Mtext doesn't display characters in italic when I use a greek symbol
Following on from my previous mail!
plot(1:10,1:10)
mtext("title", side=3, adj=0, font=3, cex=1.5)
This works as expected and puts the font in italics.
tag <- "A)"
suffix <- "genea::"
plot(1:10,1:10)
mtext(bquote(.(tag) ~ Delta * .(suffix)), side=3, adj=0, font=3,
cex=1.5)
Here, the font isn't in italics, it's normal.

Mixed font type in plot title
Hello useRs,
I'm trying to put italics and regular font into a title and am having
some trouble. The title I would like is " /Q. marilandica/ Volume ".
If I use
main=bquote(italic( "Q. marilandica ", " volume"))
I get just " Q. marilandica " in italics in the title.
If i use
main=bquote(italic( "Q. marilandica ,) volume")
I get "

character variables in substitute()
In trying to create a plotmath expression for plot labeling, such as
R = 6, beta = 15
where I want beta to be the Greek beta and, possibly, R in italics (like one
would get in an explicit expression. The reason for this is that I want to
write a string builder function that takes vectors of variable names and
their values and return a plotmath expression for labeling a plot. One

Correct Computer Modern font in postscript(..) output
Hi,
I'm trying to get the correct font used when generating italic text in an R
grahic. I have a set of labels that print correctly except it seems the
italic text is justr a slanted version of the TeX computer modern normal
font... I'm using R v1.8.1 on Windows XP, and I get the same result if I
build the pdf using Adobe Acrobat or using MikTeX

Italicized greek symbols in PDF plots
I know that this has been asked before in other variations but I just can't
seem to figure out my particular application from previous posts. My
apologies if I have missed the answer to this question somewhere in the
archives. I have indeed looked.

Hi,
I'd like to make the text in my legends italic, but I can't figure out
how to do so. font=3 doesn't work. Googling brings up the possibility
of expression(italic()), which produces italics, but I can't get this
to work with my label data, which is a vector of strings:

plot greek letter in italic
Hi,
Could someone please let me know how to plot greek letters in italic.
text(0,14,expression(italic(rho)[italic(f)])) only plots the f in italic and
text(37,40,expression(italic(rho))) doesn't plot rho in italic.
I have checked demo(plotmath), ?plotmath, FAQ, and the archives
2004-2006 without finding the answer.
I'm using R 2.1.1. and Windows XP.

Mixed font in lattice xyplot lables
Hi all, can anyone suggest a reason as mto why my xlab is plotting this text
at oposite ends of axis. I would like to represent my lable like this:
Moran's I ...but with the I in italics. For some reason they seperate and
position at oposite ends of the axis??

Changing font type within y axis labels
I wish place the following axis label in such a manner that some of the
text is plain and the scientific name is in italics (i.e. a mixture of
two font types)
Using plot:
mtext("Total Landings of Pecten maximus (tonnes)",font,=3, side=2,
line=3)
makes everything italic, but how do I apply the font change to only
"Pecten maximus"?

Greek symbols not generated on quartz device (PR#6708)

After upgrading from Mac OS 10.2.8 to 10.3.3 a program I wrote to generate plots
will no longer display annotated Greek symbols. I'm using parse() and
expression() to convert variable text in to symbols and it would appear that
both functions work reasonably well except that Greek characters

Italicize Greek symbols in axis
Hello there,
Is there any way to italicize Greek symbols such as mu in axis? From the help
files of mathematical anotations: "Note that bold, italic and bolditalic do not
apply to symbols, and hence not to the Greek symbols such as mu which are
displayed in the symbol font. They also do not apply to numeric constants.", it
seems that it cannot be done.

How to embed italic Greek letters in a eps file?
Hi,
I need to add on a plot text containing italic Greek characters using
the function mtext (i.e. I cannot use Hershey vectors). The characters
are nicely displayed when the file is saved as png but not when saved as
eps. See code below as example:

Is there a possibility to change the font-face for a part of the title
of a plot?
For example I have the following...

...and I would like to change the part of the title-string "Deschampsia

Different fonts on the same axis
Hi,
I need to have both italics and standard font on the y axis.
This is my script:
plot(x,y,pch=16,xlab="metric",ylab="species CPUE")
I want species in italics and CPUE in standard text.
Any tips would be appreciated.

Greek fonts
Dear all,
I need Greek text in titles, axis labels, etc. for graphs.
The Graphs are produced in png-format - to use them later on in HTML
pages.
As the output has to be multilingual they are produced in a loop (for
each language).
The strings for the titles, labels ... are stored in a text file (Greek,
English, French...).
The only way I found so far - for Greek - is:

Axes labels, greek letters and spaces
Hello all,
I can't seem to figure how to use a greek character in expression() in
plot() labels without adding a space. So for example below when plotting
this out
x<-1:10
plot(x,x^2, xlab=expression(Chlorophyll~italic(a)~mu~g~cm^-2))
the axis label read as μ g cm^-2 because I have space there with a tilda.
But if I remove the tilda then my units are mug cm^-2.

font question on pdf device
Hi,
I wonder if this is something on my machine locally or R in general.
When I do the following:

I get a plot with a title having uppercase delta followed by "D". But in

Great work!
I've just spent a happy couple of days writing a text file for formatting with
Markdown. The results are phenomenal! It's easy to write, and attractive to
read. I'll try to send a Christmas present to the writer :-)
But when I looked at the perl source, I also found that it was small and
well-structured. Of course, I couldn't resist adding a few things that appealled
to me.
