Problem with external monitor on laptop
I am running opensuse Leap 15 on an Alienware laptop. When I plug a monitor into the HDMI socket xrandr shows that is disconnected. How can I get the system to send an event or something so it will look and see that a monitor is there. If I cycle power on the computer with the monitor connected both monitors come up connected. The command xrandr --auto does not bring the disconnected monitor

xrandr HDMI-1 and DVI-D-1 disconnected - External monitor not detected
Hi List, I'm stuck how to get a dual head monitor solution to work with Nouveau, running openSUSE 13.1 on my hp8710w mobile workstation equipped with a Nvidia graphical card. Beyond the built-in WUXGA display, an external WQHD monitor is connected to the HDMI port on the graphical card and/or to the dual link DVI-D on a hp docking station. To compare with SLED11/Nvidia driver running in

help with signal from monitor
I have an Alienware laptop that has Nvidia GTX 880M hardware driven by this driver. I recently purchased an ASUS_VN289H monitor. When my system gives a blanking command, the monitor returns some sort of lost signal message which causes the monitor to unblank and the time out I requested is cancelled. This is probably more of an HDMI question than specific to this hardware, but I was wondering

A little help with default resolution of CentOS7 and Panasonic TV
Hi, everyone. tldr: How in the heck do I force CentOS7 to boot to a low/conservative GDM resolution? Hoping someone can lend a hand getting CentOS7 to sync to my Panasonic Vierra 42' TV. It worked fine in CentOS6.5 but since installing I boot to a GDM background with no login prompt. I can SSH into the node and configure multiuser runlevel but that's not fun at all. ;) Here's the

xrandr HDMI-1 and DVI-D-1 disconnected - External monitor not detected
The important thing for display detection/setting proper modes/etc is the kernel -- what kernel version are you using? Separately, there has been a fix that affected VBIOSes found in NV96 cards, and it would not be a stretch to believe that a similar VBIOS script could be found in a NV92 card. However the NV96 error condition was different (everything detected fine, but no actual image displayed,

System hang on Alienware 13 with NVIDIA GP106M
We've seen a number of power management and secboot issues with the Pascal-series mobile GPUs. Without a command line it is hard to debug remotely, but see, as one possible example: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100228 Can you try booting with a kernel command line that includes "nouveau.runpm=0" as a debugging step. System hang on Alienware 13 with NVIDIA GP106M
I do not know how to debug this situation. Nothing appears in /var/log/messages. I miss the serial port:-( I executed a journalctl -r, and saw an error: kernel: nouveau 00001:01:00.0; Refused to change power state, currently in D3 The last message before reboot was: kernel: watchdog: Bug: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 22s! I assume the Nouveau driver is being used, but am not sure. I it Intel or Nouveau? When I boot the following appears in dmesg: nouveau: detected PR support, will not use DSM nouveau
