RFC: Getting ProfileSummaryInfo and BlockFrequencyInfo from various types of passes under the new pass manager

Problem using BlockFrequencyInfo's getBlockProfileCount
Hey, I am trying to use the BlockFrequencyInfoWrapperPass to obtain hotness information in my LLVM pass. Attached is a minimal example of code which creates a SIGSEGV. The pass calls AU.addRequired<BlockFrequencyInfoWrapperPass>(); in getAnalysisUsage(..). The problem exists with changed and unchanged IR. The binary is instrumented like this: clang input.bc -fprofile-generate -o

RFC: Synthetic function entry counts
Functions in LLVM IR have a function_entry_count metadata that is attached in PGO compilation. By using the entry count together with the block frequency info, the compiler computes the profile count of call instructions based on which the hotness/coldness of callsites can be determined. Experiments have shown that using a higher threshold for hot callsites results in improved runtime performance

Filter optimization remarks by the hotness of the code region
This idea came up a few times recently [1][2] so I’d like start prototyping it. To summarize, we can emit optimization remarks using the -Rpass* options. These are currently emitted by optimizations like vectorization[3], unrolling, inlining and since last week loop distribution. For large programs however this can amount to a lot of diagnostics output to sift through. Filtering this by the

[LLVMdev] FYI: Planning to remove ProfileInfo and related passes from LLVM
Hi Chandler and Alastair, I have been using the Profile.pl and the related passes and optimizations for about 4 years now. With every new release lately, the support for the profile scripts and their framework seemed to be downgrading. Hence, I used my own tiny one line fixes to keep them working. I offered to send these small patches to keep these scripts working, to the LLVM dev so that others

[LLVMdev] fix for loop scale limiting in BFI
I've been trying to get rid of the loop scale limiting problem during BFI. Initially, this was saturating frequencies to the max side of the scale, so a double nested loop would get max frequencies in all the blocks (e.g., llvm/test/CodeGen/X86/lsr-i386.ll). This made the inner loop no hotter than the outer loop, so block placement would not bother aligning them. In convertFloatingToInteger()
