AGI script that uses google's text to speech engine
Hello,
I have written an AGI script for asterisk that uses google translate for
text to speech synthesis.
It supports a variety of different languages, local caching for the voice
data and wideband audio.
The voice in most languages is female and the quality of the synthesized
speech is very high.
More info about the script can be found here:

Looking for Speech Recognition (ASR) suggestions
Is it correct that the unimrcp is the best approach for Asterisk and ASR/TTS?
Could anyone provide pros/cons for the various ASR options for Asterisk?
We need the ability for very large grammars (over 100,000 options). Because of this, my initial thought is Nuance or Lumenvox. Does this sound correct?
Have a great day!

Looking for Speech Recognition (ASR) suggestions
Hello Luca,
Thank you for your response. I?m familiar with speech recognition and TTS, but new to MRCP.
Yes, the 100k options is used for names in a directory listing.
In the pre-MRCP support, Nuance ASR used API events/methods for the application to tell ASR when the prompt was playing and when it stopped. If ASR detected speech, it would signal an event so we would stop playing the prompt.

Zork and Asterisk
http://www.boingboing.net/2006/06/05/play_zork_by_phone.html
Let me preface this idea with one comment: I don't have the time to
do this - I don't even have time to eat these days. But someone out
there has the cycles to do this... and it would be very cool.
OK, so now Zork is attached to Asterisk, but using the
less-than-clear Festival engine. There are beta tests of the

Text to Speech - Someone needs to do this
Why hasn't someone found 50 people who sound alike, put them in sound
studios and record the 10,000 most commonly used words. You would all
differnent forms of the 1,000 most words, i.e. leading, trailing, question
etc.
You can synthesize the other 0.05% when you run into them. With hard drives
so big, processors so fast and EXT3 that can handle 30,000+ files in a
single directory that

Text to Speech In R
Dear all,
Excuse me for my searching skills: I just couldn't figure out how to do any simple text to speech in R console.
What I want to do is, out put simple English words or sentences to speaker as voice. No fanciness. For example, I want the R console to speak "Hello world" or "Howdy".
Do you know of any related function/package? Thanks,
- Alex
