Can almost boot on UEFI win8.1 laptop
I have used syslinux 4.0x and earlier for many years, with Puppy Linux and more recently Quirky Linux. Though, my knowledge of all the capabilities of syslinux remains rudimentary. I am new to UEFI. I recently got my hands on a win8.1 laptop, 64-bit system, and decided to tackle booting Quirky on it, from a USB stick. I turned off Secure Boot. I wrote /usr/share/syslinux/gptmbr.bin to the flash

Ady, Thanks for taking the time to respond to my lengthy post. extlinux - Failed to load ldlinux.c32
Hello there I built development version of syslinux from git 6.04-pre3-3-(sometag) and I am trying to boot a slackware-current system with it. I do not use a separated partition for `/boot`. It's just `/dev/sda1` here for `/` and `/boot` is just a folder. I simply use `mbr.bin` against a DOS partition table and the first partition having the bootable flag. With this layout, the only

isolinux 6.04-pre3-3-g05ac953 - failed to load ldlinux.c32
Hi, We have been using isolinux 3.75 for a while now, to support pxelinux and UEFI we were going to update to 6.03, but seeing 6.04 has but fixes, decided to go with 6.04-pre3. First, is that about read for a "make official' ? Second, I did have to modify gnu-efi/inc/efilinks.h for the build to complete (had to remove the (intptr_t) which doesn't belong in EFI/EDK). So I've

Swfdec and Ffmpeg only
Hi, I'm the founder and still very active developer of Puppy Linux, and a variant named Quirky. Puppy is a cut-down distro, typically 100MB live-CD. We have always used the Adobe Flash player, though I have stayed with the Flash 9 player (9.0.48.0) due to its smaller size. Puppy also has ffmpeg, xine-lib and gxine. Recently I have been experimenting with Swfdec and Swfdec-mozilla. I started

Thank you for your answer. I need to correct some information from my previous post: booting from `/` did not work either. I just assumed it did based on previous experience. But with that successful build on development branch, it did not either. > I would suggest trying first the official binaries that are already > included in the official distribution archive (6.03-pre1). PXELINUX 6.03 / vesamenu.c32 hang
Hello, Thanks very much for your suggestions. I have double checked that all .c32 files are from the same version of syslinux. What I don't know - I only put those .c32 files I have in there on the basis of trial and error - is what .c32 files are actually needed for menu.c32 and/or vesamenu.c32. I thought perhaps there might be a .c32 file missing that I needed to put in there (though

PXELINUX 6.03 / vesamenu.c32 hang
Hello, I'm experiencing an issue where if I use vesamenu.c32 with PXELINUX 6.03 when network booting a virtual machine hosted on VMware ESXi 6.0, it hangs (the version message is printed and then nothing - the VM has to be powered off and back on again). This happens no matter if I choose the E1000 network interface or the VMXNET3 network interface when creating the VM. The same problem

PXELINUX 6.03 / vesamenu.c32 hang
Just tested with the latest VirtualBox and that works OK, so it's definitely something specific to ESXi 6.0.0 (it worked previously under 5.x ESXi versions). isolinux 6.04-pre3-3-g05ac953 - failed to load ldlinux.c32
Okay, thanks. I just tried 6.01-pre1, downloading the .xz file. But that won't build because the gnu-efi directory is empty. ??
