wine-20010305 and serial port access
I'm trying to get the Windows-software for my digital camera to work
in wine under Mandrake 8.0 (kernel 2.4.3).
Installed wine without errors. Had a look at the ~/.wine/config and it
looked ok for me. The part concerning the serial ports:
[serialports]
"Com1" = "/dev/ttyS0"
"Com2" = "/dev/ttyS1"
"Com3" = "/dev/ttyS2"

wine.conf
Perhaps you help with the following problem.
I installed Wine rpm 20001002 on Mandrake 7.2 and then edited wine.conf.
When I start Wine from /usr/bin directory get this message:
Warning: could not find wine.conf [Drive x] entry for current working
directory /usr/bin starting in windows directory.
Then it says:
Usage: wine [options] program_name [arguments]
and then:

COPILOT Glucose Meter COM problem
I am a 62 year old beginner in Ubuntu. Thanks for any help, guidance, suggestions on this problem!
I have used commands like the following to be certain that I have an active com port:
dmesg | grep ttyS
rm com1
ln -s /dev/ttyS0 com1
So I suspect the solution lies somewhere in WINE.
If all else fails I will get a USB to SERIAL converter cable and try that.

COM: port problems
Unfortunately, almost all the Windows programs I want to run under
Wine need to access the COM: ports, and I cannot get any of them to run.
Typically, I get stuff like this ...

fixme:comm:EscapeCommFunction16 no cid=0 found!

Serial port fun: CentOS 4.8 (32-bit) vs. CentOS 5.4 (64-bit)
I am in the process of migrating from running CentOS 4.8 (32-bit) to
CentOS 5.4 (64-bit) on my AMD Sempron(tm) Processor LE-1300 system (it
is running CentOS 4.8 32-bit because the disk images are from a
previous PIII system), and things are 'interesting' WRT how the Lava
Computer mfg Inc Quattro-PCI card is being handled.
lspci (on CentOS 4.8 32-bit) yields:

Any work done on the Com Ports?
I have two questions.
In setting the COM ports someone posted that the Symbolic link should be
ie... /dev/ttyS0 > com1
Is it suppose to be upper or lower case for COM1????
Also has there been any recent work on the COM ports? I have an
application that works fine with vmware but under Wine. The COM port
isn't even seen.

Configuration after installation problem
I'm fairly new to wine. I'm running the version (Wine 20050211) that
comes with SuSE 9.3. I had been using the version that came with SuSE
9.1 (Wine 20040213), and recently ran the SuSE 9.3 upgrade installation.
Getting ready to try installing Word Perfect 8.0, I've been reading the
help documents. I recollect a warning not to run wine as root. By
mistake, I did so. When I did, it

how to rescan serial ports without reboot
Hi all,
I hope this is possible. I have a server, with a network switch
attached to the serial port, and I want to rescan the serial port
(/dev/tty) to see if it picks it up? I'd prefer not to reboot the
server if at all possible.
dmesg reports ttyS0 as the active port:
[root at zabackup01 ~]# dmesg |grep tty
Bootdata ok (command line is ro root=/dev/System/root rhgb quiet xencons=tty6)

Inquiry:External USB modem and Remote PC Access?
Dear All
Please be informed that I checked for the presence of internal modem on my
CentOS server , as the followings :
#dmesg |grep -i modem
#lspci |grep -i modem
#lshw |grep -i modem
According to the output , it seems that my CentOS client does not contain
internal modem . So I decided to add external USB modem and make use of an
PCAnyWhere like application that enables for Remote PC Access .

Reading from serial port
Hello,
I've got RFID card reader plugged in serial port.
cat /dev/ttyS0 ...gives me ID of the card I'm using => that's OK
As soon as I open the port with win32 appication via wine... I get no data from reader. Even cat /dev/ttyS0 does not work anymore afterwards.
I thinks it's because as soon as application opens it via wine some tty flags change:
