Disable rm on sftp
Hi,
Thanks a lot for this great software :)
I'm trying to do something to secure my server. I need to disable removing
file or removing directory using SFTP. In other words, the user can only
write, move but not delete the file. This will be used to store logs so, I
need to make sure once the logs written to my server the user cannot remove
it.
I tried doing this by changing the code of

[adejong@debian.org: Bug#531639: rsync can end up deleting unrelated files when a directory is replaced by a symlink]
Please see the included debian bug report, where during a local transfer
rsync (3.0.3) follows a symlink in the destination to delete a file in
the source tree. At least 3.0.5 works correctly in this regard; however
I can't find a changelog entry that's directly related to this.
Would it be possible to extract the diff that fixes this so that the
3.0.3 version in debian stable might be

--delete not working
Hi guys , i need some help. I am trying to make a full sync of two of
my servers. But i noticed a very odd thing.
If i create a directory , for example
/usr/include/SOME_FOLDER/some_file on server2
when i do :
root at server1 #$ rsync -avhH --exclude proc/ --exclude sys/ --exclude
dev/ / root at server2:/
after the whole sync, the
/usr/include/SOME_FOLDER/some_file will still be in

Dovecot and Quotas
Is there anything that can be done so that when users IMAP to their
inbox and have reached their filesystem quota, that they can still
DELETE their mail? They can login, but when they go to delete/expunge
this is the error I get in syslog. I have tried mail_read_mmaped to yes
and no, and same result.

ANNOUNCE: cifs-utils release 5.6 is ready for download
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Time for another cifs-utils release!
Nothing terribly earth shattering here. Some distros (like Fedora) are
moving krb5 credcaches out of /tmp by default. Users of these distros
will definitely want to upgrade.
Highlights:
* Fixes for mounting with '/' in usernames with sec=krb5
* Support for DIR: type krb5 ccaches
* support for

Rsync error main.c
Rsync Ver: 2.5.5
OS: HPUX-11
Hello List,
I'm using rsync with ssh with this command line:
rsync -avz -e ssh some_file user-b@hostname-b:/home/user-b
Which does work, however I get the following error output:
rsync error: protocol incompatibility (code 2) at main.c(578)
Since the file does transfer, is the error output just some sort of bug? I
looked in the maillist archives, and I found

NFS quota: hard or soft
Yes. I could spend more time testing this myself or examining the code.
It looks to me that, with fs quota, dovecot refuses to store a mail
(e.g. when the client moves a mail from one IMAP folder to another)
if the user is beyond his soft limit.
Is this correct/intended? Knowing nothing about the IMAP Quota
extension, I would have expected that being in grace was OK. At
least, this is what

unplausible "no space left on deivce"
Hello all,
I recently ran over following issue ( the description is out of necessity
bit lengthy):
I have corrupted partition with ext3 filesystem oni t, fortunately enough
partition was mirrored, so that I was able to dd the the mirroed partiton
to the file like this:
dd bs=512 if=/dev/<where_the_mirrored_partition_is> of=some_file
and write the content to the primary partition like this:

quota rules for mail users
Dear All,
Is it possible to make quota rules under $HOME/Maildir/* mailboxes with
a specific command such as 'edquota' when the first email arrives at the
$HOME/Maildir/{new,cur,tmp} of a user. In the below example, the <UserB>
is the one who gets an email for the first time.
edquota -p <UserA> <UserB>
---man edquot---
-p, --prototype=protoname

Disc quota exceeded when attempting to write session
Hi All,
When trying to write sessions file, I''m getting disc quota errors.
Looking into the sessions folder, I see:
-rw------- 1 www www 188 Aug 2 21:03 ruby_sess.d39a2c77b4750b72
-rw-r--r-- 1 www www 0 Aug 2 21:03 ruby_sess.d39a2c77b4750b72.tmp
I''m guessing the the tmp should not be there, as it does not show on
my dev setup.
I''m using rails (1.1.1)

ZFS+NFS+refquota: full filesystems still return EDQUOT for unlink()
We have been using ZFS for user home directories for a good while now.
When we discovered the problem with full filesystems not allowing
deletes over NFS, we became very anxious to fix this; our users fill
their quotas on a fairly regular basis, so it''s important that they
have a simple recourse to fix this (e.g., rm). I played around with
this on my OpenSolaris box at home, read around

Samba/Win_NT mapped drive problem
I am having a problem with Samba 2.2.2 mapped drives under Windows
NT.
Specifically, the problem is that users cannot either read directly from
(by double-clicking on a file), nor directly write to the root of a mapped
drive. Users CAN however create a folder in the root of their mapped
drives and then read and write files to that folder okay, and can also
copy files from the root of their

Dear wine gurus,
I'm trying to run a program installed like this:
/usr/local/program/program.exe
which also contains a subdirectory:
/usr/local/program/subdir/
with some files. When typing:
$ wine /usr/local/program/program.exe
I get an error mesage like:
"File \subdir\some_file not found!"
The problem can be solved by putting
the subdir to the root directory of the
