Bridge not forwarding multicast traffic to the tap interface
I have a Debian 8 64-bit machine set up as a server and apt-got the tinc package. I configured tinc as a bridge and everything seems normal except that the tunnel does not forward multicast traffic. I used tcpdump to examine the br0, eth0 and tap interfaces. I could see multicast packets on both br0 and eth0, but there is no such packet present on the tap interface. I don't quite know why

yes, ip_forward was turned on. iptables is defaulted to ACCEPT policy on all the 3 chains. KVM-Docker-Networking using TAP and MACVLAN
Hi everyone! I have the following requirement: I need to connect a set of Docker containers to a KVM. The containers shall be isolated in a way that they cannot communicate to each other without going through the KVM, which will act as router/firewall. For this, I thought about the following simple setup (as opposed to a more complex one involving a bridge with vlan_filtering and a seperate VLAN

transport multicast traffic through a gre tunnel.
Hi All, As it is written in the "Linux 2.4 Advanced Routing HOWTO" GRE tunneling has some benefits compare to IP-in-IP, on of it benefits is the ability to transport multicast traffic through a GRE tunnel. I used the mrouted daemon and I know that the daemon supports tunneling but I don''t want to use its tunneling method. Assuming I have gre0 as my tunneling device I did the

multicast traffic no longer working after reboot
Hi, today a couple of Hypervisors got restarted due to a power outage. While the systems and the VMs on the are running fine multicast traffic between the guests is no longer working. I generate multicast udp packet using iperf in the guest and check on the host using tcpdump: tcpdump vnet0 => multicast packets are visible tcpdump vlanbr8 => multicast packets are visible tcpdump em1.8

multicast over GRE tunnel
I need to send multicast traffic through a GRE tunnel between two Linux routers. The tunnel works for normal IP packets, but I can''t see how to make it work for multicast. Could it be that the TTL on the pacets is set to 1, so it will not be forwarded? -- Met vriendelijke groet / with kind regards, Guus Sliepen <guus at tinc-vpn.org>

Multicast and receive filtering in TUN/TAP
Yesterday while fixing xoff stuckiness issue in the TUN/TAP driver I got a chance to look into the multicast filtering code in there. And immediately realized how terribly broken & confusing it is. The patch was originally done by Shaun (CC'ed) and went in without any proper ACK from me, Dave or Jeff. Here is the original ref
