PXELINUX and PowerSave Mode ...
We have a lot of diskless Linux clients which are booting via PXELINUX
or ETHERBOOT. The problem is that they are on for 24 hours and APM
PowerSave mode works for ETHERBOOT only. But in the future we want to
use PXELINUX only, which seems to have no features for APM or ACPI
PowerSave included. Would it be possible to integrate such features in
PXELINUX or is there a way to boot a special image

ext3 and powersave
Hi,
This is probably a silly question, but, does ext3 allow ide drives to go
int powersave mode? Thinking of upgrading my home linux router to ext3,
but I'm wondering if it'll keep my drives awake all the time. I have ext3
running on several servers at work, and some of my workstations too. I
can't tell for certain if the drives on my workstations go into powersave
now that i've

[PATCH 1] Add cpufreq governors: performance, powersave, userspace
Add cpufreq governors: performance, powersave, userspace
This patch add 3 more governors beside original running ondemand cpufreq governor.
performance governor is with best performance, keeping cpu always running at highest freq;
powersave governor is with best power save effect, keeping cpu always running at lowest freq;
userspace governor provide user setting freq ability;

gdmgreeter and powersave
I have a bunch of workstations running CentOS 5.2. When the gdmgreeter is displayed, the monitor never blanks or powers off even though I have DPMS enabled in xorg.conf. When a user is logged in it works as expected. I Googled around and saw some references to this happening, but have not found a solution. Am I missing something obvious? The display adapters are Radeon 2400X's and use

[Bug 98398] Acer Aspire V7-582PG (Haswell, GTX 750M) fails to power off GPU with runtime PM
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98398
--- Comment #11 from Peter Wu <peter at lekensteyn.nl> ---
So 4.7 and before used the "DSM" method on runtime-suspend:
- \_SB.PCI0.RP05.PEGP._DSM would be invoked to enable Optimus
- \_SB.PCI0.RP05.PEGP._PS3 is then invoked which would enter D3cold
(note, this method is still used in 4.8 on older laptops or with the

Monitor not put in powersaving mode
I notice that CentOS 5 only blanks out my screen, but doesn't set it to
powersaving mode (the power LED stays blue instead of going yellow). I
think I saw this on CentOS 4 as well, but I had a CentOS 4 console machine
only for a short time back then and after that only remotely used ones.
Now I have one fully running workstation with X under CentOS 5 and would
like to fix that.

Xen 4.2.0 - CPU Frequency Scaling
Hi,
This has been a problem since the xen-acpi-processor code was added to
the kernel source. I wasn''t sure if the problem I was seeing was
related to the old version (4.1.2) of Xen that I was using but now I''m
on 4.2.0 and it still exists I thought I would check if I have a
misconfiguration or if I have discovered a problem. My system is a dual

centos 7: trouble setting the ondemand governor
Hi,
The default "stop" action for the cpupower service seems to be to set
the ondemand governor, but this fails. I can reproduce the issue
directly by running cpupower:
$ sudo cpupower frequency-set -g ondemand
Setting cpu: 0
Error setting new values. Common errors:
- Do you have proper administration rights? (super-user?)
- Is the governor you requested available and modprobed?

power management / tuned following external power source
hi,
twice in the last week I've been caught out where the laptop was running
tuned with 'throughput-performance' profile on the work table, and I
walked away, carried on working - and had the battery run flat in just
over an hour.
Compare this with tuned running the 'powersave' profile - will usually
take the battery through to 3hrs+ - and if i just totally turn down the

Disable Kernel Screen Blanker
Hey Y'all,
I'm trying to turn off the kernel screen blanker that shuts off the
video after about 10 minutes of inactivity at the keyboard. After
extensive googling I've found two ways to *NOT* do it.
In my home .xinitrc
setterm -blank 0 -powersave off -powerdown 0
xset s off
In /etc/rc.local
/usr/bin/setterm -powersave off -blank 0
I've tried both to no effect.
Of course

multinomial logit discrete choice model
Hi,
I'm struggling trying to specify a multinomial logit discrete choice model
in R.
Any help and/or code examples appreciated.
I am specifically interested in specifying a model where no universal choice
set exists and each choice set has a variable number of alternatives (one of
which is chosen) see data below.
Many Thanks,
David
PS I have asked earlier but without reply.
Is it

Modified discrete cosine transform
I am trying to learn something of the algorithms used in
Vorbis. One of them is the "Modified Discrete Cosine
Transform" (MDCT). I have found a couple of books with brief
descriptions of the DCT, but almost nothing about MDCT.
(1) is there just one Modified DCT, which can be
expected to be the same whenever someone uses that
name, or does it just mean that you have changed

DIscrete choice mlogit
Hi
I am trying to estimate stated preferences for Tv sets by using mlogit. The
choice set is designed as with 4 attributes: [ brand(has 4 levels),
technology(has two levels), class[has 4 levels), price(has 4 levels)]
There are 16 choice sets with 4 alternatives each one (i.e. each respondent
has evaluated 64 cards in total). Therefore, there are 64 rows in the table
below.
The data in csv file

How can I represent a shape using 1-D discrete wavelet descriptor s?
I only concern about the boundary of the shape and I don¡¯t concern gray
level.
U[m] = x[m] + jy[m] m= 0,1,¡,N-1 is the N points on the boundary.
It is easy to express U as a discrete Fourier series.
But it seems like that wd in the wavethresh package cannot deal with complex
values.
And it is not interesting to transfer U to a matrix.
Thanks a lot

discrete (binary) choice panel data
Dear all,
I haven?t used R for panel data analysis so far, but now I am looking for a package respectively some starting point for binary choice panel data analysis in R.
For starters most of my effects are individual and my dependent variable is just binary. Thanks for any suggestions in advance!

goodness of fit between two samples of size N (discrete variable)
Hello list:
I generate by simulation (using different procedures) two sample vectors of size N, each corresponding to a discrete variable and I want to text if these samples can be considered as having the same probability distribution (which is unknown). What is the best test for that?
I've read that Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Anderson-Darling tests are restricted to continuous data
