tomcat still sees jvm version 1.4.2 in Cent OS 5
i chose to install tomcat during the OS install as well as java....however, since I needed to use a different jvm, i used the method described in http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/JavaOnCentOS for Sun jdk 1.5.0_13 and it worked fine as I can tell, as using the alternatives --config java command, i see both 1.4.2 and 1.5.0 versions and choosing the 1.5.0 version yields the right version when doing a

Tomcat5 with Oracle/Sun jdk on CentOS 5.8
I know this question could be asked on tomcat or possibly other mailing lists, but I'm hoping I can get some help here instead of joining yet another list. I'm running tomcat5 on CentOS 5.8. I'm trying to setup Oracle/Sun java rather than icedtea. I've installed the latest jdk 1.7 and setup alternatives on centos for java and javac: # java -version java version

java bindings 1.0.0 - jni.h not found
Hi all, I am new to Xapian and want to use it with Java. In order to do that I tried to compile the Java bindings. I set XAPIAN_CONFIG and invoked "configure". However "./configure --with-java" exits with an error. Point of failure: checking for jni.h... no checking for jni.h in /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/include... no checking for jni.h in

Perils of R_LIBRARY_PATH
The R front end sets (via etc/ldpath) R_LIBRARY_PATH, including R_JAVA_LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Perhaps the later is too obliging, as I've just be caught by it in a way that took me a while to track down. One of my machines has a Sun jdk1.6.0* JDK installed, and as a result we have ${R_JAVA_LD_LIBRARY_PATH=${JAVA_HOME}/lib/amd64/server:${JAVA_HOME}/lib/amd64: ${JAVA_HOME}/../lib/amd64} What I

Makefile vs Makevars vs configure
Apologies in advance for the long post. I'm currently using a Makefile to build my shared library. Pursuant to the R-exts manual, I'd like to switch to a Makevars file or a configure file if necessary. Having never used these types of make utilities before, I'm a bit lost. My package is quite simple. It only has one source file and one header: excelpoi.cpp excelpoi.h The reason I

Installing Java 1.4.2
For scalix on Centos the Scalix forum provides instructions for convincing Scalix that Centos is Redhat: http://www.scalix.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=516&highlight=centos I am up to the point of getting Java JDK1.4.2 installed. r-cran-rjava dependencies on debian jesse, library(rJava) fails when default-jre is missing
Hi, Dirk Eddelbuettel advised me to write here. Here is my original letter to him: I would like to enquire about package r-cran-rjava on Debian jesse. It seems that if default-jre package is not installed, but openjdk-7-jre is installed, then library(rJava) in R fails. I?ve been bitten by this today and I wonder whether this an issue of mine, or is this a possible bug. My server admin used

So nearly there, but can't install rJava
Thanks Dirk and Enrico, First clarification: I'm in this mess because I'm trying to run R 3.5.2 within Debian stable (9/"sretch") using the stretch-cran35 repository. That uses and provides r-api-35 but many of the packages depend upon r-api-3. As Johannes said a day or so back, the way around this is to use install.packages() in R to get the packages you want. That leads you
