local APIC error 0x40
Running FreeBSD 8.3 -- and updating sources on a daily base and building everything -- I found a new APIC/ACPI problem introduced in the past week. I have a Toshiba Satellite U205 with an Intel Core Duo (not a Core 2). It used to work fine with both cores but then sometime in on the road to BSD 8.0 the machine began hanging. So I added to /boot/loader.conf hint.apic.0.disabled="1"

Time just moved backwards error even with ntpd
Scenario: server PC abruptly switched off due to power cable problems (an UPS cannot solve this issue), so during shutdown Linux was not able to resinchronize the system clock. After a few hours the server come back on, Linux booted and the services (ntpd, dovecot and many others) started But the system clock was 45 minutes ahead, so: Jan 19 11:13:39 gw ntpd[2112]: synchronized to LOCAL(0),

FreeBSD PVH guest support
Hello, The Xen community is working on a new virtualization mode (or maybe I should say an extension of HVM) to be able to run PV guests inside HVM containers without requiring a device-model (Qemu). One of the advantages of this new virtualization mode is that now it is much more easier to port guests to run under it (as compared to pure PV guests). Given that FreeBSD already supports

Cursor lag: Mac High Sierra, R 3.4.2, Macbook Air 2017
Hi, I'm running High Sierra on a new "2017" Macbook Air. I upgraded R from a previous version (3.2 or 3.3 ?) and now there is a huge lag on the curser in the R command window itself and in script files. I am not using RStudio. There is a page on GitHub detailing the same problem currently when using Rstudio. I have no idea whether this problem is related or not. Cheers Kevin

File system issue since upgrading macOS to High Sierra
Hi, Since upgrading macOS High Sierra, R will stop responding, requiring me to force R to quit, when I am trying to open a script using File -> Open Document. I don't have any problems opening files by double-clicking them in Finder. Sometimes R gives me the message in the attached screenshot: Any suggestions? -Rich -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was

Sierra destroyed my KDE Wine Menu
Something curious happen last night. Loaded an old game by Sierra - After Dark Games. Prior to loading the game, the Wine menu was fine, yet after, all that was left was the 'Program' directory. The links to utilities were gone. I suspect this was due to Sierra's menu creation routine loading a Sierra menu at the "root" of the menu. I was able to rebuild the menu under

Managing Sieve on macOS 10.12 Sierra with Server 5.2?
I don?t know if this is considered OT, but dovecot has support for sieve. I had a rule set running under Mac OS X 10.8.5 Server 2.2.5 which I did maintain by hand on the server because a while before Mac OS X Server had dropped support for Squirrelmail. Now I wonder if there is a decent way to get sieve running again on macOS 10.12 Sierra with Server 5.2 G

Panic : bad pte
Hello, There it is, all my computers on FreeBSD 9.1-RELEASE had panic. I can just say there is a problem in the 9.1-RELEASE because I had no panic before. What afraid me is that my production server also panic'ed a few days ago, fortunately it does not appears so often. This is a panic that happened on my desktop computer, with a graphic card. The crash usually appears when X starts. GNU

openssh build failure on High Sierra (10.13.2)
Back in January/March of 2017, it was the case that building openssh with the latest openssl on MacOS 10.12.x (Sierra) was a bit of a bother. I could build everything with Xcode, but the resulting sshd segfaulted upon invocation (see the archives). So I built gcc 6.3 and used that to build openssh 7.x on Sierra. As long as machines stayed on 10.12.x, all was fine. Under High Sierra, the Xcode

BSafe toolkits for implementing RSA public key algorithm
Has anyone had any experience with any of the BSafe toolkits that are available and contain support for the RSA public key algorithms? I would like to use one of RSA's toolkits in a port of a Windows OpenSSH client that I am working on, in order to avoid any licensing issues from RSA. Can anyone recommend a good toolkit? I understand that there a number of them, such as BSafe SSL-C, SLPlus,

CPU1 never used despite HTT?
Hi, I am running a Xeon with hyperthreading support. Until last week's HTT modifications, according to ps(1) and top(1) both logicals CPUs were in use. (Processes in CPU0 and CPU1 state; "C" column showing "0" or "1".) This has changed with a recent -STABLE kernel which includes last week's changes to HTT (removing "options HTT"). I am only seeing

building openssh with openssl-fips: cygwin can't find libcrypto
I am almost done here... I was able to symlink the headers to get past the opensslv header files, but the build process fails because openssl didn't build libcypto. The problem is that when building openssl with fips, it doesn't not appear to build libcrypto, and changing anything in the ./Configure makes in non-FIPs compliant. Is there something I can do here to get a FIPs compliant
