OSSH 2.5.2p2: Why is /usr/local/ put into the include & lib p aths under Solaris?
But the main question hasn't been answered: Why is /usr/local placed before
user-specified paths? Hypothetical example: You want to link against OpenSSL
0.96 for OpenSSH, but /usr/local contains 0.95, which is needed for
something else. (Assume it comes binary only on Solaris for the sake of
argument...)

unable to load shared library '/usr/local/lib/R/modules//R_X11.so'
Hi,
I downloaded a binary version of R for my Solaris 10 box (from http://www.sunfreeware.com/programlistsparc10.html#R), and everything looked fine during the installation. However, I got a "X11 module cannot be loaded" error when I attempted to save a graph to be a png file. Does it look like a problem of the Solaris box or a problem of the installation (missing library file)?

Remove /usr/local as implicit include/library search path
I am afraid that removing /usr/local will increase the number of support
queries, OTOH I see your point.

Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libquadmath.0.dylib
Hi all,
I tried to load a package which includes a shared object on one of my Macs,
and I got an error message below, which suggests that the file "
libquadmath.0.dylib" is missing in the /usr/local/lib folder. On my other
Mac however, I have no problem loading the package, and the file "
libquadmath.0.dylib" is in the /usr/local/lib folder. I wonder where this
