garbage on serial console after pxelinux.0 is loaded
A little more info: I was mistaken in saying that the garbage on the screen doesn't interfere with typed commands/stanzas; it does. If I can type the name of a stanza and hit enter quickly enough before the garbage is spat to the screen, it seems to start loading a kernel, but then it aborts. And the garbage appears to be varying quantities of '[0n', as in sometimes there will be one

SYSLINUX-3.52-pre5: XP BOOTSEC.BIN Bug
I just encountered my only bug w/ the ISOLINUX+VESAMENU combination from 3.52-pre5. Updated a *working* CD project w/ the new ISOLINUX+VESAMENU combo just last week. Booting my preferred Linux distro (Slax-6) from my custom CDs work perfectly, however when I updated a CD project that includes BartPE/WinPE, BartPE fails to boot w/ 'CDBoot can not boot CD: error 4" msg. For the

Problems using pxechn.c32
Hi, I have more than one pxe server in my network and I need to chain from one to the other. I used to do that with pxechain.com from old versions of syslinux. With the new version (6.02) I'm trying to achieve this with pxechn.c32. I copied the files ldlinux.c32, libcom32.c32, libutil.c32, pxechn.c32, pxelinux.0 and vesamenu.c32 to the tftp's root in both servers and add this in the menu:

best practice for managing multiple stanzas within a config file?
What is the best way to manage multiple stanza within a config file? For a splunk configuration file (inputs.conf) I need to manage some thing like [monitor://var/log] blacklist = someRegularExpression whitelist = someOtherRegularExpression [monitor://var/lib/ourApp] There can be multiple monitor stanzas and each may or may not have a whitelist or blacklist. I haven''t found any

Chainloading / Nested PXELINUX [SOLVED]
I was able to solve the problem with the following configuration: label custom1 MENU custom1 kernel pxechain.com append ::custom1/pxelinux.0 label custom2 MENU custom2 kernel pxechain.com append ::custom2/pxelinux.0 configdir1/pxelinux.cfg/default configdir2/pxelinux.cfg/default Then I dropped the custom pxelinux.0 files in their respective directories, confgdir1 and configdir2. Matching username in ssh_config
Hi all openssh devs out there. I have quite a few Host-stanzas in my .ssh/config to keep track of all the different settings and credentials needed to access all different hosts I connect to. Now I have ran in to a problem where I need to switch settings based on what user I'm trying to login to a host as. A simple case is: ssh -i rootkey root at host123 vs. ssh -i userkey username at

Pre-routing manipulation of calls
This is concerning an Asterisk 1.4.18 server. We have approximately 70 DID numbers. Incoming calls are placed into the "incoming" context (by zapata.conf) and are routed based on the dialed number. I want to do some manipulation (CallerID name override) to all incoming calls before they are routed. I would prefer to avoid duplicating the necessary code in each DID extension stanza,

trouble w/ Foreman as ENC, agents and environments
Hi, I have a Puppet Enterprise (2.0) puppetmaster running with Foreman, and having trouble getting it working as an External Node Classifier. In short, if I manually add a test client into site.pp, it will retrieve the proper catalog / classes, but I would like to avoid having to do that. I''m also using environments (production/testing/ development) as well, but think I have most of

syslinux 4.02 hangs at "boot:"
Hi all, I have a machine that won't boot syslinux 4.02 but will boot syslinux 3.53. We've installed syslinux 4.02 on a number of machines but only this one has a problem. The problem is that the machine hangs entirely after printing "boot:" on the tty. The stanza being booted in /boot/extlinux.conf is: label xe # XenServer kernel mboot.c32 append /boot/xen.gz

Recommended Best way to Upgrade/Update Xen
This might be a silly question for most, but since Xen is ever so changing with regular changesets and updates, what is the "best practice" way to upgrade / update or even downgrade Xen? 1.) Is it by booting into regular Linux Kernel without Xen, do a complete uninstall of the old Xen, than install the newly compiled Xen? 2.) Is it by booting into regular Linux Kernel without Xen,

efi config hang
works with legacy, hangs with efi. where works is: No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found! but enter and ^v make things happen hangs is: nothing happens, no response from keyboard, have to reboot. note: config prompt.cfg prompt.cfg does not exist, but I would expect similar behaviour between efi and legacy. test is: starting with blank image, mkfs, mount it... + cp

Re-ordering the order of lattice graphics panels
Dear all I have made some lattice graphs (bwplot(dead ~ treat | group,...). 'group' is a factor with three levels (Artemia larvae, Abalone larvae and Abalone spat), and the result is a graph with three panels corresponding to the levels in 'group', ordered in alphabetical order from bottom to top, as expected. How does one re-order the order in which the levels of

PXELINUX 6.03 / vesamenu.c32 hang
Just tested with the latest VirtualBox and that works OK, so it's definitely something specific to ESXi 6.0.0 (it worked previously under 5.x ESXi versions). Thanks, Dan Jackson (Lead ITServices Technician). -----Original Message----- From: Syslinux [mailto:syslinux-bounces at zytor.com] On Behalf Of Jackson, Dan via Syslinux Sent: 16 June 2016 09:27 To: 'syslinux at zytor.com'

PXELINUX 6.03 / vesamenu.c32 hang
Hello, Thanks very much for your suggestions. I have double checked that all .c32 files are from the same version of syslinux. What I don't know - I only put those .c32 files I have in there on the basis of trial and error - is what .c32 files are actually needed for menu.c32 and/or vesamenu.c32. I thought perhaps there might be a .c32 file missing that I needed to put in there (though

vesamenu.c32 and EFI
Hello! I've been attempting to add EFI support to a linux live distro (slax), it's built on a syslinux bootloader. I can get EFI to work using menu.c32 on syslinux 6.03; however ideally we'd like the VESA menu as well. When we use the vesamenu.c32 and libcom32.c32 from 6.03 we end up with a blank screen and the machine seems to hang. I've tried adding MENU RESOLUTION based on

efi config hang

That's an old directive that was "replaced" by the equivalent 'F10' directive (so you test it in the same exact way). BTW, in other distribution media such as Debian's ISO images, it is already changed from "f0 f10.txt" to
