Horrible write performance from XP to Samba
I noted an extremely poor performance when copying big files from a windows xp client to a samba share. The exact version of samba does not seem to matter: I tried several different samba servers with versions between 3.014 and 3.0.23b running on Linux 2.4.32 and 2.6.17 (machines and network otherwise idle, clients connected via fast ethernet, servers via Gbit; network performance in both

Sharing Accounts between Servers and SIDs
I maintain a heterogenous network with a shared LDAP account database. The user accounts have globally unique user names, UIDs and RIDs. Some, but not all accounts are valid on all machines, but there is no need for samba to care about this, because there simply won't be a unix account for invalid users. There are no MS servers involved, and because every samba server has the same user account

"rsync --delete" won't delete certain files
Hi, as I just discovered, in recent versions of rsync the "--delete" option seems to not work in certain cases. I couldn't come up with a simple scenario to reproduce the problem, so I'll have to tell the whole story: I use rsync to regularly backup a system onto other disks. The filesystems I want to save are mounted on "/", "/usr/ and "/data", the

[RFC 00/20] drm/dp, i915, nouveau: Cleanup nouveau HPD and add DP features from i915
To start off: this patch series is less work to review then it looks - most (but not all) of the nouveau related work has already been reviewed elsewhere. Most of the reason I'm asking for an RFC here is because this code pulls a lot of code out of i915 and into shared DP helpers. Anyway-nouveau's HPD related code has been collecting dust for a while. SOS: removal of "--with-ldapsam" configuration option
Hi, when trying to upgrade my smb servers from older 3.x versions to samba 3.0.23, I discovered, that (already in 3.0.22), the "--with-ldapsam" option has been removed. According to the corresponding entry in the release notes, this was "only used for backwards compatibility for 2.2 smb.conf files". As far as I can see however, not only the configuration file syntax has

[PATCH] drm/nouveau/kms/nv50-: Fix clock checking algorithm in nv50_dp_mode_valid()
While I thought I had this correct (since it actually did reject modes like I expected during testing), Ville Syrjala from Intel pointed out that the logic here isn't correct. max_clock refers to the max symbol rate supported by the encoder, so limiting clock to ds_clock using max() doesn't make sense. Additionally, we want to check against 6bpc for the time being since that's the

tricky rsync setup quit working
Hi, some time ago I had started working on a rsync-based backup system. After I longer break; I now tried to continue this project but can't get it to work anymore. Maybe somebody here has any idea. The basic setup looks like this: client: $rsync $rsync_opts --rsh="'ssh -i $ssh_key'" $filesystems $bak_host::backup_module/path on the server side, the ssh key triggered a

[PATCH v2 1/2] drm/nouveau/kms/nv50-: Get rid of bogus nouveau_conn_mode_valid()
Ville also pointed out that I got a lot of the logic here wrong as well, whoops. While I don't think anyone's likely using 3D output with nouveau, the next patch will make nouveau_conn_mode_valid() make a lot less sense. So, let's just get rid of it and open-code it like before, while taking care to move the 3D frame packing calculations on the dot clock into the right place.

[PATCH 00/10] extract dp helper functions
Hi all, I've frustrated myself the last few days yelling at our link training code. Comparing the i915 code to radeon and nouveau I've noticed the lack of a nice set of dp helper functions. So I've started to extract a few. There's lots more that we can do I think (link configuration selection, the i2c over aux retry stuff which diverges already between i915 and radeon, maybe
