Understanding rsync --delete behavior
Hi,
When running an rsync command of the form:
$ rsync -avn --delete remotehost:/mnt/volsw_dev/AS5/ /mnt/volsw_dev/AS5
rsync wants to delete a slew of files and directories. Partial output
includes, for example:
deleting AS5/zeromq/2.2.0/share/man/man7/zmq_tcp.7
deleting AS5/zeromq/2.2.0/share/man/man7/zmq_pgm.7
deleting AS5/zeromq/2.2.0/share/man/man7/zmq_ipc.7

Up and running with ZeroMQ
Hi,
As suggested earlier, I'm getting adept with the usage of ZeroMQ and
understand its usage in the present context.
What I have done till now is :-
(1) Study ZeroMQ API and get in ease with its usage. Still implementing
sample programs and learning basic functions.
(2) Installed, compiled and setup my development environment with Xapian
and ZeroMQ. Lots of work here already!
Though, I

[IANA #1182277] Port Number (3493) Modification
I would like to suggest that if we modify the IANA registration of nut/3493, we
do it formally using the official IANA form
https://www.iana.org/form/ports-services , and that we agree on the form
contents before submitting it. For example, who is the new assignee and who is
the new contact?
The last thing the IANA services manager needs is to talk to an unstructured
crowd of us.

[EXTERNAL] Updates to NUT project leadership
Hello all,
I am excited to see the first replies, even if some seem to be private
messages. Thank you all! :)
In the following case, I think the raised question pertains to many
contributors on this list, so would answer publicly - and thanks for asking.

learning from the audio folks
Besides playing with Asterisk, i'm also using Linux for all kinds of
multimedia things, especially recording music, mixing, etc.
In order to use Linux as a digital audio workstation, there are a few
things that one must do: use low-latency kernels, use pre-emption, use
apps that run with real-time privileges, etc.
For example, among audio Linux users, the CK (Con Kolivas) and LCK

Getting Started with Xapian Socket codebase
Hi everyone,
This is Ankit; currently final-year Computer Science undergrad at Panjab
University, India. I am well versed in C++ and have a pretty decent
understanding of sockets. I successfully completed GSoC last year for IDI,
project titled - Google App Module for ATutor.
Quite recently, I have been working on the project idea - Replacing Xapian
socket code with ZeroMQ. This is to inquire

It's fairly easy to link against the libraries from rwinlib:
https://github.com/rwinlib/zeromq. I'll send you a pull request later
this week to fix the binary

GSoC 2012: Learning To Rank
Hello, guys!
How's it going?
I would like to offer you myself again to implement one of the ideas
during the GSoC 2012.
I want to take care of the "Learning To Rank" project, but I would
also be glad to pick the "QueryParser reimplementation", "Dynamic
Snippets", "Gmane Search improvements" or even "Replace socket code
with ZeroMQ" project (I

SIS and mailbox restore
Still on the problem with dovecot 2.2.27 ....
I use the single instance storage, and mdbox format. I use 2 zfs file
systems, one for mailboxes, the other for attachements. I use znapzend
to generate many zfs snapshots for backup purpose (inode numbers are
preserved but it is unusefull).
When I try to restore a deleted/purged mailbox with doveadm import I get
the error of the first attachement

[PATCH] tripplite driver updates
The tripplite driver was developed on a machine with a reliable serial
connection, and inherited the assumption that the serial line connection
would not drop, reorder, or fail character read and writes. This patch
adds significantly improved failure mode handling and also does basic
checks of data validity.
There's also a few minor cleanups/beautification.
I've tested this code on my

[R] Problems when trying to install and load package "rzmq"
Possibly so.
However, the ZeroMQ libraries do exist for Windows, so it might be possible to get the package working there. However, CRAN probably won't have the libraries, so cannot produce a binary package, and it is also quite possible that the package author is not a Windows person.
At the very least, you'll need some familiarity with the Windows toolchain and be prepared to apply a

Ruby-based Gmail killer?
Hi -
I have a similar question -- I really like using gmail.com, but I''m growing
distrustful of entrusting any more of my personal information with Google.
I''ve searched the rail list archives that I have (here in my gmail acct,
ironic, eh?) but haven''t seen a mention of a web-based Rails powered email
solution. Is there one available or in the works, or should I add

Mongrel 2 as a front end for Puppet?
Has anyone looked at using Mongrel 2 (http://mongrel2.org/) as a front
end for Puppet? I currently have my Puppet master running under
Passenger but I''m always curious about the new kid on the block.
What intrigues me about Mongrel 2 is that it uses ZeroMQ to separate
the front end from the back ends. I''ve looked at the problem briefly
but I''m a rails/rack/passenger

Patch for optiups to support Zinto D from ONLINE USV-Systeme AG
Hi Arnaud,
Hi Scott,
Hi list,
Here is a patch to support the Zinto D from ONLINE USV-Systeme AG.
I already sent a version to Russell Kroll (2006-04-09), without no response
and I cannot find support for Zinto in svn until now.
I found a discussion on this list about the Xanto from ONLINE, but the Zinto
seems to use different commands.
The commands are quite similar to those for Opti-UPS, so I

How about this replacement of WINE
From what I see on their descriptions (site is in Chinese!), this is NOT a
replacement of WINE. They place certain system services in the kernel and
have compile kernel-module (.ko) to service them. The kernel patches are very
small so this is not "bloat" as someone has stated. My main question is how
such patches effect OTHER common patches, especially real-time pre-emption.

[R] Problems when trying to install and load package "rzmq"
Hi, Paul.
I maintian the rzmq project.
love to get it running on windows, but zmq doesn't play nicely with R's
mingw.
These guys have taken the approach of building the entire zmq library
inside the R package:
https://github.com/snoweye/pbdZMQ
I suggest you give it a try. or if you want to attempt to compile libzmq
sources for windows w/ R's mingw, that would be welcome.

MAINTAINERS
Folks,
I just wanted to update the MAINTAINERS file to list myself as a
maintainer for some parts of NUT. Quite a couple of people listed there,
don't seem to be actively involved with NUT anymore (apologies in
advance if you see your name listed here):
- Russell Kroll
- Fabio Di Niro
- Kirill Smelkov
- (Peter Selinger)
I know this has lead to frustration in the past when people tried to
