gpt and extlinux how to get it bootable?
Hi
I just tried to implement gpt extlinux booting in my archboot project.
extlinux installs fine but i'm not able to boot the hd afterwards.
Setting partition to boot on in parted doesn't seem to have an effect in GPT
mode.
Is there any way to get it booting, i haven't found any docu about it.
Thanks in advance
greetings

Boot Error GPT partition
Hi all,
I was using grub2 for booting Archlinux x86_64 in my GPT
Internal HDD (/dev/sda) then I switched to syslinux/extlinux. It was
working fine but suddenly it staring showing "Boot Error" message on
screen. I googled for a solution and tried all syslinux versions from
4.04-pre4 down to 4.03-stable but non of them worked. I don't know
what suddenly changed caused this

C7 + UEFI + GPT + RAID1
Hi list,
I'm new with UEFI and GPT.
For several years I've used MBR partition table. I've installed my
system on software raid1 (mdadm) using md0(sda1,sdb1) for swap,
md1(sda2, sdb2) for /, md2 (sda3,sdb3) for /home. From several how-to
concerning raid1 installation, I must put each partition on a different
md devices. I've asked times ago if it's more correct create the

Install syslinux on GPT drive with Windows
I'm trying to make a drive that can boot with both UEFI and BIOS. I've
built the drive successfully on my Linux machine, but can't get the drive
to build with my Windows machine. The only step that's different right now,
is that I use `extlinux --install /media/drive` to install with Linux, and
`syslinux.exe --install d:` to install with Windows. In fact, I can prepare
a drive with

C7 + UEFI + GPT + RAID1
Hi messmer,
seems that anaconda supports partitioned RAID devices. Disk selection
see one mdraid device and permits to create partition on it.

Can almost boot on UEFI win8.1 laptop
I have used syslinux 4.0x and earlier for many years, with Puppy Linux
and more recently Quirky Linux. Though, my knowledge of all the
capabilities of syslinux remains rudimentary.
I am new to UEFI. I recently got my hands on a win8.1 laptop, 64-bit
system, and decided to tackle booting Quirky on it, from a USB stick.
I turned off Secure Boot.
I wrote /usr/share/syslinux/gptmbr.bin to the flash

CentOS 7 grub.cfg missing on new install
Greetings -
The short story is that got my new install completed with the partitioning I
wanted and using software raid, but after a reboot I ended up with a grub
prompt, and do not appear to have a grub.cfg file. So here is a little
history of how I got here, because I know in order for anyone to help me
they would subsequently ask for this information. So this post is a little
long, but

Not necessarily. You could put LVM on top of the RAID device, and
create logical volumes.

sorry for not being detailed enough.

Yes. This would make us independent from the BIOS boot mode.

uefi and bios bootable optical media
We have been using syslinux (V4.05) in our product for years without a problem.
Since we encounter more and more systems that do a UEFI boot by default
we want to support that too. So I've been using syslinux V6.03 to create
usb sticks and harddisks to allow both bios and uefi boot which works fine.
The problem I run into now is that it is not possible to create a
dvd that is capable of

[PATCH 0/3] virt-resize: preserve GPT partitions label
Hi,
attached there are few patches to implement a way to get the label of
GPT partitions (refactoring an existing function and adding a new
daemon API) and using it in virt-resize to restore them when copying
partitions.
Thanks,
Pino Toscano (3):
daemon: parted: refactor sgdisk info parsing code
New API: part-get-name (RHBZ#593511).
resize: preserve GPT partition names (RHBZ#1060404).

[PATCH] daemon: drop error message check in do_part_expand_gpt
part-expand-gpt takes extreme cautions and doesn't proceed to writing
to the disk if the preliminary dry run of sgdisk has generated any
warnings on stdout.
This blocks the use of part-expand-gpt on disk shrink (with disk
resize being the main usecase for part-expand-gpt), because sgdisk dry
run produces a warning in that case.
So remove the excessive safety check, and leave it up to the

At least gptmbr.bin might come to mind (after all, GPT is part of the
UEFI specs). Isohybrid with UEFI options perhaps too?

I'm not saying for certain these are the reasons for such dependencies,

Creating Syslinux UEFI usb boot
I am looking for guides on how to create syslinux uefi bootable usb.
A syslinux bootable usb is created already with vesamenu and luascripting.
Want to set up the same thing to be UEFI compatible.
In this case I am booting an vmware esxi installer. /EFI/boot on the vmware ISO has the files?BOOTX64.EFI and?BOOTIA32.EFI that can be used on the usb. But these always go directly to boot.cfg,

Good to know that this is expected behavior. However, some sort of
indication that the initramfs
