Writing new methods for `names<-`
Hi there, I'm working with an object whose internal data representation is very different from a data.frame (data is stored as a list of big.matrix objects from the bigmemory package) but to which I'd like to give users data.frame-like access. I've implemented names very easily as follows: setMethod("names", signature = "my.dataset", definition = function (x) {

compiling for the ipad
Hi I have been assigned the task of porting the ARM code generator to the ipad. I would like to know if there are any available documents about the instruction set/code format of the A64 chip of Apple. Also, if at all possible, documents that describe executable formats, etc are welcome. Any pointers? Thanks in advance.

Feasibility of cling/llvm interpreter for JIT replacement
Dear Sir/Madam Our company, 4Js software, has developed an SQL data base software that runs under different operating systems: Windows, Linux, Mac OS X. This software compiles each SQL statement into a C program that is compiled "on the fly" and executed by our JIT, Just In Time compiler. We wanted to port it to Apple's iOS, and spent a lot of time retargetting the JIT for

GPL Software
Hi On Mon Jul 27 11:29:44 CDT 2015 I posted a question here about the way llvm implements exceptions in Apple's OS X. Since then I have received ZERO answers. I have solved the problem myself by "disassembling" the messy source code available. I thank everyone for proving me (yet another time) that THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO THE QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE OF THE PROGRAM IS WITH YOU.

Macintosh binaries; was: Rcmdr and Macintosh
I am a Windows user and trying to make life easier for my Mac-using students. After investigating the Mac situation more, it appears that the key to easy use is having precompiled binaries. However the packages I am interested in (Rcmdr and its required package, car) do not have one. I do not have easy access to a Mac, so I have a plea to Macintosh users: could someone please create them if it is

Samba And Macintosh(netatalk)
Hello, Anyone out there running a production network supporting PC and Macintosh clients using samba and netatalk. we are currently using NT 4.0 with AppleTalk-IP software. Sharing the same files with the Macs and the pc is a must. I read someplace that samba 2.2.2 supports Appletalk. Is this true? Thanks, Joe

R-beta: R and Macintosh linux-pmac
Hello. I'm curious whether anyone has successfully installed R on a Power Mac running linux-pmac. I would feel much more at ease about installing linux on my Mac if I was aware that someone has been able to install R. Thanks! Xten SIP client for Macintosh OSX
[this post is just as much for the archives as it is for immediate consumption] Somehow I had completely missed the announcement that XTen Networks had released a SIP client for Mac OSX. Well, they have. It seems to mostly work, even! Very cool. The User interface leaves something to be desired, with it's menus trying to force me to use cell-phone sized windows (!!!!) to manipulate

Linux on an ancient Macintosh G5?
Has anyone experienced the conversion of the aluminum chassis Mac G5 to a Linux box? Curious in Pennsylvania. I need to obtain the power cable somewhere to try it. It is a 64-bit monster, so seems like it is worth trying if I can find the weird cable it needs. No luck to date regarding the cable. Thanks. The Bears will never win until number six leaves.
