Running DeLorme Street Atlas
I have had a lot of problems with my XP system recently so I would like to convert over to Linux (Ubuntu) and the use of Street Atlas 2006 is the only thing really standing in my way. I installed Wine 1.0 and installed Street Atlas using it. SA brings up the basic map programs but not everything works correctly yet. I have observed the following error messages so far:

Delorme Street Atlas 8 and ISO images
Being lazy, I'd just as soon not be swapping CDs in and out of the CD drive to use Street Atlas 8. So I slurped the SA 8 data CD into an ISO image, which I then mount as a loopback device. I created a symlink in ~/.wine/dosdevices, s: (and it took me a while to get the syntax for that right :-). winefile and fn.exe (http://www.charlescurley.com/fn.html) have no problems with the iso image. I

Street Atlas 8.0 Extractor
I mentioned earlier that I had DeLorme Street Atlas 8.0 working on wine. It comes with a separate program, the extractor. This will pull parts of the map CD and store them locally so that the main program does not have to refer to the CD for those parts of the map. I had one problem which I overcame: it was looking for h:\refnc. I have no idea why it was looking on h:, as the CD-ROM is on d: and

Running Delorme 2006 under WINE
February 10, 2008 I am running Delorme Street Atlas USA 2006 Plus under 32 bit Kubuntu 7.10 using WINE 0.9.54. [Q] Finale, Delrome Street Atlas, Real Flight G3
Hello. I found out that the new Windows Vista requires too much for my notebook computer. Although my Thinkpad R32 is quite usable and pretty fast, Windows Vista requires 128MB of VRAM and so on. So, I am thinking about replacing the Windows with the Linux. However, there are three critical programs I need to use on the Linux. 1. Delrome Street Atlas 2006 with the Earthmate GPS 2. Finale -

VVDQ : GPS/topo-map software?
Can anyone please hazard a guess at an estimate for a poor old squirrel hunter with a Very Very Dumb Question? Is wine likely to be able to install and run any of the proprietary GPS-interfacing topo map programs (DeLorme, Garmin, Mapquest, et al.) at any roughly predictable future date? The season opens in three weeks, my GPS (Garmin's etrex vista) is full -- and it still contains road maps

Programs using GDI and timers...
Does anyone know how to get programs using GDI and timers to update the display to work smoothly? I am using DeLorme street atlas on wine 20041108, and the real-time update of the screen does not work. The program seems to talk properly to the GPS, the data comes back, but the screen does not track when the GPS is moved. If I click on a button forcing the screen to update, the GPS is

Wine on Fedora Core 4: Street Atlas 8 & wineconsole issues
I just did a fresh installation of Fedora Core 4, using my home directories from FC3, including my .wine. In the FC3 environment, I had used winetools to install. I did not want to do a fresh installation of wine, just use an RPM that would work. Alas, I had to fall back to 20041201. SA 8: I installed and uninstalled wine-20050524-1fc3winehq.athlon.rpm, wine-20050310-1fc3winehq.athlon.rpm

Street Atlas 8.0?
Hi, Lotus Notes 5.05 works great! Thanks....now, has any one gotten Street Atlas 8.0 to run with wine? I get the starting splash screen from SA8.0 and a bunch of fixme:font messages (I don't think I care about these?). Then I get both a Windows box stating "Failed to create empty document." and get "err:msg:DispatchMessageA BeginPaint not called on WM_PAINT for hwnd

Copy data from XP to same app under Wine??
With snarls and curses and gnashing of teeth, I still keep one laptop and one dual-bootable PC hard drive with XPProSP2 installed. (Everything else is Fedora 10.) I do so purely for one class of apps, proprietary map software. Wine can now install and run at least one, and the most important, of the four suites of such apps that I have. (That one is Garmin MapSource, including Topo US

Samba and W2K printer issues
I posted this query a couple of days ago and received no responses. SInce that time, some other info has come to light that I thought would be useful to helping to solve this porblem. My network consists of a firewall machine networked with a SuSE 7.2 workstation and a Windows 2000 workstation. My smb.conf file is below: # Samba config file created using SWAT # from 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1) # Date:

xl create bug on first-attempt with passthrough
Hello, I recently swapped some components, and rebuilt my system. Changes to the configuration: - Wheezy Beta 1 > Wheezy Beta 2 - Kernel 3.4.9 > Kernel 3.4.11 I have tested the new Xen 4.2 stable, and Xen unstable revision 25777, both are giving me the same error so I do not believe it is related to a change in Xen. The first attempt to pass a PCI device after booting the system

Printing via Wine
Hi all, I am working hard at moving all of my desktop to windows. Two apps I have yet to find good replacements for are a CD Label program (CD Stomper) and DeLorme STreet Atlas 6. Both install fine and seem to work great. Except when it comes to printing. We have three printers, a large networked ps printer, and two hp's. We use lpr and have all three working with no issues in linux. We

Poblems writing to home directory

While he has no problems writing to his home directory using samba 1, he gets the following error writing to the same home directory using samba 2: A sharing violation occurred while accessing H:\test.SA6 I have verified

How to make Garmin see Garmin?
I have Garmin's topo map software for the USA, 2008 version, and also a very old MapSource MetroGuide (ca. 1998) installed under wine. All is well -- except the biggest thing. Neither program can detect the etrex vista nor the rino 120, using Garmin's cables. The topo couldn't before I added the road maps,so that's not the trouble. Both, on the other (<shudder>
