chain.c32 memcmp bug
Hello, I've noticed that finding disks by guid using chain.c32 from both 4.03 and latest 4.04 pre12 doesn't work as expected (unable to find requested GPT disk/partition). The entered guid is correct according to gdisk and chain.c32 debug information but still chain.c32 claims it can't find the drive. The bug is located in function find_by_guid, line 991. It is is_me =

[PATCH] : Add diskbypartname option to chain.c32
Looking at the UEFI specs, and _if_ I understand Erwan's patch correctly, we are talking about searching for a "Partition Name". Avoiding the "label" term for this new option should help in reducing some potential confusions (e.g. BSD's "disklabel", fdisk's "partition label (type)", filesystem's "volume label"...). So, IMO,

chain.c32 (and partiter) updates v2
This is a bit updated set of chain.c32 changes that simplifies a few things (and in partiter part), fixes few minor issues and adds a few new features. Details are in the following commits, below is the summary and pull details at the end. Shao - any chance to peek over them ? Most of those are relatively simple changes and well tested, though of course something might have slipped my attention.

PATCH/RFC chain.c: update iterator code, yank from chain.c, move both to separate directory
1) code split and move Iterator related functionality is yanked from chain.c and moved to iterator.{c,h}. Both are moved to com32/chain and this way chain.c is ready for further splitting. Alternatively, partiter could be moved to com32/lib at any time in the future. It's potentially useful for other modules (e.g. if someone wanted to code partition dumper or editor). 2) Iterator updates

Adding a "boot from local hard disk" option to syslinux menu, booted from USB
Hi all, I use XP on my laptop PC, with 30 GB HD (single partition), and a 3.5" hard drive (not a stick), accessed through a USB encasing, partitioned as five logical drives. I have successfully set up syslinux to boot several Ubuntu versions from the primary USB hard drive partition, and no problems there. The problem is, I would like to have an entry in the menu, like "Boot from

[PATCH 3/6] chain/partiter: adjust error reporting
Use <0 for errors, 0 for normal state, and >0 for clean completion. In future this would be necessary if it's decided to make partiter a generic lib (similar to disklib) - though it has to be quieted first and provide strerr()-like functionality in place of its verbosity. diff --git a/com32/chain/chain.c b/com32/chain/chain.c index ae95d45..c08ec6e 100644 --- a/com32/chain/chain.c +++

bug in com32/modules/chain.c
Hello, The main function in com32/modules/chain.c does a lot of argument parsing, finding the drivename, partition, seg, etc., for two statements nullifying most of the work: drivename = argv[1]; partition = argv[2]; /* Possibly null */ Seeing as the function initializes the variables correctly at the beginning: drivename = "boot"; partition = NULL; shouldn't these

[PATCH 0/6] chain.c32 patches
This small set fixes few bugs, improves gpt handling (under buggy conditions) and implements strict flag with more fine grained control which should fix issues with sanity checks against disk sizes. If this set is allright I'd want to do what I mentioned in older discussion with Ady - backport missing patches from 6.x to 5.x and 4.x so all versions have up to date chain version. Michal

Patch for chain.c32: Set default boot drive to CD drive from which ISOLINUX is booted
chain.c32 of SYSLINUX 3.82 does set the boot drive passed to the DL register to 0x80 and not to the boot drive (CD-drive). This can be a problem if you want to chainload grldr (grub4dos bootloader) from a CD and if you want to let grldr search for its menu.lst file on the CD. For more info: http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=8457 This 1 line patch fixes the issue (Thanks to

This patch introduces extra functionality to chain.c, mainly with reference to BPB adjustments, but not only that. It expects 3 small patches I sent earlier (they are included for easy reference, patches 1-3/4). The changes introduced are: 1) file and boot sector use separate options to control load address and jump address (if applicable). Options are as described below: *

[PATCH] chain.c: allocation fixes
1) At the end of main, there's attempt to free cur_part->record, which rarely comes from malloc. Only valid case is if gpt handover was performed and chaining was not successful (cur_part->record is overwritten with gpt specifc handover record). Freeing the handover area has been adjusted. 2) If our current iterator is ebr, parent wouldn't be freed at the end of main. Added generic

[PATCH 1/6] chain/partiter: fix and improve gpt handling in buggy cases
Previous version had some issues in case of error situations, among those: - backup gpt header was not read if reading of primary failed - alternating nature of lba_cur and lba_alt was ignored This patch fixes this and extends the gpt handling. The current behavior is: - try primary header; if unreadable or checksum fails (or sanity checks fail unless relax flag is set) - try secondary header
