Bootable ISO with extra data outside the ISO?
Sorry if this is a total noob question... I've searched the archives and
haven't turned up much. Not turning up much on the web in general, either.
I'm working on a project and I'd like to create a Linux bootable ISO disc
with an extra chunk of data **outside** the ISO space. This chunk of data
might be a 10MB tar/zip. The goal would be to boot into Linux in RAM off
the disc

OT: Please comment on Dvorak's troll
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1812887,00.asp
Specifically, his assertion that ISP's would sniff traffic and block, say,
the SIP port. You could play wack-a-mole with port numbers, no?
Also a community based, Freenet style of encryption implementation for
"free" VoIP traffic would address this issue.
I raise this to the list because I'm sure there's a grain of

How to make performance test in samba4
Hi everybody,
I have several VMs running on Xenserver 6.5
I have 2 samba servers (1 DC & 1 Fileserver). They are both running Debian
Linux 8.2 Jessie.
I'm using the samba debian package (4.1.17)
My VM has 8G RAM and 4 vCPU
How can i test if the performances are quite good or not? with
reading/writing
Could I have better performance with the latest samba release?
thanks

Can AGI do this?
Please pardon the absolute noob questions. Someone has asked me to
interface with Asterisk and have it dial 4 numbers in succession to have
it track down an on-call person.
My initial reaction was to write an AGI program and return all 4 numbers
and have Asterisk hunt them - can Asterisk do this?
If not, is it possible to write an AGI program that gets all 4 numbers,
then somehow hands them

Playing GSM files in Windows
For the archives...
In trying to play GSM files in Windows (Windows XP for me, but in
general) I found no help on Google, so when I figured it out I thought I
would post it here.
Q: How do I play GSM Files in Windows?
A: Use Quicktime, it supports the GSM audio format directly.

Module Versioning
Suppose...:
- For non-releases: "git" + We take the first 6 chars of git commit
- For releases: "ver" + major + "." + minor
- For tar-balls: Something clever, maybe involving the date
...that we embed such a version in Syslinux core and in all OS programs
and modules. Maybe even with some nearby magic so that a "whichver"
command can examine and answer.

Burning DVD with files>4GB from console
My backup script split filesystem dumps to files with size of 4,37 GB (4
588 544 kB). It's just an optimal size to fill out DVDs. At this moment
I have to burn them from windows via smb-link becuase I didn't manage to
do this task from FreeBSD console due to 2GB/4GB filesize restrictions
(growisofs). I'm using freeware CDBurnerXP to burn my backups
(ISO9660/UDF/Joliet), and they

Problem with PAM/SSSD/SAMBA4.1.2
Hi
I hope that I am not totally wrong when asking this on a Samba list, but
as I followed a tutorial found at the SAMBA wiki I hope I can find
someone how is able to help me.
My goal is to set up a server acting as a SAMBA AD Server with single
sign on for linux users.
I use a Ubuntu Server 13.10 as the base. On top of this I installed a
SAMBA 4.1.2 from GIT, did provisioning, Kerberos

sanbooting FreeBSD ISO under UEFI
Hi all,
I currently use iPXE to load memdisk and, subsequently, a FreeBSD disk
image to perform an OS installation to disk. This works great in BIOS, but
upcoming requirements make UEFI a prerequisite. Because memdisk is not
UEFI-aware, new UEFI-aware media is necessary. The current plan is to
integrate the installation scripts (currently in the hard drive image) into
a bootable FreeBSD ISO

Brasero/cdrecord/growisofs with selinux users confined to staff_u
Hello CentOS / RedHat / IBM folks!
I am wondering if I can get a communication channel opened with
someone who can affect changes win upstream RHEL? I don't have
support accounts with RHEL, and use CentOS almost exclusively. I did
have a direct email conversation with Mr. Daniel Walsh regarding these
problems, but his answer was to create custom policy to allow what's
being denied, as
