AWS/EC2 server selection
Still a shared resource. I don't see the benefit.
Even beyond the shared resource bit, with the kind of IO you are likely
to be pushing, you will want a decent NAS with lots of spindles and
fibre channel to your hosts.

AWS/EC2 server selection
Amazon instances are shared resources. I wouldn't want to count on
timing or disk throughput, and you can't just ask them to do "ssd" - its
a virtual machine! 500 simultaneous recordings is a hefty load, and I
would want to know that the underlying hardware is dedicated to the task.
Sure you see lots of posts about hosting asterisk and/or freeswitch on
EC2. I have done it

AWS/EC2 server selection
Hi Jeff
Are you aware of any challenges of hosting it on AWS? It will help me to
work out alternate plan. Is there any recommendation? Should I split it
to multiple instances and balance traffic across multiple small server
instances? I can use Kamailio to balance traffic.
I see many posts referring to AWS deployment. Please help me to choose
AWS server instance.

AWS/EC2 server selection
Hi
I plan to host Asterisk instances on AWS/EC2 servers.
Requirement is to run asterisk instance with transcoding (g.729 + g.711) and full recording. Number of concurrent calls expected are 500+. 2 instances will be configured for 100% redundancy. Heart beat will be used to determine active instance.
How should I choose EC2 instance?
How many vCPU, RAM should be selected? I am assuming that

Why use Amazon? With that kind of load I would want dedicated servers.
Call Rackspace or Softlayer.

11.4.0: iax packets lost by amazon ec2
I have 11.4.0 on an Amazon EC2 instance. SIP works fine, but I can't get
iax to work.
I've opened 4569 in the EC2 Security Group.
I'm using the zoiper client. Using tcpdump I can see the zoiper packets
coming in on 4569, but nothing shows on the asterisk cli.

Re: 5, 000 concurrent calls system rollout question
Why is using ulaw or alaw an unlikely scenario? I wouldn't use anything but
ulaw\alaw. The Bells can compete on price and will if they have to. Where
they CAN'T compete is quality. If there were something better than 711, I'd
offer that. Well, there is 722, but not many things support it.

Asterisk on the Cloud With a Click - pre-built Asterisk Amazon EC2 instance
Asterisk-users,
Our two-part tutorial explaining how to use VoIP and Asterisk in
Amazon?s Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) has garnered quite a bit of
attention. But due to the time required to complete the many steps
needed to get up and running, some of you have asked if it is possible
to create a much simpler to install ?pre-built? Asterisk EC2 ?instance.?
In short, yes it is. And we?ve

I'm not able to register Softphone(X-lite) in asterisk(Which is installed in EC2 Cloud).
Akhilesh,
I have implemented several ec2 instances with both sip and iax2 and have no
problems with xlite or hard phones. Have you already opened the ports in
the vpc security group on the Amazon side? Let me know is I can help.

EC2 bootstrap: chicken and egg problem with login as ec2-user and sudoers "requiretty"
Hi,
I was previously using an EC2 AMI where i was logging as root, and i
could bootstrap nodes.
I am now using Amazon AMIs ( http://aws.amazon.com/fr/amazon-linux-ami
) and they require login as ec2-user.
The problem is that if i run puppet node bootstrap --login ec2-user,
it will detect it and run my install script as with sudo, which is
fine, but sudo will not run it because it is configured by

[Infra announce] : Speeding-up yum updates from inside AWS/EC2
Tomorrow, I intend to push a change to mirrorlist.centos.org nodes that
will have a (good) impact to CentOS EC2 instances running from AWS network.
Thanks to AWS, sponsoring the required backend infra for this to happen,
our mirrorlist nodes will redirect yum/dnf operations internally in the
EC2/AWS network.
What does that mean for you ?
- faster updates (due to Cloudfront caching, and so most

What Amazon EC2 AMI do you recommend?
I''m looking at using EC2 for hosting deploying my Rails site. The
reasons for the decision are these: I want something that will work
for 10 users, but with capacity to expand to 10,000,000 if needed.
EC2 starts at $15/month (before bandwidth) which seems reasonable even
for a site in its infancy. And the costs seem to scale up well, along
with the capacity. There isn''t the
