G84 with kernel 5.3 hanging issues
Not sure if this is the correct forum for this question / issue so
please feel free to redirect me to an appropriate list.
My driver and graphics card information is below. This configuration has
been working great (much better than the nvidia proprietary driver)
until I upgraded from kernel 5.0 to 5.3. The desktop keeps hanging every

Thanks for replying, below are the only items I installed when I had the
problem last time
The sequence of events were:
I took an LVM snap
I initially installed all the pending packages and had the issue
I reverted back to before the lvm snap, made sure I didn't have the issue
I installed everything but the kernel, made sure I didn't have the issue
and removed the snap

This is not a known issue. No GPU support has been dropped from nouveau
(thus far, nor ever, I expect). Did you update anything other than the
kernel?

Bad performace for NV18 driver
Hi!
I have some strange results on my test with nouveau drivers
I'm using a old GeForce4 MX 4000 (NV18) with 128 MB.
I have made 2 test.
-The default configuration, using nomodeset without nouveau_vieux_dri.so
$inxi -G
Graphics: Card: NVIDIA NV18 [GeForce4 MX 4000]
X.Org: 1.12.4 drivers: vesa,nouveau (unloaded: fbdev)
Resolution: 1024x768 at 0.0hz

Problems with nouveau driver in Ubuntu 18.04

I use Ubuntu 18.04, since one of the last upgrades I have problems with nouveau drivers.
My screen look like the picture atteched.

Bad performace for NV18 driver
After update the system now I use:
Kernel 3.9.2
x server 1.12.4
nouveau 1.0.7
the xorg config are at:

It's the one installed by my distro, without any modification
I have made 2 test.

Possible nouveau driver problem?
I am running Rocky Linux latest version with the Mate Desktop 1.26.2 (the latest version in the EPEL repository) on a Dell Inspiron laptop with a 3840 x 2160 display and an external 1920 x 1080 Acer
monitor connected via HDMI, see output below:

NV40 under Debian
Hi list,
my media center PC is freshly installed with Debian 10.2 "Buster". It doesn't support Geforce 6800 GT (NV40) boards through the nvidia nor the nvidia-legacy drivers any longer. The legacy drivers worked up until Debian 9 "Stretch", but no longer.

when installing packages for R on Linux, is it better to use my distro's package manager, or install.packages()?
I'm running R (currently 4.4.1) on Linux Mint
