040716
This is release 20040716 of Wine, a free implementation of Windows on
Unix. This is still a developers only release. There are many bugs
and unimplemented features. Most applications still do not work
correctly.
WHAT'S NEW with Wine-20040716: (see ChangeLog for details)
- Implementation of the Microsoft Installer dll.
- Beginnings of proper inter-process window repaints.

How to upgrade?
Hi Wine-users!
I currently run wine 20040716, but it can't run any of my applications
(namely Macromedia Studio MX) So I want to try the latest version.
I have compiled 20040716 from .tar.gz format. I would like to do the same
with the newer version. My question is what is the procedure to completely
uninstall Wine and do a fresh install, WITHOUT uninstalling the Macromedia
apps?
Thank you
