Audio CD problem on laptop VGN-SZ61MN
Is there anyone out there who has installed FreeBSD on the above Sony laptop ? Both ''cat filename > /dev/dsp0.0'' or ''vlc cdda:///dev/acd0@1 are OK. If I run ''cdcontrol -f /dev/acd0 play'', there is no sound. But the output of ''cdcontrol -f /dev/acd0 status audio'' is alright. (same behaviour for cd0 instead of acd0) And the output

Which repositores?
Hello all I'm new to RHEL/CentOS so I'm wondering what repositories people add/enable to get all the extras they want? Especially multimedia stuff. I tried to enable [contrib] but that didn't seem to be available (yet). I then added rpmforge and atrpms which seem to work. However I've read that atrpms may wreak havoc on my installation; is it best to keep it disabled? What about

Problem installing from CD
Good morning, I hate to bother everyone again, but I'm having some more trouble. I have a new machine with an MSI RS480M2-IL motherboard (ATI Xpress200 chipset) and a Hammer DVD Writer (shows up as a Matshita DVD-RAM SW-9585). I get the CD to start (in text mode - don't know why I can't do VGA or better), and it asks me What type of media contains the packages to be installed.

Installing 4.3 from CD
Howdy, I hate to bother everyone with something so simple, but I've beat my head bloody on this one. I have a new machine with an MSI RS480M2-IL motherboard (ATI Xpress200 chipset) and a Hammer DVD Writer (shows up as a Matshita DVD-RAM SW-9585). Anyway, I downloaded the CentOS 4.3 iso's and burned them to CD. When I boot the new machine it says: Boot CD: DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT

App for burning CD from MP3s
I would like to be able to make an audio CD directly from some mp3 files I have. I know that isn't the best way due to the lossy nature of the MP3 format, but that's ok for this purpose. K3b is supposed to be able to do this, but I got an unsupported file type error when I tried this. I installed the python-mad decoder that is listed in the k3b document, but I don't see how to get

Problem burning DVD+RW discs
Good Day-- I've been backing up my essential stuff to DVD+R discs for quite a while with no trouble at all. Last week I tried backing up to a DVD+RW with no trouble at all. This week, when trying to re-write my weekly backup, CD/DVD Creator told me it could not write to the disc because it was read-only. Is there a bug in CD/DVD Creator or am I doing something incorrectly. Obviously,

CD burning issues & questions
I have been having some strange results trying to burn CDs under CentOS. I don't think they are hardware related because I have had some success, in fact most of this usually works. I use k3b for most of my CD and DVD writing - it seems to work fairly well (well, except for wrecking my installation a few weeks ago when it crashed my installation and I had to reinstall to get it back, but

how to ignore rows missing arguments of a function when creating a function?
Hi, I am relatively new to R; when creating functions, I run into problems with missing values. I would like my functions to ignore rows with missing values for arguments of my function) in the analysis (as for example is the case in STATA). Note that I don't want my function to drop rows if there are missing arguments elsewhere in a row, ie for variables that are not arguments of my

HEADSUP: USB da(4) quirks disabled for 4.9 and 5.2
If you have any of the devices listed below, please test with a recent -stable or -current. They will stop working in 4.9 and 5.2 although old behavior can _temporarily_ be enabled by adding "options DA_OLD_QUIRKS" to your kernel config. If I don't hear from anyone, they'll be going away permanently after the releases. -Nate #ifdef DA_OLD_QUIRKS /* Below a list of

Problem burning dvd's
I have a question on burning dvd iso's, using k3b. I have a sony dvd rw, and I've burned cd's with now problem, including iso's. The problem I'm having is, when I burn a dvd iso, k3b says it's a success, but then when I re-insert the disk, the drive tries to read the disk, but the read/write light just stays on, and the drive can't access the disk. Am I leaving a step

Jigdoes of CentOS 4.4 and 5.0 i386/x86_64 CD/DVD available.
I've gone through the trouble (after some 10 rounds I finally have something I'm happy with) and generated jigdo/template files for CentOS 5.0 iso's (CD/DVD i386/x86_64) (and CentOS 4.4 while I was at it: CD/DVD/ServerCD SRPMS/i386/x86_64). (and I started on this before the thread about creating the DVD's from the CD's started ;-) ) They are available at:

making scatterplot easier to read
Dear R users, do you know an easy way (other than star plot) of making several points laying one over another visible? Is it any simple way of increasing such "multipoint" symbols - or shifting their positions randomly to make several points in one place visible?
