OT: Replacing Venerable NAS
We're using Synology boxes with good results so far. They're built on Linux with ssh access and good support for things like rsync. They have options to backup to remote servers including Amazon too. Using rsync to backup user redirected documents on ReadyNAS
Hello, Using Samba 4.4 as a DC on Ubuntu 12.04LTS. Users 'My Documents' are redirected to a member server running Samba 4.1.17 on Debian Wheezy. I joined the ReadyNAS to the DC and set permissions using file explorer. When I ssh to the ReadyNAS, I see the following on the folder destination. *drwxrwx---+ 1 administrator domain admins 20 Apr 1 10:55 pfms1* The rsync syntax and

Hello, ??????? I upgraded two DC's to 4.12.2 from 4.11.6 before I noticed authentication issues with a couple Netgear ReadyNAS we have. Very very slow SAMBA sharing on Ubuntu (with StorjShare-CLI)
I’m using a decentralized data storage application named StorjShare-CLI : https://github.com/Storj/storjshare-cli This application store data into « nodes ». StorjShare-CLI can run 1 or several « nodes » in order to store data located at different places. On a given Ubuntu machine I’m running both nodes located on this machine AND also nodes located on another machine (a Netgear ReadyNAS)

question about --link-dest and the rsync protocol
Hi all, I'm trying to figure out why a script works when using SSH but not when using the rsync protocol. When I run the following command: rsync -aPh --link-dest=/user/snapshots/rsync_test/last /home/user/rsync_test root at readynas.internal:/user/snapshots/rsync_test/Jan_11_2025 it works perfectly, correctly recognizing the link-dest parameter. However, when I try to run the same command

question about --link-dest and the rsync protocol
rsyncd doesn't take unix paths. You must adapt your --link-dest to contend with however the rsycd module is defined in rsyncd.conf. owner and group dont match
Hello, hopefully someone can help me. Our new Backup-Solutions contains rsync(2.6.8 protocol version 29) and a readynas-system. Right now I try to make a simple backup the directory /home/itpbach1. This directory contains two files: textfile.one (group/owner: itpbach1) textfile.two (group/owner: root) Backup-command(running as root): rsync -rogt /home/itpbach1 rsync://itpbach1@readynas/itpbach1

question about --link-dest and the rsync protocol
Hi Kevin, Thanks for your quick response. The rsyncd.conf file looks like: charset = utf-8 [user] path = /c/user comment = "" use chroot = true uid = root gid = root read only = false auth users = admin I'm still confused about how to specify the path. The actual UNIX path is: /c/user/snapshots/rsync_test/last I've tried: --link-dest=snapshots/rsync_test/last
