Font Issues
I recently installed Wine and have been using it to run Delphi executables. Everything is great except the fonts. My forms are made using Arial. I've been trying to install Windows fonts which I downloaded from sourceforge, I installed the cabextract tool but everytime I try to extract the msttcorefonts spec it says failed dependencies the cabextract tools is needed and it's already

Printer Problems
I've just installed a printer on the machine I'm using to run Wine. It was very easy to setup the printer and get it to print, but the margins are all off and I'm having some alignment issues. Does anyone know what the cause of this problem is and what I can do to fix it? The documentation on printing is fairly limited.

LMMs with some variance terms forced constant
Hello,
I have been asked to help perform a meta-analysis with individual- and aggregate-level data. I found a nice article on this, and the idea is easy to understand: use a mixed effects models, but for the studies where there is only aggregate level data, force the variance to be that which was observed. Unfortunately, I am struggling to see how to implement this in R. I am familiar with

Printing options for a network printer
I'm using Wine 1.3.3. with Ubuntu 10.04.
In Ubuntu there is a network printer installed with a Linux printer driver for Konica Minolta Bizhub C203. The printer works perfect. If I print from OpenOffice (Linux-Version), I can choose different options, may be which printer-slot (A4, A3) colour or black, the print quality - same options like a printer installed in WINXP - but that's in

How to print landscape from script in Windows: dev.print(win.print, printer="local printer name", ...) does not accept horizontal=TRUE
This is a windows-specific question.
After generating a plot, I can print from scripts or the command line
with
> dev.print(win.print,printer="local windows printer name")
I would like to print in landscape mode. From the menus, I can
accomplish this by changing the properties of the printer before
clicking "print".
However, I tried adding

Win2K Printer Driver Problems - Ah HA!.
OK we do all the steps in my previous missive and everything looks fine,
landscape, collating the whole works. This is on a Laserjet 4000 with the
latest PCL6 driver.
The firm still has a good number of Laserjet 4s so we dutifully load up the
latest PCL5E driver for the 4 and connect to the 4 on a couple of
workstations.
Everything goes to hell.

Can't print properly through server, only direct client->printer
We are having great problems printing from XP clients through our
Samba server. We are using the Adobe PS driver, and are configured
for automatic driver download/install from the server. Samba is
2.2.8a and part of a Suse OpenExchange server, printing is through
CUPS. Printers are an assortment of different makes of Postscript
(and compatible) lasers.
Basically, we have 'wierd'

Win2K Printer Driver Problems - Hi Jerry!!
Nope, close but no cigar.
With 2.2.6Pre2 Word started to behave itself but Outlook acts as though
landscape is a foreign concept(i.e everything prints portrait regardless of
page setup). Spoolsv also crashes on the Win2K workstations requiring a
manual restart of the spooler service. We will downgrade to 2.2.5 and try
Jerry's patch.
In another message Jerry talks about "running"

Managing two similar Ruby on Rails projects using Subversion
Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a way to manage two very similar Ruby on
Rails projects with minor differences using subversion, so that both
projects could be updated at once? Sometimes only a file in one of the
projects would need to be updated, but often the change applies to both
projects.
Thanks,
Erica

Problem with Landscape printing
I am having problem printing in Landscape mode. I have a program that requires landscape printing. I have a Canon ip2770 attached directly to my machine, and is configured properly in Cups, correct driver and all. OpenOffice works perfectly in Portrait and Landscape printing.
In Wine, Portrait printing works perfectly for my program and the Wine Notepad. However, in both my program and the

Errors when running the local server
Hi all,
I''m running an application on my localhost, but the command "rails server"
behaves very inconsistently. About an hour ago it ran well on another app,
but got errors now.
According to the errors it seemed that the server began to run but the
there is something missing in the library. But I''m very new to Rails so
cannot figure out what do these lines mean:

I've taken the liberty of adding the r-help list back to this email, even though
you sent your reply just to me, so that others may contribute.

Encoding
What''s a good solution for fixing character encoding problems for
compatibility between ascii and utf-8? The database is postgres and
is encoded in utf-8.
Once in awhile there will be a compatibility error from strings from a
webform.
Is there a command to fix this besides using
a_string.force_encoding(''utf-8'')? Even this doesn''t seem to always
work either.

Printer settings don't stick
Experienced programmer, Samba noob, CUPS noob; trying to use Ubuntu
6.06 Server as a print server for Windows XP clients on a home LAN.
Worked through the Howto and got point-and-print to work for my Canon
iP1200 (raw CUPS queue, and I used the Windows XP Add Printer Wizard
to upload the driver to the print$ share).
However, I can't persuade the printer driver to change the ink
cartridge mode

Can't do Landscape with ManualFeed
Hi:
I am haviong problems with Landscape mode on our HP printers (many models).
I am running 2.2.7a on two different servers. One is using the "old style"
printing (using "printer driver file" parameter). The other is using the
newer printing system. It is the same code on both. Both are Solaris
systems. For the old one, the drivers are installed on the client, for the

Boxplots from 4 dimensional array
Hello list members,
I am working with simulated data for landscape pattern analysis. I have
1000 replicates of binary (2 colour) gridded landscapes at each combination
of 9 levels of class proportion and 11 levels of spatial autocorrelation.
The results are stored in an array as follows:
> dim(surfaces)
[1] 38 9 11 1000
The dimensions are defined as follows:
