[PATCH v2 1/2] drm/nouveau: Don't enabling polling twice on runtime resume
As it turns out, on cards that actually have CRTCs on them we're already calling drm_kms_helper_poll_enable(drm_dev) from nouveau_display_resume() before we call it in nouveau_pmops_runtime_resume(). This leads us to accidentally trying to enable polling twice, which results in a potential deadlock between the RPM locks and drm_dev->mode_config.mutex if we end up trying to enable polling

[PATCH] drm/nouveau: Fix drm poll_helper handling
Commit cae9ff036eea effectively disabled the drm poll_helper by checking the wrong flag to see if the driver should enable the poll or not: mode_config.poll_enabled is only set to true by poll_init and it is not indicating if the poll is enabled or not. nouveau_display_create() will initialize the poll and going to disable it right away. After poll_init() the mode_config.poll_enabled will be true,

[PATCH 2/2] drm/nouveau: Queue hpd_work on (runtime) resume
We need to call drm_helper_hpd_irq_event() on resume to properly detect monitor connection / disconnection on some laptops, use hpd_work for this to avoid deadlocks. [PATCH] nouveau: forward error generated while resuming objects tree
On a failed resume we may experience unrecoverable errors. Plumb the error code through to actually let the driver fail. On a reverse-prime setup this helps the drm subsystem to at least recover the integrated gpu. This can especially happen with secboot timing out, leaving the hardware in a non-functioning state. [PATCH 5/7] vga_switcheroo: Use device link for HDA controller
Back in 2013, runtime PM for GPUs with integrated HDA controller was introduced with commits 0d69704ae348 ("gpu/vga_switcheroo: add driver control power feature. (v3)") and 246efa4a072f ("snd/hda: add runtime suspend/resume on optimus support (v4)"). Briefly, the idea was that the HDA controller is forced on and off in unison with the GPU. The original code is mostly still in

[PATCH 1/5] drm/nouveau: Prevent RPM callback recursion in suspend/resume paths
In order to fix all of the spots that need to have runtime PM get/puts() added, we need to ensure that it's possible for us to call pm_runtime_get/put() in any context, regardless of how deep, since almost all of the spots that are currently missing refs can potentially get called in the runtime suspend/resume path. Otherwise, we'll try to resume the GPU as we're trying to resume the

[PATCH 2/2] drm/nouveau: Grab an rpm reference before/after DP AUX transactions
Now that we have ->pre_transfer() and ->post_transfer() for DP AUX channel devices, we can implement these hooks in order to ensure that the GPU is actually woken up before AUX transactions happen. This fixes /dev/drm_dp_aux* not working while the GPU is suspended, along with some more rare issues where the GPU might runtime-suspend if the time between two DP AUX channel transactions ends up

[PATCH v2] drm: don't continue with anything after the GPU couldn't be woken up
This should make systems more stable where resuming the GPU fails. This can happen due to bad firmware or due to a bug within the kernel. The last thing which should happen in either case is an unusable system. v2: do the same in nouveau_pmops_resume Tested-by: Karl Hastings <kazen at redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Karol Herbst <kherbst at redhat.com> --- drm/nouveau/nouveau_drm.c | 31

[PATCH v4 1/8] drm/nouveau: Fix bogus drm_kms_helper_poll_enable() placement
Turns out this part is my fault for not noticing when reviewing 9a2eba337cace ("drm/nouveau: Fix drm poll_helper handling"). Currently we call drm_kms_helper_poll_enable() from nouveau_display_hpd_work(). This makes basically no sense however, because that means we're calling drm_kms_helper_poll_enable() every time we schedule the hotplug detection work. This is also against the

[PATCH 1/2] drm/nouveau: Rename acpi_work to hpd_work
We need to call drm_helper_hpd_irq_event() on resume to properly detect monitor connection / disconnection on some laptops. For runtime-resume (which gets called on resume from normal suspend too) we must call drm_helper_hpd_irq_event() from a workqueue to avoid a deadlock. Rename acpi_work to hpd_work, and move it out of the #ifdef CONFIG_ACPI blocks to make it suitable for generic work.
