Desktop effects on KDE?
Hello
Since I prefer KDE I enabled that as my default session. However the
desktop effects don't seem to work there, although they did in Gnome.
Any way to enable them?

Only 1.2x when burning DVD
Hello all
I've got a Matshita dvd-ram uj-830sx that is performing very bad on my
freshly installed CentOS 5. I'm using k3b and get a steady 1.2x which is
way too slow. I think it is supposed to do ~8x and the discs are 16x.
Any suggestions?
(hdparm -c 1 -d 1 /dev/hdc turned on 32-bit IO but only helped slightly)

MySQL repositores
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Are there any repositories for CentOS 5.5 that keep the latest MySQL
versions?
After enabling everything I can think off (CentOS, rpmforge, epel), I'm
still only seeing 5.0.77-4.el5_5.4.
5.5 came out yesterday and 5.1 has been around for a while.
I don't want to manually install from the mysql site for obvious reasons.

transfer to Microsoft Distributed File Service
Hi, list:
Usually, "//server_name/share" is passed to smbclient to do a transfer. However, in case of filing repositores using MS DFS, can smbclient be passed "//domain_name/dfs_share/share_link"? I guess not.
Looking forward to clarification,

How to view djvu files?
Greetings to everyone!
On Fedora I used to use djvulibre package for djvu files, but I cannot seem to find this in any CentOS repositores out there. Google also does not help, nor searching list archives. :-(
I have found the .rpm file for RHEL 4, but when I tried to install it (hoping that it just might work) rpm refused to install with the error:
file /usr/share/mimelnk/image/x-djvu.desktop

Fwd: sftp buggy put command
Hi!
I was tying out the put command with version 6.7_p1 of OpenSSH.
If I use recursive copying, sftp expects the last directory in the
<source> exists in the destination (on the server), otherwise ?Couldn't
canonicalize: No such file or directory?.
I would've taken this to be the expected behavior, but get command does
not have this problem. It makes the destination directory in

Recommended REPO Setup for Desktop on Cos5
CentOS is simply great. I use it as my main desktop. I use VMWare
clients for any "special needs" software. I am struggling a bit with
the plethora of repos and looking for some advice.
Would you opine with detail on the best repo setup for a desktop CentOS 5?
Comments: rpmforge provides fine rpms. kbsingh, google, adobe,

Cascading Queues
Hey Everyone,
Have a couple of questions here..
Scenario 1:
We are working with a client that currently has one support queue with
about 10 agents. They are starting to get pretty long hold times for
their customers and they have requested three queues. Queue 1 will have
a timeout of 4 minutes. After that it will move to Queue 2 which has a
default timeout of 3 minutes. After that we will

Centos 5 - Setting up yum for ATrpms
I think I found one of my setup problems. I followed instructions at: http://atrpms.net/install.html
And now I see that the information shown there to put into yum.conf (that I put into yum.repo.d/atrpms.repo) is only for FC, not for RL5 (thus Centos 5).
What do I use in my atrmps.repo to get it to access the RL5 directories?

problems with yum_priorities on CentOS5/RHEL5
Hello,
Many of you will have read this page, with its (somewhat ambiguous) endorsement
of yum_priorities:
http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories/RPMForge
As I gather has been stated before on the centos list [1], that quote stops
short of outlining what exactly is wrong with yum_priorities (YP) and why it's
the best solution. In fact it goes on to say:

New Feature Request
Hi puppet masters,
while working on my site I came across a requirement that might be
helpful for others as well....
With the aim of confining human errors as much as possible, I
thought that it would be nice to have yum repositories disabled so that
specific repositories could be enabled for certain packages.
This is easily implementable via command-line, but I found that the

Native Instruments Battery3
Hi to all,
I'm trying to run Battery3 with Wine, but I'm experiencing some problems.
1. When I launch Battery (command line) I see these messages:

I suggest you put each package in its own repository, because our R tooling
(e.g. Travis CI, etc.) works best if you do that. This is quite easy to do

Thanks to Duncan, Henrik and Henrik, Brian, and G?bor:
????? I created a local copy of the new GitHub version using the
following:
git clone https://sbgraves237:mypassword at github.com/sbgraves237/Ecdat.git
????? That worked in the sense that I got a local copy.? However, after
I rolled the version number and did "git commit" on the DESCRIPTION
files, my "git push"

Dear All,
I understand the excitement surrounding a service like Asterisk, and how
easy it is to jump in and ask a heap of questions. I also know how
frustrating it can be dealing with a 200+ post per day mailing list as one

Hi, Ott et al.:
????? What's the best way to get "Travis CI" to build and test the two
packages, Ecdat and Ecfun, that have long been combined in the Ecdat
project?
????? Following Ott's advice and studying studying Wickham's "R
Packages" (http://r-pkgs.had.co.nz/), I was able to configure RStudio so

redraw priorities
Hey,
I've recently investigated problems Swfdec has when running
cpu-intensive Flash files and could need some suggestions on how to
best fix it. There should be other apps that have had the same problem
after all. During a run of Swfdec (either stand-alone or as part of a
browser), there's the following events happening:
1. write audio
2. user interaction
3. repaint
4. advance the state

Controlling Outbound traffic...alternative to dsl_qos_queue
Hi , this probably was asked many times before , but here it goes..
Until now i was using dsl_qos_queue - http://www.sonicspike.net/software/
Which limits outbound traffic and does packet priorites with iptables
using MARKed packets.. works very well , I run a ftpserver + webserver so
it''s usefull to set these 2 with lowest priority and my multiplayer gaming
running on certain UDP ports
