C7 + UEFI + GPT + RAID1
Hi list, I'm new with UEFI and GPT. For several years I've used MBR partition table. I've installed my system on software raid1 (mdadm) using md0(sda1,sdb1) for swap, md1(sda2, sdb2) for /, md2 (sda3,sdb3) for /home. From several how-to concerning raid1 installation, I must put each partition on a different md devices. I've asked times ago if it's more correct create the

Localboot option in syslinux and extlinux
I just tried to boot extlinux off of /dev/sdb and use the option localboot 0x80. I was hoping to see syslinux for the second time as the system loaded the master boot rec from /dev/sda. Why is this option only in pxelinux and isolinux? Nicholas A. Schembri State College PA USA

Syslinux 5.00 - Doesn't boot my system / Not passing the kernel options to the kernel?
Hi, I encounter a problem with Syslinux 5.00 I cannot really describe. So I created two small videos: Booting with Syslinux 5.00 (1.3 MB): <https://www.dropbox.com/s/b6g8cdf2t9v48c6/boot-syslinux5-fail.mp4> How I fixed the problem by downgrading to Syslinux 4.06 and how booting should look like (6.5 MB): <https://www.dropbox.com/s/lt7cpgfm0qvqtba/boot-syslinux5-how-i-fixed-it.mp4>

CentOS 7 grub.cfg missing on new install
Greetings - The short story is that got my new install completed with the partitioning I wanted and using software raid, but after a reboot I ended up with a grub prompt, and do not appear to have a grub.cfg file. So here is a little history of how I got here, because I know in order for anyone to help me they would subsequently ask for this information. So this post is a little long, but

extlinux troubles....
Fine, I will do it all again and use some tool like 'script' to log every single byte, but it'll be a few days before I can email that to you since it takes overnight to zero out the drive to ensure no old data will interfere, and copying the data from the old drive to the new one is also rather slow. For the record, I did RTFM. It has no complete examples for _ANY_ use case, and you

extlinux reports "./extlinux: path /media/disk doesn't match device /dev/sda4"
Hello list, in a previous post I mentioned I had managed to make USB-Stick with 2048 byte sectors bootable. In fact I wiped out my Linux partitions bootrecord. This was with an old version of extlinux as still distributed by openSuSE. Interestingly enough the current version syslinux-3.61-pre2, spares my hard disk, but still seems to live under the impression it is the USB stick. The setup is

Hiding partitions at boot time
Hi, My problem is I have a particular system which has Linux (LFS) and Windows XP on one drive and Windows 10 on a second drive. I use extlinux to boot my systems and all three systems boot as expected, however in use I have found unsatisfactory interactions between the Windows XP and the Windows 10 systems. My question is: Is it possible on booting one of the Windows systems to hide

I encountered a problem when I wanted to install extlinux with guestfish as a bootloader for my guests and I always get this error: SYSLINUX 4.05 EDD 0x54f93f16 Copyright (C) 1994-2010 H. Thank you for the quick response. > Strange way to do this, as libguestfs can do all this. Sorry to ask this (I'm a newly graduated engineer and I new to the virtualization world), but how can libguestfs do all of the above?, do you mean it can create all the partitions inside a new lvm volume or a new raw image?? > Did you copy the syslinux.cfg file into the guest? EXTLINUX: Reading the extlinux.conf but can't find Kernel
Hi Folks, OK - I'm not entirely new to Linux but I'm certainly not great on the boot process. What I'm trying to achieve is to boot from an external USB HDD (not flash drive) using EXTLINUX. I've run an installation against the disk using a VM. The disk was partitioned as follows: /dev/sda1 = /boot (bootable) /dev/sda2 =/swap /dev/sda3=/ (i.e. root) /dev/sda4=/dos sda1 and 3
