yum "Requires" yum-plugin-fastestmirror; why?
In another recent thread,[1] someone was having trouble with the yum-plugin-fastestmirror feature, so I suggested he remove it, since it?s just a plugin and should therefore be optional. He reported that it couldn?t be removed due to package dependencies.
I investigated further and found that this also affects CentOS 5.11 and CentOS 7.2. (The OP is on CentOS 6.8.) So, I reported it as a bug

yum-fastestmirror inconsistent exclude behavior
Hi guys,
I'm trying to figure out something wherein excluded repositories for
the yum-fastestmirror plugin are still being used by the system.
To illustrate:
[root at sales ~]# cat /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/fastestmirror.conf

verbose=0
socket_timeout=3
hostfilepath=/var/cache/yum/timedhosts.txt

CentOS6 yum-plugin-fastestmirror spectacular failure
I'm trying to update from the cr repo, but yum-plugin-fastestmirror gets
it totally wrong; it selects a mirror in .hk that deliveres bytes per second,
and as far as I can tell, most or all of the timedhosts.txt entries are
in the Middle or Far East. What's going on? Nobody mirroring cr in other
parts of the world?

yum-plugin-security
Hi all,
I have difficulties to understand the output of yum-plugin-security.
I am on a X86_64 machine and when I query for security updates,
yum lists i686 packages, that I don't have installed.

yum-utils and yum-utils-plugins
All,
We are currently testing the yum-utils and yum-utils-plugins in the
dev.centos.org repository.
The two main plugins that this allows that I think would be great for
normal users are protectbase and fastestmirror.
See the announcement on the centos-devel list for details:

Thanks,
Johnny Hughes

yum issue with extras repo?
Hello All,
As you can see below I am having a problem checking for updates. This
happens repeatedly. I have to kill the process then rerun. I have
tried "yum clean all" but no joy - the process hangs again on "extras"
- see second listing below. Suggestions?

New update problems
yum apparently still can't cope with transparent proxies. I tried the
following and got the yum http behind proxy error:
Is there an ftp version of the mirrorlist or are those of us that have
to use transparent proxies stuck without this new feature?
