Nouveau Digest, Vol 104, Issue 60, GV-N430OC-1GL is needed to work under kernel 2.4
Hello!
I have very old distributive (RedHat 7.2, kernel 2.4.8-20).
One important program works on it with graphical user's interface.
(X11 works, KDE works.)
But this hard disk (IDE) is very old. Due of that my task now is to clone
this system to another (more modern, SATA) hard disk.
I have connected to this motherboard new disk (SATA) with Windows-7.

Cannot start a secondary Xserver with resolution 6480x3840
Hi,
thank you very much for your reply.
I will explain my use case in more detail. First thing is to note that
it worked with nvidia (apart from this annoying system freeze which
happened roughly every three months).

Cannot start a secondary Xserver with resolution 6480x3840
Hi,
In my workflow I am using several separate xservers. One for work,
another for research and so on. Each of them has a separate user
account, and they all belong to the same (main) group called janek.
I've been using nvidia for years, but about 2 years ago some super
annoying bug appeared in nvidia, namely that switching between
virtual terminals sporadically causes nvidia_modeset to

Larger X11 fonts under R-2.1.0
I view plots on my screen with X11(width=.455*11, height=.455*8.5),
which creates a small window with the American standard aspect ratio.
Under R-2.0.1 and earlier, the default fonts were a reasonable size,
but under R-2.1.0 they are too big and fat. I now have to either set
pointsize=10 in X11(), or par(cex=.7) afterwards.
The NEWS file has this to say about X11 fonts:

multiple cards and monitors with xrandr and opengl
Hi,
Thanks for your advice..! I have a few follow-up questions (tagged
below Q1, Q2 and Q3). Any help highly/extremely appreciated.
Regarding to "reverse prime", etc. I have read the following page:
https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/Optimus/
So, if we want a single "macro" xscreen that spans two cards, for example:
Card 0, connected to monitor 0
Card 1, connected to

Nouveau and multi-monitor setup for Quadro NVS450 (G98)
Hi,
I have a NVidia Quadro NVS450 graphics card with on screen (4800 x 1200
pixels) over three monitors. I use the proprietary NVidia modules to
achieve accelerated 2D graphics and display effects.
Since about the beginning of 2014, probably related to changes in the
X11 or compositing manager, I experience screen lockups lasting from few
seconds to several minutes. I therefore would like to

multiple cards and monitors with xrandr and opengl
Dear Devs,
We have achieved a desktop of up to six monitors, with openGL running
succesfully on the desktop, with the following setup/features:
* Ubuntu 16+
* Xrandr
* Noveau driver
* Two gtx750 graphic cards
Each (identical) graphic card has 2xHDMI + 2xDVI connectors, which we
connect to the monitor array.
So far it works with six monitors, but we'd like to achieve eight.
However,

Saving plot to tiff, with high resolution for publication ?
Hello all.
A Journal we are sending an article to is asking for the following:
To ensure the best reproduction quality of your figures we would appreciate
high resolution files. All figures should preferably be in TIFF or EPS
format... and should have the following resolution: Graph: 800 - 1200 DPI
Photo: 400 - 800 DPI
Color (only CMYK): 300 - 400 DPI (DPI = dots per inch)

samba3, network printing, additional problems
Hello,
First of all my thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I'm still
having an issue getting this network printer going. I'm now getting a
windows error from explorer.exe, i've checked all the windows system,
application, and security logs and of course the error is not in them. I
then turned samba's debug level to 10, reloaded it and tried again to
access the printer. This

Support for high DPI 4K screens
I was recently testing R and RStudio on a high dpi 4K monitor under Windows and noticed that the plot window cannot be scaled or zoomed without affecting the relative sizing of all plot elements (line widths, font sizes, legend spacing etc). RStudio seems to try to overcome this by enabling dpi scaling for the plot window on high dpi screens, but this results in really fuzzy text and graphics

saving graphics in jpeg format
Dear R users,
I need to save a graph in jpeg format. After plotting the graph,
when the graphics window is active, in the File menu, the
Save as / Jpeg / 100% quality correctly saves the graph in jpeg format.
But I would like to know, how could I control the resolution (in dpi)
of the saved jpeg file? I need to produce a jpeg at 1200 dpi.
I have tried also the jpeg function in the package

quartz() and dpi
Hello all,
I am using quartz (on OS X obviously) to produce PDFs and PNGs from my
plots, for later inclusion in LaTeX.
I am typically using something like:
plot(0)
dev.print(quartz, file="foo.pdf", width=5, height=3)
dev.print(quartz, file="foo.png", width=5, height=3, dpi=72)
I want the sizes of the PDF and PNG to be *equal* in *inches*, which
works with dpi=72. However,
