4K ~ 3840x2160 resolution and frame buffer support
Thank you for your quick reply.
I have a Gigabyte GT-730 2GB card hooked directly via a high quality
HDMI cable to a 65 inch Samsung curved screen LCD 4K monitor.
I'm not sure what I am looking for in dmesg and xorg log.
Please advise.
I have built the 3.19.8 kernel and enabled frame buffer support.
I can see 7 out of the 8 penguins when I boot.
My ultimate goal is to be able to boot to

CentOS 7 and 4K display
I installed C7 along with MATE desktop...
My monitor is a 4K unit but when I goto the
System -> preferences -> hardware -> Displays
there is selection for the 4K display. It stops at 1920x1080.
The var log x file shows the 4K resolutions in the file so that is good.
How do I get the selections for 4K to show up?
Thanks,
Jerry

It?s not a question of what is ?newer?. Fedora has ?fbset?, and has had it since before CentOS6 was released, and continues to have

I tried to resurrect a 32-bit desktop with a Pentium 4 processor by
installing CentOS 7 32-bit version. Everything installed OK, but after

setting up printers with Samba and Windows NT workstation
Hello all.
I'm a samba newbie given the task of setting up samba to act as a print
server for 5 HP laser printers ranging from the LaserJet 4MV to the
LaserJet 8150N. I've done a search of the samba mailing list archives to
see if my problem has already been addressed, but I have been unable to
find anything that refers to the same error I'm receiving. I am using SWAT

pxelinux and startrom.com
Greetings Luis,
I saw a thread about Startrom.com and startrom.o that had your name
attached...
I was wondering if you had a moment to comment on an issue that I have.
I have a Linux server that is our corporate PXE server. It is set up in
a logical folder structure so that a host can be pointed to boot a
variety of different OS's (DOS, Linux loaders, Windows PE). Here is in

nouveau framebuffer sync polarity
Hello everyone,
i use the noveau framebuffer device in kernel version 2.6.37.6.
my graphic adapter is a msi 9500gt, connected to a Barco CRT projector.
The Barco will only accept RGB signals with a negative sync.
Is there a kernel command line parameter to force negative sync

Winlink Airmail Help
Hello All.
I was running Winlink Airmail fine for several months. Somewhere between up grading Wine and Xubuntu I lost the ability to see what I was typing when writing a new e-mail. The text is there but it cannot be seen. If I miss spell and use the spell checker it will appear. When the spell checker is finished the printing disappears again. This is a built-in spell checker in Airmail.

Dear all,
I whish to relate my installation of R-4.0.0 on Debian.
I am mainly a Windows user and occasionnaly verify the CRAN checks of my

Activate DVI-I behind KVM on FX 5200
Hi folks,
I don't seem to be able to enable the DVI-I output of an old FX 5200
behind a KVM switch. Autodetection works fine if the FX 5200 DVI output
is switched to the monitor, but when it is not, I have not found a way
to force-enable it.
Here is what I tried:
*) used the video=DVI-I-1:1280x1024-24 at 60e kernel parameter
(framebuffer still sits at 1024x768)
*) used "options

Lots of bugs in xubuntu lucid
Hello guys,
i've decided to test nouveau driver and installed it recently from
official repos. My videocard is GeForce 4 with additional S-video and
Composite outputs, 64 MB of memory. I installed xubuntu, and tried to
use nouveau driver instead of official nvidia's. After switching driver,
the boot splash xubuntu logo turned into poor coloured low-resolutioned
one, but X loaded normally.

How to control shell access by group?
Sorry if this is too newbie. I would appreciate any help.
I would like to control shell access by group so that I don't have to
add it to parameter "template shell: and give everyone that is
authenticated shell access. I am using winbind so I see every window
user when I do a "getent passwd" with /bin/null as their shell but I
