5.5 & gspca
Irritating quirkyness: we have a bunch of videocams. To use, we use gspca.
Usually, on an upgrade, I just go into the gspca directory (which appears,
from their website, to have not been updated since '07), make clean, make,
make install.
Having gone up to 5.5, did the same. What's happening now is that it
works, delivers the mpgs... but dumps errors in the logs:

Smart1500lcdt will not connect with usbhid-ups
I talked to Tripp Lite Technical support.
Their policy is that they only support Fedora and SUSE. There is no one
there that could help with Ubuntu or NUT issues. The only answer they could
give me was to port the rpm files to Ubuntu and use them. This is way
beyond my experience level.
I will go to the local electronics store and buy a cheap USB 2 hub to see if
that works. I will post the

Smart1500lcdt will not connect with usbhid-ups KSTAR BM3150 1500VA "Line Interactive" High Frequency UPS
Barry,
I have had success with NUT on Debian and an EATON 5E2000IUSB-AU 5E
2000VA/1200W UPS With 3 x OUTLETS which I believe is good value.
I would believe the the EATON ?5E 1500VA/900W UPS With 3 x OUTLETS
would work just as well.
The 1500VA also uses the same batteries as the 2000VA so I would
believe it would run its raited load longer than 2000VA. My eight
drive RAID driver uses less that

syslog flooding
Greetings;
Nut pull & build from about two weeks ago, 2.4.3 I believe. Belkin UPS.
I have everything working but a proper shutdown of upsd when I reboot,
it hangs there and needs the hdwe reset button to reset it. That may be
related to my finding more than 1 K##upsd and more than one K##upsmon, in
/etc/rc5.d and which I have now nuked.
However, while its working well enough to monitor,

Doubt on using lattice
Hi all,
I suppose this is a very simple question, but as I've lost already a bit of
time with it, without being able to get what I wanted, I'm addressing the
question to the group in the hope someone can help me.
I pretend to plot the richness of herbaceous species (RichHN) as a function
of time since remnant isolation (Isol) conditioned to the area of the
remnant (fArea - this is a

Forward stepwise procedure w/ stepAIC
I'm attempting to select a model using stepAIC. I want to use a forward
selection procedure. I have specified a "scope" option, but must not be
understanding how this works. My results indicate that the procedure begins
and ends with the "full" model (i.e., all 17 independent variables)...not
what I expected. Could someone please point out what I'm not

Grub2 on Xen PV
Hi,
Let me start a new thread for this. I contacted the Grub people, and
they seem more interested in creating a native Xen port of Grub than
piggybacking the Mini-OS environment usin kexec as I tried. But they
need some documentation on the Xen "firmware" to assess the task at
least. What could be given to them apart from hvc_xen.c and
xen-blkfront.c in the Linux sources?

RE: newhidups and APC Back-UPS CS 350 (Thomas Jarosch)
Thomas,
The none (-22) message in your log is an errno from the
libusb_get_interrupt() call in HIDGetEvents() in libhid.c.
It indicates an invalid ioctl type.
In HIDGetEvents() there is a comment with that call:
/* needs libusb-0.1.8 to work => use ifdef and autoconf */
You may want to make sure your libusb is up-to-date.
Hope this helps, AG

--o-direct option
I would appreciate the addition of this option, which would cause files
opened by rsync to be opened using the O_DIRECT flag, on Linux, at
least. Let me explain my circumstance:
I use rsync to migration VMware disk images from one machine to another
while the VM is running. This works really well: you take a snapshot of
the VM, run rsync, take another snapshot, run it again, then finally
suspend
