libvirtd vs XDG_RUNTIME_DIR
I ran into an odd problem today. I wanted to share it here in the
hopes of maybe saving someone else some lost time.
When you run libvirtd as an unprivileged user (e.g., if you target
qemu:///session from a non-root account), then libvirt will open a
unix domain socket in one of two places:
- If XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is defined, then inside
$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/libvirt/libvirt-sock
- If

[PATCH] handle: Improve error messaging if XDG_RUNTIME_DIR path does not exist.
If an environment variable such as XDG_RUNTIME_DIR or one of the
tmpdirs or cachedir is set to a non-existent directory, improve the
error message that the user will see so that (where possible) it
includes the environment variable or API call.
This is still not bullet-proof because it's hard to display the
environment variable if it is LIBGUESTFS_TMPDIR or
LIBGUESTFS_CACHEDIR, but the main

RemoteForward and dynamically allocated listen port
Specifying a RemoteForward of 0:example.com:1234 dynamically allocates
the listen port on the server, and then reports it to ... the client!
Where it is practically useless. Was this someone's idea of a joke?
Presumably not--there are some technical obstacles to reporting it to
the remote process. I'd like to help solve that problem.
The natural way to me would be to extend the syntax

Socket forwarding with non existent remote directories
Hi openssh dev's,
I love an truly appreciate the Socket forwarding feature in OpenSSH 6.7.
i use it for forwarding the socket of GnuPG's agent
(that handles the secret stuff) to remote machines.
Usecase:
======
I am a remote worker and use gnupg agent forwarding
to connect to our company infrastructure that makes heavy use
of PGP encryption while keeping my key out of the hands of

Does ssh need sendfd in pledge() call?
Hi,
I posted this question to the OpenBSD bugs list last week, however
I have had no reply and it was suggested on IRC that I post here
instead. So I must apologise if this is not appropriate.
For a reference here is my previous post:

I am running OpenBSD 6.5-stable (also tested on -current). When I
ssh somewhere I get a sig abort

Auto-Reconnect After Sleep
Hi,
Is there a way to have my connection re-established when I log back in?
When I first log in I run a map drive script that mounts my shares using
'gio mount "smb://$DC/$mount"' AND 'ln -s
"$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/gvfs/smb-share:server=$DC,share=$mount"
"$HOME/mnt/$mount" so that it shows up in nautilus as a network drive and I
have it mapped to my local mnt

Re: [PATCH v2 4/5] appliance: Added filesystem_walk command
Hi,
some of the comments for patch #3 apply also for this one, namely:
- wrapping of commit message
- indentation of forward declarations
- usage of XDR deserialization from guestfs_protocol.h

Making remote access to qemu://session easier?
This is frustrating:
$ export LIBVIRT_DEFAULT_URI=qemu+ssh://remotehost/session
$ virsh list
error: failed to connect to the hypervisor
error: no valid connection
error: Operation not supported: Connecting to session instance without socket path is not supported by the ssh connection driver
Has there been any thought given to making this easier? It seems that
having a simple helper

[PATCH v2 1/2] launch: add internal helper for socket paths creation
Introduce an internal helper to create paths for sockets -- will be
useful for changing later the logic for placing sockets.
Futhermore, check that the length of sockets won't overflow the buffer
for their filenames.

[PATCH v2 2/2] New API: get-sockdir
Introduce a new read-only API to get a path where to store temporary
sockets: this is different from tmpdir, as we need short paths for
sockets (due to sockaddr_un::sun_path), and it is either
XDG_RUNTIME_DIR if set, or /tmp; adapt guestfs_int_create_socketname
to create sockets in that location.
Furthermore, print sockdir and XDG_RUNTIME_DIR in test-tool for
debugging.
