640x480 does not fill screen
I've been using the NVidia drivers and recently managed to
get Nouveau working. Well almost working.
Running the command:
xrandr -s 640x480
results in a desktop that spans the monitor but leaves black bands of
about a third of the screen on the top and bottom.
This results in an unreadable display playing games like Lbrickbuster2.
I'd like the display to fill the screen.

NV43: Native resolution not available on Dell 2007FP
I have a Dell 2007FP monitor. NV43 (GeForce 6600) can not use the native
resolution.
1600x1200 is listed under "DDC gathered Modelines" with the rest of the
info, but then is missing from "probed modes".
I have a secondary card, NV4a (GeForce 6200, PCI). It works with this
card. This card does not show "DDC gathered modelines" at all, and
1600x1200 is listed

This is sort of working -- but
I can't get it to do a 4k output.
Not sure how the monitor resolution is detected -
This monitor is supposed to do 3480x1200 60hz 4:4:4
But the info I get from hwinfo is different.
How does nouveau get this information?
If it is from an ID - with a list - the list is probably is wrong.

How do you set the refresh frequency for the X server?
During the kickstart installation of the CentOS 4.3 systems I
recently built, anaconda probed for the video card (Intel 945) and
monitor (NEC MultiSync 2070NX). The optimal setting for this monitor
is 1600x1200 @ 60Hz. The X server is configured to use 1600x1200,
but it is using a higher refresh rate, which causes the monitor to
display an error message, and it also locks you out of

Thanks - I suspected it was too new.
I'm finding the monitor capabilities miss identified even if I use an older card - I'm

It would be useful to know how the screen is connected. Also please
grab the monitor's EDID from /sys/class/drm/cardN-connector/edid and
attach it here. It would also be interesting to get a boot with
"drm.debug=0x1e nouveau.debug=disp=trace" which has the modeswitch in
question.
The thing about 640x480 is that it's not a lot of pixels, too few for
some modern monitors. I

Thank you for your interest.
I am running CentOS-7 installed from CentOS-7-x86_64-LiveKDE-1503.iso
and later upgraded to CentOS-7.2.
The only packages I have installed have been from CentOS and Epel repos.

GV98 adapter, experience with nouveau
I'm trying to put to work the nouveau driver on
slackware 64 bits current, kernel 4.4.*.
I've thought the hardware to be some obscure OEM
variant of GT610. However, kind soul on IRC
pointed out that it's a G98 really, 'GeForce
9300 GS or 8400 GS'.
Proprietary NVIDIA drivers:
